The service was excellent-knowledgeable, attentive, & genuinely helpful throughout the evening.?Our party of four (two adults & two well-travelled teenagers) chose the tasting menu. We asked about wine pairings, & while there wasn't a formal pairing available, the staff suggested wines course by course. We appreciated the flexibility & enjoyed going that route.?The food, however, was where the experience fell short. It was good, but that was all it was: good. Aside from an outstanding pistachio gelato & the mezcal cocktail, nothing stood out as memorable or exceptional. At this level, & at this price point,'good' simply isn't enough.?Our total bill, including tip, came to $902. Having dined at many Michelin-starred restaurants around the world for the same-or even less-we found Le Violon to represent poor value. Given that it's Michelin Recommended rather than starred, our expectations were different, but we still expected a more compelling culinary experience. Compared with several other outstanding restaurants in Montreal & across Canada, this meal didn't justify the cost.?Having eaten at many of Canada's top restaurants, I'm genuinely surprised Le Violon made the list. Perhaps our expectations were too high-but for nearly $1,000, we expected to leave talking about more than just the gelato.
Very high end tasting menu/chef's choice for $125 per person. Amazing quality, creative, this is one of the best restaurants in the city today (Nov 2024, & updated June 2026). Highly recommended. Small cozy room but still upscale without being pretentious. 3 services per night, & you have to pay a $50 deposit per person, but definitely worth it. Service was excellent for our group of 5. To me it ranks up there with Vin Mon Lapin, my colleague thinks it's better. Decide for yourself. Highly recommended, great experience.
So we were excited to try this place because it got 8th on the list of Canada's top 100 restaurants.
So we were expecting the meal to be great.
We've done many tasting menus & so we thought that would be the best way to experience but the chef has to offer.
The first dishes were a bread dish with butter & lobster with asparagus & a bechamel sauce. They were good but nothing special.
The pate & the fish with harissa sauce were both not that great. The pate for some reason was paired with radish so you had a very very silky smooth Pate which was delicious, but the radish would add a watery texture to it. Not very appealing.
Then we got the mains. The salad was fresh with a light dressing. Once again, nothing super special here. & the pork was mixed with a bechamel & a jus. That was good , & finally the fish which didn't really stand out either.
For a restaurant getting the top 100 , you would expect something that would stand out & be different.
The desserts though were outstanding , that pastry / dessert chef deserves an award by herself 🤣. Those were epic.
Also our server was amazing & great as well.
Overall though not a place I'd recommend to spend $450. Def had better experiences at that price point.
Very unique food & great service. Everything I had was delicious.
Only con was that it felt very tight when it comes to space. Otherwise I recommend.
From start to finish everything was excellent. We asked Dylan to give us the Le Violon experience in selecting the appetizers & entrees. He did not miss, it was spot on with the lobster & persimmons appetizers with the fleur des monts cheese. Followed by the beef flank & trout entrees…not great but stupendous. Thank you Dylan. Thank you Andrew for the warm greeting & chat as we left. Priceless! Highly, highly recommended….see you in December!
