Beautiful place. Really good food. A bit pricey. Excellent waiters. Great desserts, especially their famous homemade donuts & their lemon & meringue pies.
The only downside is the noise level due to their high ceilings. & more lights shoud be added in the staircase. Another thing which I found really surprising is that now dogs are accepted. & I don't think that I approve because of the texture of the floors. They are beautiful old wooden varnished (& mostly unvarnished) planks & if a dog had an accident there, it would really be hard to clean it up properly because of the cracks between the planks. I naturally understand for guide dogs.
Had the family dinner menu & every dish was delicious! My favourites were the Brussels sprouts & the steak-both were cooked perfectly & full of flavour.
It's a fantastic menu for big gatherings, with something everyone can enjoy. Highly recommend for group dining!

Had a great dinner here while visiting from Massachusetts. Everyone seemed to really enjoy working there. The food was delicious- especially the chicken & the donuts. One of the best Boston Crème I've had, even though we're from the Boston area! Special shout out to our busser, Charles, who was extremely attentive to us, the rest of the patrons, & his coworkers. I noticed him always helping everyone on the team out, checking in on us & others, being quick & efficient, & having a kind & personable attitude. He was very interactive with my (shy) three year old, bringing out her first'bonjour' on our trip!
Extremely disappointed with the experience here, especially considering the'high-end' branding. Our group was forced onto a set menu for no apparent reason, which felt like a blatant move to impose a mandatory 18% gratuity.
The service was nowhere near that level. We were left waiting for 15+ minutes at a time for our waitress & eventually had to track down other staff members ourselves just to get basic attention. Paying a premium tip for service that was essentially non-existent is unacceptable. Good atmosphere , but the management & service logic are completely off the mark
Service is nice & pleasant but somewhat slow. I would have still given 5 stars but the food was so underwhelming. Chicken wasn't bad but quite dry & the sauce was ok at best. Buttery & low on flavor. The ribs are the reason I am commenting here. Worst i've ever had. Felt like cardboard. The brussel sprouts were absolutely amazing, I'll give them that... Everything else was bland & overall not great. Would be ok at half the price.
Staff is nice 👍
That being said, I had a few issues with my experience:
When crowded, due to the high ceiling, large open space, it becomes difficult to hear each other.
Furthermore, the menu is misleading, take for example the schnitzel option, not much description about what it is, but when served, there's a sunny-side up egg on top of it & a few smoked anchovies on top of it (I strongly dislike anchovies & would have never picked this item having known)
It is rare that I find menus like this but comon! Let's stop menus with hidden items. This is not a game, the menu should properly describe what you're getting, don't give it a silly name, just describe the ingredients please!

Amazing food! Sauces are flavourful & nicely done. The rotisserie chicken & donuts are a must. The menu cold sell the food better, first time was difficult to decide the order because I didn't know the dish ingredients.
Everything was great. Great food, great service ( with a smile) & great decor / atmosphere. My one minor gripe - it's a little noisy for easy table conversation.
We've been to McKiernan several times over the last few years. Every time was an amazing experience from start to finish. This time however was anything but, & unfortunately soured our outlook on this restaurant for good.
After making reservations we were seated without any wait & took some time looking at the menu. First, we ordered a Burrata as a starter. My partner ordered Ribs. The waitress informed us it's just a plate of ribs for $31, & if we wanted any kind of side it would be an additional $7 at the very least. Weird to separate it like that but okay. She decides on the fries to go with it. I then ordered the Nordic Shrimp Scampi & Linguini.
After a little while enjoying our cocktails our meals arrive, with no Burrata as a starter. I ask about it & turns out the waitress forgot to put it in.. alright we all make mistakes. I ask them to send it out anyway & we'll eat it with everything. Now on to the meals. The ribs were plentiful & tasty, but the fries overbaked & under-seasoned. Nordic Shrimp Scampi, I take one look at the shrimp & just laugh. They are literally the size of my fingernail. The shrimps themselves weren't too fresh either, as if bought in a freezer bag from IGA. The pasta was again under-seasoned & had a pool of oil at the bottom of the bowl. The Burrata that finally arrived was another letdown. They used to serve it with tomatoes & pesto, but now replaced that with a pretentious slice of pear & salad dressing that overpowers the taste entirely. At least the cheese itself was fresh.
Time for dessert. I order a maple donut & my partner orders a brownie. Server asks if she wants ice cream with the brownie & my partner agrees. Everything arrives & my donut tastes EXACTLY like Tim Hortons. No exaggeration. Every donut place has their own distinct flavour & I KNOW what a Tim Hortons maple donut tastes like as it's been my go-to donut there for years. Brownie was nice & rich with the ice cream to cut the sweetness. Very good. Until we saw on the bill the ice cream was an extra $3 for one small scoop! The waitress didn't tell us that part when she asked if we wanted it.
& that's how our night ended. Utterly disappointed with not only the food, but the way they're doing business. It was such a shock to us all the upselling they're doing now. I've never seen it to that extent at any other restaurant & it was so sad to see them do it here. & without even telling us at one point on top of that. We knew from experience this restaurant was more on the expensive side, which we're perfectly fine with, but why make the customer pay extra for sides that should be accompanying the plate from the get-go? Or for one small scoop of ice cream on the brownie when it should already be there? We used to love this restaurant. Now, that has changed entirely & we won't be going back.
