February 27/25 = We were a group of 18 people who reserved for 12:30 pm & were very much looking forward to trying this new establishment. Creperies are somewhat difficult to come by in the suburbs. Regretfully, the chef was 45 minutes late & they seemed short staffed as making crepes to order on one grill for 18 people was quite time consuming. My mother's crepe had cheese that wasn't completely melted & the crepes could have done with a little more browning. The menu was limited as not everything that appeared on the menu was available. The dessert crepes were delicious though! Coffee was good, although the Blue Mountain Haitian has a somewhat lighter taste. The chocolatier, Mr. Ralph Leroy, did give an somewhat rushed explanation of his products. Would have liked to try his chocolate truffles but none were available; not even to purchase.
The atmosphere was nice & the background music just loud enough to enjoy our lively discussions. Regretfully, the washrooms could be cleaner with enough tissue paper for both stalls. Regretfully, feel that Makaya Chocolat & Bistro were not prepared for a group of 18 even though we had reservations. It's too bad as was planning on having my wedding anniversary there next month but the experience was lacking.

Every week, I drive over 30 minutes just to get their Creole Cajou Chicken with rice & beans-& let me tell you, as someone from the Caribbean, this is the best chicken I've had in a very long time.
The atmosphere is full of life & warmth, & the owner makes you feel like part of the family from the moment you walk in. You're greeted with smiles, laughter, & that unique Caribbean hospitality that's hard to find elsewhere.
Whether it's a regular visit or one of their themed weekend brunches, there's always something magical in the air. Makaya isn't just a restaurant-it's a whole vibe.
I had the pleasure of dining at THIS Haitian Bistro, & it was truly an unforgettable experience. The spices in the dishes warmed the soul, & the chef was just as warm & accommodating, making us feel right at home. We started with the bread soup, which was an explosion of flavor-rich, comforting, & full of depth. It was more than just a dish; it was an experience. Even the PURE chocolate dessert exceeded expectations, adding a perfect touch to our meal. The vibe inside was absolutely ideal for a date, with a cozy & welcoming atmosphere that made the evening feel even more special. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy flavors in a charming setting!

Jai adoré l'atmosphere l'-accueil de Dora dans ce bistro Makaya chocolat, mon expérience culinaire fut surpassé par les differentes epices saveur , elle nous a . Meme offert 2'morceaux de gateaux , merci , la soupe etais excelente ainsi que le maïs bonne femme wow un orgarsme culinaire !! Je vais revenir & je vais faire decouvrir ce petit trésorcaché
A gem of a cozy café bistro - comfy couch, cute book corner, a small fireplace...& chocolate! Tchaka soup was warm & delicious. The crèpe au chocolat was divine. I'll be back to try other items on the menu. Merci!
Beautiful little bistro with limited but flavorful dishes ( great Haitian potage). Nice selection of french crepes & of course chocolate desserts( didn't try). Delicious pisco sour! Lovely attentive service & wonderful, cozy decor looking out to lake. Will definitely return! Should add daily menu & offer a salad option or two.
Ma visite au Bistro Makaya fut plus qu'un simple dîner, ce fut une immersion dans l'essence même d'Haïti, rappelant la splendeur du Pic de Makaya, cette montagne emblématique située en Haïti & point culminant du massif de la Hotte à 2 347 mètres d'altitude. Dès l'accueil, le propriétaire a su créer une atmosphère chaleureuse & accueillante qui nous a transportés. En cuisine, le chef a véritablement capturé l'esprit du territoire haïtien, nous offrant des plats aux saveurs majestueuses qui sont un hommage à la diversité & à la richesse de la gastronomie locale. Chaque bouchée était comme une ascension gustative au sommet du Pic de Makaya, révélant des horizons de saveurs inexplorés. L'ambiance était magnifiée par la sélection musicale d'un DJ talentueux, qui, à travers des rythmes haïtiens, a ajouté une dimension vibrante & profondément authentique à notre soirée. Le Bistro Makaya n'est pas seulement un lieu de restauration; c'est une célébration de la culture, de l'histoire & du patrimoine haïtien, offrant une expérience culinaire qui est aussi riche & variée que le paysage du Pic de Makaya lui-même. Un grand bravo à toute l'équipe pour avoir élevé l'art culinaire haïtien à de tels sommets ! Mon seul hic est que aucun serveur n est venu me demander si je voulais boire ou prendre quelque chose. Le propriétaire m a gracieusement offert un apéritif vue l'attente.
Makaya is an incredible Haitian bistro with delicious chocolate, desserts, food, & drinks. The atmosphere is warm & cozy, with a beautiful view over the old part of Canal Lachine. We ordered hot chocolate, frappés, savoury chicken & cheese crêpes, & bought some desserts to-go - everything was amazing! While we were there during the evening, & happened to catch a beautiful view of the sunset over the water, it also makes for a great spot for a coffee break &/or brunch.
