A project from the team behind the wood-fired Pizzeria Magpie, Magpie Magique deviates from that concept entirely with a speakeasy-style red light entrance that leads into a chic spot. A pseudo-hidden bar, it specializes in classic cocktails complemented by a menu of sharing plates of mezze, skewered and grilled seafood, and pizzas from the front. Offering an anonymous, sophisticated, and unique experience that’ll include live music and other performances. It goes without saying that you can grab a bite late at night here, along with a good stiff drink.
Overall, Magpie Magique comes across as a cozy intimate speakeasy with live jazz and a strong cocktail program, where the atmosphere and friendly service stand out for many guests even as some experiences note scattered service, long waits, or seating limitations that can affect the show. The food receives mixed signals, with several diners praising a well balanced tasting menu and fresh flavors, including dishes like salmon tartare and beef cheeks, while a few find portions or the foie gras offering underwhelming for the price. The experience is often enhanced by personal touches from the kitchen and a lively bar scene, and many reviewers appreciate the comforting décor and the option to relax on couches, though some nights the crowding near the stage and occasional delays can detract. In short, Magpie Magique is seen as a memorable spot for dates or nights out with friends, delivering excellent cocktails, a nice ambiance, and moments of standout dining, with room for improvement in consistency of service and seating on busy evenings.
Food: The food was amazing, I tried the tasting menu, everything tasted fresh & well balanced. I had the aged black angus striploin, it was very well seasoned & cooked perfectly. The cooks clearly have a ton of exerience.
Service: The waiters/waitresses were super polite & welcoming, they knew the menu very well & everything we ordered arrived within a very good timeframe considering that the place was almost running at full capacity.
Atmosphere: I went there on a friday, there was a live band playing jazz/blues. The music was neither too loud nor too quiet, it was simply perfect, you could have a conversation with the person next to you without having to yell for them to hear you. It definitely added a relaxing ambiance to the evening.
Excellent service & food, plus a great selection of mocktails! The atmosphere was great. The music was at just the right volume. The decor was unique & quite relaxing--it felt like we were being wrapped up in soft red silk sheets. Our servers were extremely attentive & friendly. Did I mention how great the food was? We will definitely be going back!
Absolutely had such a lovely experience here from the service, to the ambiance & to the food & drinks. This was my first time ever visiting Montreal & my mom & I were looking for a cool spot for some late night drinks & chats & this was perfect. This is a Speakeasy Bar with nice dim-lighting, burlesque-style decor, soft jazz music in the background that isn't too loud where you can actually hear each other speak! I ordered the Late Night Encounter drink which was like a Espresso Martini but, it wasn't too strong or bitter at all - it was very smooth with the perfect amount of sweetness. Then, I ordered their No Bias drink which was refreshing & very tasty. My mom & I got the Mirza Ghassemi & Noix Roties - both perfect little snacks to enjoy with your drinks & then we got their Burrata pizza to share which was SO DELICIOUS. I definitely will come back when I return to Montreal again!
The intimate, laid-back atmosphere, burlesque-style décor, soft jazzy music, & excellent, reasonably priced cocktail menu make it the perfect setting for a date night. We ordered several cocktails & a mocktail, all of which were delicious & expertly prepared. They also serve a variety of wines & beers. If you happen to feel a little peckish, they've got you covered with a food menu to enjoy with their extensive list of beverages. Classic bar munchies like olives, nuts, & popcorn, as well as some incredible dips of either goat cheese, eggplant, or hummus. We especially enjoyed the goat cheese dip. They also offer larger dishes like pizza, a sandwich, & beef tartare. With a great central location & wonderful service, we will most definitely return on an actual date to enjoy this lovely speakeasy.

Nice cocktails in a cool atmosphere. In this case, Magpie probably refers to the disorganized mishmash of unrelated decorations spread over the place, as the word could be defined as "a person who collects things, especially things of little use or value". But it's a fun speakeasy experience, with a great vibe & a cool secret entrance on Gilford. Unfortunately, they seemed understaffed that night & so the service was slow, but friendly. The Gins'N Roses cocktail was the nicest I've tried there so far. Apparently, at happy hour the cocktails are only $10, the pizza is $17, & they sometimes have live music.
Really nice place, nice music. They can make you incredible drinks on demand. You should as for Christmas in Vegas one!! We had a little fun to find the hidden door in the backstreet even though they have a door on Saint-Denis
Absolutely great place with great staff. Friendly, atmospheric, good music, good drinks, what can you ask for more? We had a blast & I only wish we had more time to come back! The red decoration gives a classy vibe & there is ample space to feel comfortable. ❤️

Had a great night at this speakeasy! The food is great for sharing & so delicious. The vibe & music made me feel like I was not in Montreal. I can't wait to go back!
