Most things were so delicious especially the fatoush & chich tawouk. I loved the lentil soup & kibbeh as well. However as a Syrian, the rice in the yalanji did not feel very fresh although the spicing was good
Alep continues to be one of Montreal's most popular restaurants, & it's easy to see why. The service was excellent throughout our visit-friendly, attentive, & welcoming from start to finish. I would highly recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant is always busy & fills up quickly.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, although it can get quite loud when it's full. The menu offers a huge variety of options, but first-time visitors may find the layout a little confusing to navigate.
We started with the hummus, which was absolutely incredible. It was wonderfully creamy with a rich olive-forward flavour & a depth that made it hard to stop eating. We also tried the moutabal, which was smooth, creamy, & tangy with an almost yogurt-like texture that was very enjoyable.
My husband ordered the Chiche Taouk, while I chose the Chiche Kebab with filet mignon. Both dishes were packed with flavour & the quality of the meat was excellent. The only challenge was that they were a little awkward to eat as served-too messy for hands, yet difficult to tackle neatly with a fork & knife. That said, I would absolutely order either dish again; I'd just assemble & eat it a little differently next time.
For dessert, we shared the Knafé Bel Coco. The crispy fried vermicelli topping was easily the highlight & absolutely delicious. The coconut base was tasty as well, although the texture varied somewhat throughout the dessert, with some areas being thicker than others. The fruit topping wasn't quite to my personal taste, but I would happily order this dessert again & simply skip the fruit.
Overall, Alep offers fantastic food, warm service, & a lively atmosphere. Between the outstanding hummus, flavourful mains, & unique desserts, it's a restaurant well worth visiting.
I came here with my coworkers & had a great time. One of the best meals I've had.
However, I brought my partner here later, & we had an absolutely terrible time. The service was shockingly poor.
The waiter had no intention of service us, answering our questions, or bringing our food out when it was ready (it was all cold by the time it arrived).
