MMama Khan is bringing the taste of Khyber Pakhtun Khwa to a plate near you. Originally born and raised in a small village in the mountainous regions of Peshawar where she honed her cooking skills.
Let your taste buds be enticed by authenticPeshawari cooking, you will be taken on a culinary journey with flavor's that will leave you coming back for more. Mama emphasizes that in order to taste good food you need the perfect service; and her staff isn't short of making you feel at home.
Mama Khan delivers authentic halal Pakistani cuisine with rich Peshawari flavors, generous portions and the option to adjust spice levels, with standout dishes such as butter chicken, chicken karahi, chapli kebab, biryani, and fresh naan that many reviews describe as delicious and comforting. The service is repeatedly described as friendly and attentive in a welcoming, family like atmosphere, and the restaurant's community efforts through free meals for those in need are highlighted as a meaningful part of the experience. While dining in is praised for flavor and value, some reviews flag inconsistent delivery experiences and occasional long waits or mildly spiced options for those seeking higher heat, yet overall the place is seen as a reliable, beloved spot for authentic desi fare in the city.
I came to Mama Khan from Ottawa to especially share this meal with a friend on my birthday. This was my second time at the restaurant & the last time I came was a decent experience & the food was good.
Last night, my friend & I went to the restaurant. The food was still quite decent. Here is some constructive feedback for the restaurant.
The server needs to be trained on how to serve properly. We had to remind him of napkins, water, straw individually. He was polite but not very competent.
The restaurant had no cold drinks. When I asked the server for drink options, he said there was nothing except tap water. Later he shared that there were some options for soda. He gave us some lukewarm sodas with terribly straws that did not work.
The bathroom (toilet) was incredibly dirty. We went to wash our hands & came out feeling dirtier.
Overall, while the food was decent, our experience was not good. I am from Pakistan & understand dhaba style dining & can tolerate a lot more than my fellow Canadians who don't understand if the service is part of'authentic' experience or not.
As a proud Pakistani Canadian, I would love Mama Khan to invest in some basics for their restaurant. The food is good, experience needs to be so much better. I shared my feedback with the server as well because the things I pointed out can be fixed with some effort.
Bottled water, cold drinks, clean bathrooms, better straws (even from dollar store) - some minor changes that can make this a much better experience for all who want to support the business.
Mama Khan, located in Montreal's Plateau, offers authentic Halal Pakistani cuisine with rich, traditional Peshawari flavors.
Mama khan gave the generous portions & high quality of the food. The Chicken Karahi stands out for its rich, indulgent flavor, often noted to be prepared with butter (or makhni style), making it creamy & satisfying. Although dishes such as Biryani are rich in flavor, the spice level may be mild, so it's advisable to request extra spice for those who enjoy a spicier taste.
The must-try Kebabs & enormous, fresh chapati bread perfectly complement the hearty main courses. The service is friendly, Mama gave us a free chai, completing a warm, family-like dining experience.
Had an amazing experience at Mama Khan! The food was absolutely delicious especially the Butter Chicken Karahi, which was rich, flavorful, & perfectly spiced. The service was just as wonderful. Our waiter was super friendly, attentive, & made us feel so welcome. Loved the atmosphere & authentic taste. Can't wait to come back!
Absolutely delicious food! We ordered Chicken Karahi, Chapli Kebab, roti, paratha, & gol gappay , everything was bursting with authentic flavors & tasted just like homemade. The Chicken Karahi was rich & perfectly spiced, the Chapli Kebabs were juicy & flavorful, & the fresh rotis & parathas complemented the meal beautifully. The gol gappay were crisp & refreshing, adding the perfect touch to the experience. Overall, it felt like enjoying a hearty, home-cooked meal ,we'll definitely be coming back!

