In fall 2007, the chefs of Joe Beef restaurant opened a new restaurant, the Liverpool House, located next to the Atwater market and numerous antiquarians of Notre-Dame St. With a menu that changes every week, the Liverpool House offers seasonal dishes inspired by ingredients found in the market.
Overall, Liverpool House is described as a refined yet welcoming Montreal standout where signature dishes like beef tartare, lobster pasta and steak frites regularly impress, and the service is for the most part attentive, knowledgeable, and warm with an atmosphere that ranges from casual to upscale. The vibe is repeatedly praised as cozy, lively, and unpretentious, with a strong selection of oysters and cocktails adding to the experience. While many reviews rave about high quality ingredients and thoughtful recommendations, some note occasional inconsistency in mains, saltier dishes, and moments of crowding or rushed service when the room is busy, and a sense that price can be steep. Reservations are often advised, and the terrace or bar seating is highlighted as a plus, making it a memorable destination for both special occasions and casual nights out in Montreal.
This place makes you feel like you're floating among the stars the moment you walk in. Casual yet beautifully upscale, with an atmosphere that somehow feels both relaxed & extraordinary.
Even the bar seats receive full restaurant service - not just service from behind the bar - & every single person on staff clearly knows their craft. Truly top-notch hospitality from start to finish.
The oysters were absolute perfection. The Arctic Char was exquisite, & the special mac & cheese with beef on the bone was completely otherworldly.
& then dessert arrived… maple profiteroles with vanilla-to-die-for ice cream & hot fudge sauce. Pure divine indulgence. Scrummy beyond words.
Another unforgettable dining experience at Liverpool House. 💯✨

Now this is what I'm talking about - impeccable service, incredibly good tasting food, & worth every penny. The lobster spaghetti tasted like the literal ocean & it made you want to keep digging in. The fish was mastefully cooked. Beef tartare was fantastic. Highly highly recommend going here for a fancy dinne
Took the kids here on a Tuesday evening & honestly wasn't sure how it would go, but the staff were so warm & made us feel completely at ease right from the door. My daughter couldn't stop talking about the roasted chicken - she's eight & picky about everything, so that says a lot. The vibe is lively without being overwhelming, which is exactly what you need when you've got little ones who get restless. We'll definitely be back next time we're looking for somewhere the whole family can actually enjoy together.

Fantastic cocktails, extensive wine list, & market fresh seafood & meat options. Half the menu isn't on the menu & the specials were delicious. Had an earlier seating at 6:45 & there was a mild bustle about the restaurant but by the time we were finishing our meal, the volume level was way higher from tables full of friends enjoying top tier fine dining, all of them having an audibly great time. Service was excellent. Mike made us feel welcome & cared for & it wasn't just a waiter's veneer. It was actually genuine. Booking my next reservation now.
Absolutely 10/10! Montreal classic that I had been meaning to try forever. Now that I finally tried it I can say it is absolutely worth the hype. The food was insanely good (I'll be dreaming about the clam chowder clams which was their special for the weekend) & the steak frite was excellent. Service was TOP (Sasha) our waiter was kind, helpful & made us feel so welcome. The rest of the staff (Ben & CiCi) were also amazing & make the whole experience that much better. Shoutout to Ben for singing happy birthday to me it was iconic hahaha. Safe to say this has become one of my top spots, I will 100% be back.

A return visit, to see if things are as good as it used to be. The food is what one might expect of this reputable business: solid diverse offerings, seafood incredibly fresh, but one highlight at this resto is the fantastic service. This might be secondary to some, but we all know how bad service can ruin a good food night. Kudos to the staff for their detailed explanations, attention to details, prompt cleaning & pleasant chatty vibes.
My wife & I had a celebratory dinner at Liverpool House & it exceeded expectations.
The atmosphere is warm & comfortable with low lighting-almost like being at a cozy family cottage. The room was lively, with a younger crowd & great energy.
The food & service were both exceptional. Our server, Cecilia, was charming, professional, & very knowledgeable. What really stood out was how seamlessly the entire team worked together-multiple servers checked in, & it felt like there was constant communication between the floor & the kitchen. You could tell they were paying close attention to what guests were enjoying (or not), which was impressive to watch.
Highlights from the meal:
• Oysters to start
• A special clam dish with clam chowder baked on top-unbelievably good
• Raw scallop-subtle & interesting
• A seafood starter that didn't look like much but tasted like the best kind of homemade cooking
• Ribeye with Alexander sauce-rich, buttery, & outstanding (the chicken stock base was a great touch)
The wine & cocktails were also excellent.
Highly recommend Liverpool House-& if you can, ask for Cecilia. This is a serious restaurant
Food was amazing Our server was very nice. The table next to us was friends with the manager & acting belligerently. They were vaping in the restaurant during our meal & one of them hit me in the head with their elbow. The server felt bad & gave us a free dessert….I guess that's what you get for taking an elbow to the head. Ownership needs to find a new manager. Letting guests behave that rudely at the expense of others is unacceptable.
I had an exceptionally wonderful experience at the Liverpool House recently. I had dined there several years ago on a business trip & really enjoyed it, so this time around, my mom was with me & I decided to take her here. While the menu has evolved since I came, it retained what made it special - high quality ingredients, very flavourful dishes, none of which felt heavy or too complicated.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is also something special - while it is definitely high-end in terms of the food, the setting feels incredibly welcoming, comfortable & unpretentious. My mom doesn't like fussy places & she felt right at home here. Our server - Cecelia (I hope I got her name right) was incredibly attentive, warm & kind.
