vin(46) wine(44) dishes(23) dessert(22) selection(16) plates(15) recommend(14) vibe(14) cake(14) ham(13) carrot(12) bar(11)The physical restaurant is cozy & not overly packed. The outdoor terrace is very casual with nice gas fire heaters & a solid roof that covers it, but our table & several others had benches with no back support (ouch). A decent view of the neighboring track/sports field. Reserved & indicated it was for a special occasion. Was no mention of it/acknowledgement from the staff which was too bad as we were celebrating a friend's engagement. Waitress was not overly friendly & after we mentioned it was our first time dining there, did not really guide us through the standard menu or indicate if we were ordering too much or not enough. We ordered multiple dishes which she mentioned would come in courses but the choice of what was served & when was up to the staff. It came out in random orders & often one plate at a time which kept the table looking a bit empty/sad as it's geared for family-style servings of small portions. Most of our dishes were extremely tasty & I'd recommend them (especially the steak & calamari skewers). The carbonara bread & rhubarb tart were extremely boring & lacking flavor. The caramel sauce with the ice cream sandwich was amazing but the sandwich on its own was bland. All in all it was an OK experience but it didn't leave me wanting more. Maybe we just caught them on an off night but we were definitely hoping for more.
Vegetables were treated perfectly. The white asparagus was divine. Cabbage w chili crisp. Ham & cheese amazing; ham was smooth & perfectly flavored. Sausage had a terrific crispy casing & wasn't fatty. Bread was soft & airy inside, but still with a crunchy outer layer
Staff was extremely friendly.
Definitely coming back.
Service courtois. Menu raffiné & prix raisonnables.
What a fabulous restaurant!! This was our fifth time going & are blown away time & time again. Gabriel is always there to welcome us & sets a warm tone. The service was exceptional (thanks Grace!) & the support team was always present (high five to Thomas). The wine selection is extensive, with a great selection of natural &'less-natural' wines, & the cocktails were once again on point. The barman Bryan made one of the best dirty martinis!
What set this visit apart was that we had a guest that had allergies to Gluten, Dairy, Egg, & Citrus. The entire crew went above & beyond to understand our guest's needs & accommodate. We were able to have multiple share plates & entrees that made the dinner experience flow seamlessly. What's more is that Grace offered us a Vegan dessert option from their sister restaurant, Liverpool House, that checked all of the allergy-free boxes. The kitchen staff walked down the street, picked it up, & served it to us..this was the first dessert that our guest had been able to eat at a restaurant in years!! The team at Vin Papillon once again went above & beyond what was expected. Great job!
Went to a really cool restaurant in Montreal last night that was recommended by a colleague. Everything about the experience was great - the food, the wine, & especially the staff. You could tell right away that the people working there are passionate about what they do. Kelly at the bar was fantastic company & made the evening even better. Carter from the kitchen made an appearance to check in on us. Definitely a place I'd come back
Le Vin Papillon was truly one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in Montréal. Every dish we tried was incredible. The pairings with the food elevate the experience even further. One of the most impressive aspects is the creativity in the kitchen the flavours come together in surprisingly perfect harmony.
Great place with great food & service. The place is a little small & crowded but it helps building the atmosphere.
I truly don't get the hype... food was ok, portions were small & the wine recommendations were mediocre. Also, it's not cheap. $22 for 1 squid skewer is a bit ridiculous. No issues with the service but it did take awhile for us to get the bill
Amazing food, a lot of fun specials, & delicious drinks. I really liked their Elderflower Sour Mocktail. The suggestion was to order 4-6 dishes - we got 7 & still had room for dessert (of which we ordered 2). We left the restaurant reasonably full, but for the price, I expected a bit more food for each portion. We even considered for a moment going to another restaurant for an extra dish.
The vibe was immaculate, the staff really friendly & helpful (they were super attentive to my allergies), & the food was so good, with some surprising combos that worked super well.
A solid dining experience, just didn't get the bang for the buck we wanted in the end.
Would love to go back every time I'm in Montreal... Exceptional place
It's quite an experience to come to this place & try their delicious dishes. The service isn't the best; our waiter forgot to take our order & ask us if we needed anything else. They also gave us a table next to the entrance, & when the door opened, the cold winter air came in...
Very good. One of my favourite restaurants I've been to in the city. Also in a great location with other fun restos & bars around. Service was amazing from the start, explaining the menu throughly for us'first timers'. Fun plates to share, don't disregard the veggies as they are some of the best parts of the meal. The chilie cabbage was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. (Choi chili crisp). Thanks for the great service, food & ambience, will be back asap.
Decent wine collection, very good service, space is pretty tight but cozy, food is very tasteful though portions are pretty small.
