Review Summary

Makaya Chocolat & Bistro is a charming, scenic destination along the water, celebrated for its authentic Caribbean cuisine and exceptional hot chocolate crafted from high-quality cocoa. Many visitors appreciate the warm, personalized hospitality provided by the owner and the friendly team, noting that the atmosphere is cozy and perfect for relaxed gatherings. While the dining experience is frequently described as a flavorful, home-cooked delight with standout dishes like Creole chicken and various gourmet crepes, feedback suggests that the service pace can occasionally be leisurely due to the made-from-scratch preparations and current staffing levels. Overall, the bistro is widely regarded as a unique, inviting space that offers a memorable and heartfelt culinary experience for locals and visitors alike.

This is a lovely Caribbean place located on the idyllic Lachine canal. The food was so tasty. We had the Caribbean sheppards pie & the pulled pork griot sandwich. It was well seasoned & the prices are so affordable. Hot dishes are $16-$18.
The owner & his wife ate so hospitable, make you feel so welcome. He whipped up a delicious Caribbean rum punch with fresh guava & passion fruit juice & Babacourt rum
They also have an extensive hot chocolate & crepes menu. The chocolate desserts & drinks are made with real cocoa sourced from Haiti. Give thus place a try. Finally a decent recent that wont break your budget

Restaurant haïtien paisible, service excellent, convivial, avec une belle vue sur le canal. Le chef met l'ambiance ! De très bons plats ainsi que des desserts exquis. Une superbe découverte 🤩

I struggle to understand charging an espresso $7. My wife liked her chocolate cake. Glass of wine was pricey as well but I can tolerate that more than the price of the coffee.

J'aurais tellement aimé que ce bistro soit plus accessible par bus/metro! Les boissons sont incroyables, la nourriture est vraiment bonne, c'est une belle perle de Lachine

February 27/25 = We were a group of 18 people who reserved for 12:30 pm & were very much looking forward to trying this new establishment. Creperies are somewhat difficult to come by in the suburbs. Regretfully, the chef was 45 minutes late & they seemed short staffed as making crepes to order on one grill for 18 people was quite time consuming. My mother's crepe had cheese that wasn't completely melted & the crepes could have done with a little more browning. The menu was limited as not everything that appeared on the menu was available. The dessert crepes were delicious though! Coffee was good, although the Blue Mountain Haitian has a somewhat lighter taste. The chocolatier, Mr. Ralph Leroy, did give an somewhat rushed explanation of his products. Would have liked to try his chocolate truffles but none were available; not even to purchase.
The atmosphere was nice & the background music just loud enough to enjoy our lively discussions. Regretfully, the washrooms could be cleaner with enough tissue paper for both stalls. Regretfully, feel that Makaya Chocolat & Bistro were not prepared for a group of 18 even though we had reservations. It's too bad as was planning on having my wedding anniversary there next month but the experience was lacking.

Came in from frosty cold romantic walk along the scenic frozen landscape of the majestic Lachine with my beautiful partner. & since we were parked outside Makaya we decided to go inside & indulge in some hot chocolate. The ambience, service, decor, & chocolate beverages were spectacular. 😋 highly recommend!!!