Criminally Underrated! A 500/100 Experience at Mama Khan.
For anyone searching for an authentic, mind-blowing culinary experience, look no further than Mama Khan. This place is the very definition of underrated. I went today, & I am still thinking about the food. To say it was excellent would be a massive understatement. The flavors were a masterpiece. On a scale of 1 to 100, I would rate the food a 500 out of 100. Do not miss out on this hidden gem. It deserves to be at the top of every food lover's list.
Mama Khan Restaurant in Montreal offers a flavorful taste of Pakistani cuisine. The chicken karahi was absolutely amazing-rich, tender, & full of authentic spices. The chicken biryani was delicious with perfectly cooked rice & well-seasoned chicken. A special highlight was the fresh garlic naan, soft & fragrant, the perfect complement to the meal. Highly recommended for anyone craving traditional & satisfying Pakistani food in the city.
Amazing authentic restaurants, very warm & compassionate owners.
It's really hard to beat the food here, one of the best in my opinion
Mashallah tabarakallah

After a lot of searching & asking local friends for recommendations I settled on Mama Khan for Pakistani food that my parents were craving.
We arrived early for lunch & were immediately greeted, & seated. Tanbir/Tanvir was a great host front of house & provided background on the restaurant & recommendations for my parents for authentic Peahawari style taste.
My mom continues to rave that it was the best Pakistani food she had on our weeklong trip across Canada.
props to Tanvir & the chef on taste, hospitality & presentation. Definitely worth visiting again with friends.
An absolute must try restaurant in town. authentic Peshawari food. The story, the service & the reason for the existance of this restaurant (social worker servicing the needy) are all great reasons as to why one must visit this restaurant. Without a doubt a feel good restaurant. Most likely to recommend & pay them a visit again. The staff is top of the line! We (Grillades Amira) wish we had the service & execution of this restaurant. Big shout out to the front & back staff.
I was visiting Montreal from New York & saw this spot while walking around, & I'm happy I walked in. Authentic, delicious & an amazing overall experience at Mama Khan. Very friendly staff, they answered all the questions I had for them & they definitely made the food with love! My taste buds were dancing during the whole time I was in Canada. Chapli kebabs were my favorite! This place is a must have if you are in the area! Make sure to stop by!
Visiting town with some friends & we had a craving for some desi food. We came upon Mama Khan & we're glad we did- super comforting atmosphere, great food, & even better service. We found the food to be super authentic, & everything was just right & reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!

I was looking for halal places in google & Mama Khan came up. I wish I went here earlier. They were about to close but still accommodated us & showed us such love & care. Abdur & Tanvir both took great care of us & the food was a cherry on top. Very delicious & authentic Peshawari! The decor in the restaurant gave a very traditional, at-home feel. Try the chapli kebab & lamb for sure! They also give food to homeless people almost every day. Highly highly recommended!
A unique mix of cuisine from the North West Frontier Province & altruism. Inspired by a CBC radio feature on Mama Khan's philanthropic efforts during Ramadan, (&, year-round, as we subsequently learned) we sought out this cosy establishment located in le Plateau. The culinary experience exceeded our expectations - the dishes were reminiscent of homemade delights, evoking memories of my own mother's cooking. The attentive service & generous portions, advertised for two, but sufficient for four, only added to the charm. Our long-standing quest for restaurants serving authentic, home-style Pathan meals found corporeal & spiritual delight at Mama Khan's.
This is place is an absolute must , as a Pakistani man this place taste as authentic as it gets . Like others have said the chupli kabobs are absolute must . Chicken kari is best in the city hands down . & when I came they ran out of samosa chat but if they ran out it must be off the charts . The service was remarkable super friendly & fast .
Updating based on restaurants response*: *The chapli kebab's were to be honest not bad, what I meant was that we have had better ones in Mississauga as well as in Calgary, that resonated more with the authentic chapli style but that said your chapli kababs were good. The Bryani I still do not know, my wife is from Sindh & I have spent reasonable portion of my life in Sindh, including Hyderabad, Karachi & interior Sindh parts, but have never come across a tandoori bryani of this type. I strongly feel it should be called rice with BBQ'd chicken but I will respect what you have in there"*. The service & professionalism were outstanding. We ordered the tandoori biryani, chapli kebab, & Peshawari lamb karahi. The karahi was absolutely incredible, hands down, one of the best I've ever had. However, the biryani was disappointing. It felt more like blended rice with BBQ'd chicken than anything resembling traditional tandoori biryani. This dish would be better off renamed, as it doesn't resemble the true tandoori biryani you'd expect, whether in KPK or anywhere else. The chapli kababs were decent but nothing special. That said, the staff was incredibly friendly & made the experience more enjoyable.
