Update:
I recently went to grab a cake from here, I believe I got the hazelnut chocolate cake. Everything looked nice from the outside but the cake was very dry on the inside. The flavor was there but the dryness was too evident.
Great vegan tartes; they have hazelnut, pear/pistachio, apple & I believe their last vegan option is raspberry. The cafe only has two seats to dine in & I only saw bubble tea drinks but they may have other beverages. All of their desserts are gluten free but don't worry, everything is delicious & fresh.
I love this place!! The gluten free!! The amazing ness!!! I go back every time I'm in monteral JUST to get the Passioned fruit white chocolate mouse cake thingy. It's one of the best desserts iv ever had. This place is tied for the best gluten free place in Canada, the only other place is the lemon tree in Vancouver to hold a chandle to it.
I eat gluten but my friend has Celiac's so we went here. Best pastry I've ever had in my life gluten aside. I got the chocolate almond croissant & an iced latte!
We are from Chicago & we do not have anything like this! We left with C$70 worth of pastries, including a bag of frozen chocolate croissants, a bag of frozen, regular croissants, two eclairs & two chocolate croissants. The eclairs were out of this world the chocolate croissants were amazing. If you're gluten-free run, don't walk to this bakery. It is pricey, but honestly, what gluten-free bakery is not pricey unfortunately.
Best gluten-free pastries I've ever had! Actually, among the best pastries I've ever had even outside of being GF. I had the chocolate almond croissant a few months back & bought some frozen ones to bring home, too. I just reheated one after several months of being in the freezer & it was still amazing! Interior of the shop could be nicer but there is a lovely sitting area outside when the weather allows!
Pastries were okay. Pistachio eclair didn't really have much pistachio flavor - just tasted sweet. The passion fruit mousse & the chocolate croissant tasted nice & had great texture. The brownie was thick & chocolatey, but also gritty. Overall, I'd say that all items were priced reasonably. When I came in, I wasn't greeted by the person working despite me saying hello first. Customer service/overall vibes were definitely lacking, & she seemed miserable/bothered to be interacting with me. Not sure if many people who look like me (Black people) stop by this place...but based on my experience I'll be visiting another gluten free bakery the next time I'm in Montreal.
When it comes to gluten free pastries, I've not seen a single bakery that comes close to what you can get at Boulangerie Le Marquis. I live in Ottawa but always come here when I'm in Montreal. I've had a lot of the tarts, but the Pain Chocolate & Croissants (both gluten free) are certainly the best. The dough is actually laminated, the way you'd expect a croissant to be. So many gluten free bakeries have let me down on that front but this is not one of them! You can buy them fresh or frozen. They store well in the freezer for up to a few months & are easy to reheat. Pictures attached are the pain chocolats reheated in the oven with an egg wash.
Had the passionfruit-chocolate mousse & it was just yum! The gluten-allergic person was so happy to be able to eat such a delicious cake!
