In fall 2007, the chefs of Joe Beef restaurant opened a new restaurant, the Liverpool House, located next to the Atwater market and numerous antiquarians of Notre-Dame St. With a menu that changes every week, the Liverpool House offers seasonal dishes inspired by ingredients found in the market.
Overall, reviews portray Liverpool House as a refined yet welcoming spot with a warm, intimate atmosphere and a strong focus on bold flavors and careful technique. Diners repeatedly praise standout dishes such as beef tartare, steak frites, lobster pasta, and arctic char, along with reliable starters and desserts that elevate the meal. The beverage program is frequently highlighted, especially the wine and local beer options, which pair well with the menu. Service is described as attentive and knowledgeable on many visits, though several experiences note inconsistencies and occasional delays during busy periods. The setting is often lively but comfortable, with a terrace option and a vibe that can feel bustling or romantic depending on the night. Reservations are commonly advised, as tables fill up and some guests report longer waits or portions that fail to meet expectations for the price. If the kitchen or service falls short, pricing can feel steep, while many guests feel the quality justifies the cost on other nights. Although experiences vary, Liverpool House remains a top Montreal destination for a memorable, sophisticated dining experience.
We sat at the bar & it was excellent. We had the steak frites & it was so good! The chocolate cake & the orange cake are also excellent. Our waiter for amazing, thank you! We didn't catch his name, sorry. 100% recommend! I'm not a huge seafood fan so we enjoyed the steaks.
Highly recommend the oysters & the steak & fries. The clams were bland. The decor & ambience was very quaint, & the staff was a vibe. We had a great time. I would recommend getting reservations ahead of time. We did two weeks prior because Joe Beef was all booked.
The halibut was really tasty. I recommend ordering the sourdough bread in the appetizer to enjoy the sauce of the halibut. The hanger steak was a bit salty for us. My main issue was that for the seafood selection you have to ask the waiter as this is not on the menu. The waiter will repeat a long list of available seafood, which is hard to catch the details. I understand that this may change daily, but they can just make a printout based on their daily options so that customers can clearly see the availability with prices.

Best restaurant I visited in Montreal! The ny strip was huge & tasted amazing the sauce is something delicious! The lobster pasta is sooooo yummy! Nice people very good service! I would def visit this spot every time in Montreal
What can I say other than the fact this is my favourite restaurant & my wife & I look forward to returning here throughout the year!
From the first moment you step into the restaurant, you are greeted with warmth by the host / hostess, brought to your table & then offered a cocktail / drink to start off the night.
We love the at home, rustic vibe of the restaurant combined with the multi cultural & English & French dynamic that you get at this restaurant. The team seamless serves you in English & French & we love it as we love both languages.
The first time we went here was for my birthday & Cecile was our waitress & she surpassed our expectations. She recommended what she viewed as great'birthday dishes' & hit the mark! Her wine pairing suggestion for oysters / seafood (chenin blanc) & main course (Chianti Classico) were on point, in line with our taste & reasonably priced.
From start to finish, our experience was absolute perfection! The rest of the staff ensured we always had enough water & anything else that we needed. They also kept the tables clean & well organized throughout the night.
Last night we went back for a second time & had very good service from Sarah. She was attentive to our needs & patient when we were figuring out which wines we wanted to pair with our meal. Sarah was more reserved at first but then warmed up as the night went on.
Although she did forget us temporarily at the end of our meal when we were moved to the terrasse (after our time at the table ran out), she more than made up for it with a sincere apology & by comping us for our first glass of white & dessert.
Our meal was delicious with fresh oysters, arctic char, the foie gras breakfast sandwich (i will get this again… & again), New York strip with an incredible marinade & sauce (perfectly cooked), the lobster spaghetti (was good but not my favourite dish of the two nights), all of the desserts on the menu, delicious cocktails & wine.
Thank you to the Liverpool house team for two amazing nights. We will be back!
Came here for a bachelor party. We did the $175/person dining menu. Matt, who took care of us was great, very social, & made sure the 3hr dinner ran smoothly. The highlight was maybe the salad. Everything was amazing, but the salad left a lasting impression. Will def be back.
We've been there many times in the past but this was our first time sitting at the bar, &, like always, the food, atmosphere & service were wonderful, but they really should replace the stools at the bar with high backed chairs as it is really not very comfortable sitting on them for more than an hour.
I wish I was able to get a table at Joe Beef but thankfully they had the Lobster Spaghetti at Liverpool House as well. It was the main thing I wanted to try. Service was great! Food amazing! I'll have to make sure to get a reservation for the sister restaurant next time but don't skip Liverpool House whether you're going next door or not.
