Review Summary

La Spada is widely celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, stylish decor, and authentic Italian cuisine that keeps guests coming back. Many diners praise the exceptional service, highlighting the professionalism and warmth of the staff, while the handmade pasta, fresh appetizers, and decadent desserts like the panna cotta and tiramisu consistently receive high marks. While the majority of guests have glowing experiences, some feedback notes inconsistencies such as over-salted dishes, pacing issues during busy periods, or occasional lapses in service. Despite mixed reviews regarding pricing and volume levels, the restaurant remains a popular destination for birthdays, dates, and social gatherings in Montreal, often noted for its welcoming energy and high-quality culinary offerings.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From the moment we walked in, our experience at La Spada was exceptional. Every detail was thoughtfully executed-from the beautiful décor & warm atmosphere to the impeccable service. The staff was incredibly attentive throughout the evening, making sure our table had everything we needed while making us feel genuinely welcomed & appreciated. The owner was present & actively involved in the restaurant, which added such a personal touch & really showed how much they care about the guest experience.

We were a group, so we had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes, & every single one was outstanding. The Caesar salad special was one of the best I've ever had, & the homemade focaccia was absolute perfection. The mushroom pasta was rich & full of flavor, the branzino was cooked beautifully, & everything else we ordered was equally impressive.

As someone with a serious sweet tooth, dessert is always a big deal for me, & La Spada absolutely delivered. The Ferrero Rocher ball-a giant, house-made take on the classic chocolate-was both original & incredibly delicious. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.

La Spada has mastered every aspect of the dining experience. We left already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend!

Another good Italian restaurant. We were a group of 8. We all enjoyed the appetizers as well as the main course. The only recommendation wld be good if they cld add one or more pasta to the menu ..
They were nice offering a nice dessert with a candle to our graduates …

Sadly didn't live up to the hype. Could barely hear anything in the restaurant & the waitress was unable to project her voice. Our entire table had an issue hearing anything she said all night. The aperol spritz was completely flat - like it was just tap water & aperol…
They ran out of pork chops after we ordered it & then decided to tell us this as the rest of the table was receiving their mains, thus causing two people to get their meals after the rest of the table so - all that had been served just got cold… the eggplant dish was tiny & was basically unseasoned, had to ask for salt to make it decent to eat. Asked for camomile tea & they kept bringing fruit tea. We flagged down three different people to ask for the right tea & they kept bringing fruit tea - all to learn at the end finally that they ran out of camomile tea & didn't ever bother to tell us this, so we had to go through this hoopla wondering why everyone just kept bringing a tea we didn't want. They offered us a free dessert to say sorry for the pork chop issue but we don't eat dessert. So what's the point? It was so strange & for their prices & the high expectations set, it did not meet the bar. Too bad as I wanted to love it

If you're in Montreal at any point, don't even THINK of missing a dinner at La Spada. One of the best spots I've visited for dinner & cocktails. The food is impeccable, the cocktails are insanely good, the vibes are perfect, & the dessert....order the Panna cotta - best dessert I've ever had!

The good: the focaccia & rigatoni alla vodka were very good. They also have a coat check, & the atmosphere was inviting.

The bad: it took close to 10 minutes for my friend's main dish to come out. We had to send 3 reminders to staff about the missing food before somebody went to the kitchen to check. As a result, our dishes were no longer hot. A complimentary dessert to share would have been lovely & eased our disappointment, but instead we got a half-hearted apology.

Man, I've been looking forward to finally checking out La Spada for a year now. I don't get out to eat nearly as often as I'd like these days, so when we walked in, it hit different right away. Coatcheck, tablecloths, proper dim lighting that actually feels cozy instead of stuffy, attentive service without being over-the-top-hospitality done right. The decor's fun & playful in this relaxed, homey way that's elegant but totally unpretentious. & the playlist? Classic hits with a modern spin-think Boney M flowing into funky'Stayin' Alive' covers. It kept the vibe light & enjoyable the whole night.
We started with the green salad, & honestly, it blew me away. So light & fluffy, way beyond what I expected from a simple salad. They really nailed it. Then the fritto misto-crispy as hell from the first bite to the last, perfectly seasoned. No weak links there.
The homemade charcuterie & focaccia was an absolute highlight for me: the cotechino sausage & coppa (two ways) were spot-on, rich & flavorful without being heavy. We also got the side of mushrooms in garlic cream sauce, which was killer-super creamy & garlicky. Only thing I wished for was some extra focaccia or bread to mop up every last drop of that sauce. Next time, I'm definitely asking.
For mains, it's all about that comforting Italian soul: we went with the braised duck ragù over pappardelle & the pork shoulder with polenta & gremolata. Knowing all the pastas are made in-house just makes it better. The flavors were so balanced-everything married perfectly, no dish felt one-note. Portions are seriously generous too, which makes sharing easy & fun.
Desserts sealed the deal. They've got a pastry chef on site (which is rarer than it should be), & nothing fell short. The tiramisu was huge & classic, there was this playful take on Ferrero Rocher that was indulgent & playful in the best way, & then the cherry mascarpone cake-man, that one was my personal favorite. It left such a good, memorable finish to the whole evening.
The experience was genuinely wonderful from start to finish. A huge thank you to Scott for creating such a special spot, to the chef & the pastry team for the incredible food, & to the entire service staff for making the night feel so welcoming & effortless. If you're in Montréal & craving real, thoughtful Italian without the pretension, La Spada delivers. We left happy, full, & already talking about when we're going back. Highly recommend.

Splendid experience as usual, super attentive servers & outstanding pasta & drinks. We were disappointed that the exquisite squash ravioli was no longer on the winter menu but the vodka rosé rigatoni made up for it. The dessert of the moment was also incredible; like a soft shell chewy pistachio volcano with a cake-stuffed meringue centre. We will be back very soon xo
