We were supposed to go to another restaurant for our anniversary, but decided to pop in as this restaurant is closer to our place & the hostess was kind enough to accommodate our unexpected arrival. Right when you walk in, you notice the ambiance is spot on - never been to Rome specifically but everything felt right from decor to the menu. Mood was also amplified by the amazing Dean Martin classics they were playing.
Food was delicious, la Spada is a homey eatery that serves simple Roman classics, executed very well. The vitello saltimbocca was the highlight, reading some reviews saying its salty - not sure what they expected with a dish wrapped in prosciutto. The salt was nicely balanced with a squeeze of lemon & the buttery wine sauce they served it with, I cleaned the bone despite being full. Pasta was perfectly cooked & portions were generous. I thought the price of the pasta was high at first glance but the portion you get is certainly worth it.
We had the pleasure of being served by Liam who was attentive but for the most part let us enjoy our dinner (the way it should be). Someone, who I believe was the owner, came over to check in on us - its clear that these people care about their clients & the food they serve. The lower reviews I read seemed unjustified from my experience; disgruntled individuals who complain no matter what, or come with lots of entitlement & very little understanding.
Thank you La Spada!
J'ai eu la mauvaise idée de ne pas réserver avant d'aller à La Spada. Par chance, j'ai eu la chance d'avoir une place au bar & de me faire servir par Hocine. Barman incroyable & nourriture succulente. Merci!
This restaurant is nicely decorated & has a great atmosphere, although they could think of better music to play. The food unfortunately is overpriced for what it is. We enjoyed the branzino & the Brussels sprouts. The pasta was alright, but the portion was way too large for a primo. The tiramisu was really quite sad…
They seem to have issues with pacing of the food. When we had just received our appetizer, all our other courses were thrown at the table. Besides that these dishes didn't all fit on the small table at the same time & made it uncomfortable to eat, it's honestly just a big no go to serve mains at the same time as the primi…we felt rushed & most of the food was cold by the time we got to it.
We really wanted to love this restaurant but were disappointed in the overall experience provided.
The food here is truly incredible. The carbonara was comparable to the homemade carbonara I had in Rome. I've been craving it for weeks since I left. The service was also great!
Really nice food & great selection of Italian wine, service is great !
It is a little noisy but part of the vibrant atmosphere
Top of my spotlist in Montreal I recommend
La Spada is a beautiful Italian restaurant with phenomenal food, great decor & great service. Do yourself a favor & make sure to order the Focaccia (extra Bomba on the side is a must). They recently added a 20oz T-bone steak on the menu, & let me tell you, one of the best steaks I've ever had at a restaurant. Thank you Luca & team for a fantastic time, every time.
Amazing experience at La Spada. I absolutely loved the atmosphere there, it felt like we were in Italy! The food was amazing & fresh, & we were lucky to be served by Luca, who gave us great recommendations & made sure our needs were met throughout the evening. Highly recommended!
From the moment we walked in, we loved this place. The atmosphere feels very warm & welcoming.
We had the pleasure of being served by Luca, the manager of the restaurant. He is very knowledgeable about the various dishes they serve & he guided us on what to order based on our wine choice. The food was incredible, everything we ate was flavourful & well portioned. Highly recommend.
Amazing experience at La Spada! Beautifully decorated like a restaurant in the heart of Rome we got sharing platters for a table of 7 & they accommodated us at every step. Starting with a salty warm foccacia that went so well with the traditional tortellini soup. We had the arancini, broccolini, Brussels sprouts, vodka pasta, ragu pasta, 20oz steak & lamb chops. Everything was absolutely delectable, all served by a warm & knowledgeable Luca. Amazing culinary experience overall, highly recommend!!
