A nice middle eastern restaurant, in the heart of quartier Jean Talon. Everything I ordered was good & even the tea was great.
I recommend.
We were very much looking forward to our reservation for lunch since we love middle eastern cuisine & this place was recognized by the Michelin guide.
Unfortunately we left this place with our tongues feeling sore from the overly acidic menu items we had & with indigestion to top it all off 😔
We ordered a tasting menu (menu de degustation) to give a chance to the items the restaurant does best, but we found that almost all of them were too acidic without any items to balance this out (like something rich or even a bit sweet) to give our palates a chance to rest a bit from the acid.
We started with the lentil soup (Makhlouta) it was more like a stew, very heavy on the bulgur but nicely seasoned.
Then the tasting menu began, & with that our trouble, the Fattouche salad was really acidic due to all the sumac on it, the Hommos was also very much acidic likely to way too much lemon juice, the Saucisses d'Alep were just fine, from this starter course the highlights were the Mouhamara which was sweet & tasty & the Basterma, also tasty.
Then the second course, Chiche kebab (meat skewer, the best thing we had by far even with the acid sauce) & Chiche Taouck (chicken skewer) & seasoned, fries.
Again, both were very well seasoned but overly acidic, the chicken was particularly dry & tough, we sent it back & got a new plate which was a bit better but still dry, it's really a shame because the seasoning was something special, had it been cooked a bit less it would have been way more enjoyable.
I guess the Michelin person that visited either had a super strong palate to withstand all the acid or ate some other plates.
Don't think I'll be back.
If you crave syrian food with a bistro kind of vibe this is the place!
The restaurant has a wide choice of vegetarian options & meat ones so you can bring all your friends with you!
I suggest you to follow the waiter recommandations if it is the first time there!
I had tabboule, hummus, labne, mouttabal, falafel & a lamb plate!
The prices are affordable compared to the montreal average restaurant prices.
I definitely go back & recommend people to go there!
Wow. I am very passionate about syrian/lebanese food. Having tried many, in different places of the world, this place might be my #1 ever. Their mezze, meat, etc. It's simply incredible. The food is so loaded in flavour, I can't even describe it.
If I had to pick one place for improvement, I'd say - don't give customers bread in the plastic bag. Heat it before, serve it in a nice little basket (or even find a bakery that can make syrian bread for you to serve). That would be the cherry on top.
Stopped by for lunch with a friend. Food was tasty & service was good. Was shocked at the price & size of the fattouch. Found the menu on the steep side considering the size of the plates so value wasn't what I thought it should be. A good spot but wouldn't return as there are similar restaurants with better value.
Fantastic restaurant with a fantastic staff & beyond fantastic food ❤?❤? We made reservations & were seated quickly & started off with a lot of pita & Fattooche salad which were amazingly great ❤?❤? We also had Moussaka, Sabanegh, Chicken Tarator, Chicken Taouck, & Chicken Rice & each bite was beyond a gourmet's delight 😇😇 Full compliments to the chef as we ordered the Chicken Tarator & the Chicken rice again ❤?❤? For dessert we had the Baklawa & Caramel Cream & it was heaven on earth ❤?❤? Cannot wait to come back & try other items on the menu of this incredible 11/10 venue with family & friends 😇😇 Just make sure you make reservations as it is incredibly popular🙏🙏
I'm Syrian so I'll be a bit picky in my review. Overall the place is excellent, especially for the price point (really good value). The hummus, moujadara, & Kabbab Kach-Kach were great. The muhamara was not good. The Sea Bass fish with arak was below expectations. The vine leaves were fantastic. The atmosphere & service were great. The place is authentic & fun & I would totally come again.
The food was good, but the service was disappointing. We ordered two appetizers & two main courses, the main courses arrived first & they forgot about our appetizers. We mentioned it so they served it afterwards, but we didn't want it anymore. Also, they never took our orders for drinks of the entire meal.
Perfect oasis after a stroll through the Jean Talon farmers market. Noshed on special recipe hummus, mujadara, tabouli, pitas, grilled shrimp & spicy fries. Brought back to life.
Trooop top.
On a fêté ma résidence permanente ici.
Our recent visit was disappointing, mainly due to the host's lack of accommodation. While we requested a terrace table, & one became available, we were denied the chance to move, even though other guests next to us asked another member of staff after & were easily relocated.
This left us feeling unfairly treated & just displayed the host's unpleasant behaviour.
Additionally, the food was underwhelming (the kefta was dry & was clearly just reheated & was cold in the middle) & the indoor ambiance was uncomfortable due to the heat- they have no AC. The decor is old & overused.
On the bright side, our server was very pleasant.
We hadn't been in a couple of years & it has clearly gone downhill. Very disappointing.
