Review Summary

Mama Khan is widely regarded as a standout destination in Montreal for authentic, high-quality Pakistani cuisine, with many patrons praising the flavorful chicken karahi, chapli kebabs, and fresh, tandoor-made naan. While the vast majority of diners describe their experiences as delicious and reflective of traditional, homemade meals, a small number of visitors have noted occasional inconsistencies in food quality, service efficiency, and dining room cleanliness. Despite these isolated critiques, the restaurant is frequently lauded for its warm, welcoming hospitality and, perhaps most notably, its commendable commitment to community outreach through regular charitable meal programs, which has earned the establishment significant respect and loyalty from its customers.

My partner was hugging the toilet the next day from the CHANAS! Not related to spice at all. The chicken karahi was decent. Bear in mind, there are NO veggies in the vegetable Biryani. Just start calling it plain Biryani rice, because that's what it is.

Stopped by for lunch & was pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh, flavorful, & arrived quickly. I ordered the pakora, chicken Peshawari karahi with naan, & the tandoori biryani. Everything was delicious & full of authentic flavor. The portions were generous for the price, & the staff were friendly & attentive without being over the top. If you're looking for tasty Pakistani food, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Mama Khan, Montreal - A Memorable Taste of Authentic Pakistani Food
We visited Mama Khan in Montreal in 2023
& had an enjoyable experience, particularly because of the Chapli Kababs & lamb Karahi.
The Chapli Kababs were the highlight of our meal. We were told they were prepared using the owner's mother's recipe, & the homemade touch was clearly reflected in the taste. They were incredibly juicy, tender & packed with flavour, with a wonderful balance of spices. It had been a long time since we had eaten Chapli Kababs this good. They tasted authentic & were cooked perfectly without being dry or overly greasy. 4/5

The Lamb Karahi was also excellent. It was rich, aromatic & very flavourful, with tender, soft pieces of lamb. The spices & masala complemented the meat nicely, making it a comforting & satisfying dish. It paired really well with naan & was definitely worth ordering. 4/5

The Chicken Biryani was decent, but compared with the Chapli Kababs & Karahi, it did not stand out as much. It was okay in terms of flavour & portion, but it could have benefited from a stronger aroma & more depth in the masala. 3/5
The ambience was fairly simple & just okay, so the restaurant is more about enjoying the food than having a premium dining experience. Parking can also be difficult to find in the surrounding area, so it is better to allow some extra time.

Overall, Mama Khan offered us a satisfying Pakistani meal, with the juicy Chapli Kababs being the clear winner. I would definitely recommend visiting for the Chapli Kababs & Karahi, especially for anyone looking for authentic, homemade-style flavours in Montreal.

Came by for dinner after a day of traveling, the food was delicious. The Chicken Karahi was flavorful, & the Chana was some of the best I have eaten in a while. Two thumbs up!!!

The karahis are juste insane the gravy is perfectly Spiced & the naans are minute made in the tandoor. The server was comprehensive even with mant orders going on at the same time. Honestly mama khan is just grate ppl must be patient a bit bc on a rush time it can't be perfect at 200%. Btw I advice u guys to make a reservation before coming so that your spot is secured & its more easier for the service. Brunch of familles pulling up at the same time without reservation is not the smartest idea

We are two physicians went to this awful Pakistani restaurant. I am from India. She's from Pakistan. She was excited to take me to a Pakistani restaurant. I went with her to this awful restaurant'MAMA KHAN'. We were visiting Montreal. Originally we are from Boston, MA USA.
First & foremost, I'm not sure it is a Pakistani restaurant or it it is run by Afghani people.
The first order was Samosa. It was burnt outside cooked in high heat, so when we opened it one layer of Maida was raw inside. The potato inside was black & had a weird taste. We were hungry so we hate the outside part of the Dough, although burnt.
Second order was lassi- it smelled something awful. I drank one gulp & didn't touch it again.
The third order was chicken haleem but it appeared to me the chef forgot to put the chicken- it tasted like dal & wheat. Although it was not that bad. I ate it as if I'm eating dal.
The third order was lamb charsi Karahi. I could not eat even one piece. It was not cooked at all.
I packed the lamb as by now I had lost faith & didn't want to leave the entire untouched dish. I thought these guys may serve my left on table dish to someone else. We took the left over food & put it in a trash.
The Nan was not bad except one fourth of the naan was not properly cooked, so we discarded that portion & ate the rest of the naan with the'DAL HALEEM'🤣
Service- the kid was from Afghanistan & was decent. He was polite.

Samosa was not cooked, haleem was awful & lamb in lamb karahi was hard like rock. Never going back ever.
Edit after owner reply. Thanks alot for reminding me of Nan too. I forgot to mention that Nan was raw. Btw lassi was also awful smelling so bad that my husband almot had vomiting after taking a sip.
We packed away all the food because we couldn't eat & was thinking to give to some homeless but I throw away as I decided not to give that hard rock lamb to even any homeless.

Disappointing drop in quality today - standard was completely missed - I am a regular at Mama Khan, but today's experience was highly disappointing. We ordered the chappali kebab, which is usually a beautiful dark brown & packed with flavor. Today, it completely missed the mark.
The first plate they brought out was hard & burned. After we sent it back, the second attempt came out a dull, unappetizing brown (see photo). When I pointed this out to our server & showed them a picture of the chappali kebab we typically get here, I was simply told that they had run out of a specific spice, but that'it would improve next time.'
Frankly, if a critical ingredient is missing, management should just tell customers the dish is unavailable rather than serving an inferior version. The server really didn't seem to care. On a positive note, the chicken karahi was nice, but this is far from the food & service I typically expect from Mama Khan.

I ordered the Peshawari chicken & absolutely loved it-it was packed with flavor. Huge respect as well for the public service they do by feeding people in need every Friday, which is truly incredible. I'll definitely be back to try the Charsi chicken karahi next!❤?
