Large soy lattes with great tasting espresso! YES! & a place where you can work on your computer & not feel like you are taking seats from anybody. Really wonderful to have large comfortable tables, actually two rooms full. This is a great place I would probably come here every day if I lived here to drink my morning latte & work on my book. 5-star atmosphere not because it's such a beautiful place but for what it is, it is perfect.
This is a very charming & spacious cafe with space to study. Great service as well. The only con is that the iced drinks (notably the iced lattes) are always extremely watered down even if asked for less ice. I'm not sure if it's the way its prepared or if they put ice in the cup immediately before the espresso or milk but as soon as I get my iced drink, it doesn't even taste like coffee. If this is due to the organic espresso taste they use, then I guess that would make sense. It's just for a $8 latte, you would expect perfection (especially since 90% of their demographic are students).
you can't really go wrong when they use a modbar espresso machine (unless the barista is horribly bad, which is ofc not the case here). however, I am not into this plant based idea... if only they could use actual milk to make an actual cortado with such a great espresso machine... alas, such is life, you can't have everything near McGill: either a mediocre drink somewhere else, or an espresso here at leaves house (just a simple but great espresso, forget about the milk part...). pick your poison! of course, this would be a dream place for those to would have preferred oat based drinks at the first place (tbh they are not bad at all, but something about whole milk with a nice espresso is simply irreplaceable). ps: I know, I am not the most eco-friendly person in this world.
The tall buildings around could be a turn off but don't pass your way, the relaxed music & plants inside make a perfect island. Original lattes (the lavender wasn't too sweet, great espresso), & terrific melting gluten-free almond & matcha cookies!
