Review Summary

La Chope Angus - Brasserie Artisanale is described as a lively, convivial spot with a strong beer program and consistently attentive service that makes it easy to visit with friends or in a group. The menu is broad, with gluten free and vegan options, and many reviewers praise dishes from vegan spaghetti meatballs to fish and chips, poutine, welsh rarebit, burgers, tartare and a range of starters and desserts such as speculoos panna cotta. Dishes like mushroom stew and other comfort plates are repeatedly highlighted as flavorful and well prepared, and portions are noted as generous. A few critiques focus on special event menus where certain dishes were disappointing, with an oily risotto or overly sweet sauces and desserts not to taste, and a few plates described as greasy. The ambiance and service are consistently praised, with indoor and outdoor seating and a friendly staff, though the inside can be noisy at times. Overall, the reviews point to a place worth returning to for the beer, the warm atmosphere, and a diverse menu that accommodates dietary needs.

I usually go to La Chope for a beer a few times throughout year & the beers are good & the servers are nice. However, the MTLaTable food was very disappointing.

For the main course, I got the oat & Jerusalem artichoke risotto & the taste was terrible. The flavored oil floating on top of the'soupy' unappetizing oat risotto was overpowering the dish in a really bad way & making me nauseous. Additionally, there seemed to be no Jerusalem artichoke in this dish & the oat on its own was just bland. This dish was so bad that no one finished their plate at our table.

For dessert, even though the MTLaTable website mentions Spéculos panna cotta, the restaurant actually served a Spéculos mousse which was actually quite good. It was not overly sweet with a subtle taste of Spéculos. The berry coulis was also good but there was too much of it in my opinion.

For the first course, I got the mushroom stew which seemed to be more of sauteed mushrooms but the dish was well seasoned & good!

What a great place. Indoor & outdoor seating available. Beer Sangria was very tasty. Brussel sprout Caesar was excellent. Fish & chips wonderful as well as the beef tartare. Service great & will return.

Ok - so amazing; exactly why Montreal is right there to compete with the best of North America; the beers were lights out (red ale & cask ale) & dishes like Boudin Noir & shrimp in a pear & fennel sauce; *I mean crazy gr8*…!

Seven shades of awesomeness! Enjoyed the beers a bunch - some excellent variety. Fantastic food - The Ploughman's was a fabulous local variation. The terrasse was brilliant & the serving staff friendly & informative. Go there, you'll have fun.

Amazing brewpub in a nice neighborhood that tourists should check out.
Wonderful decor, the bright tanks over the bar is a great touch.
It was nice out, so I took advantage of the lovely terrace.
I absolutely love the variety of beers here, & everything I've tried was great. I love that they're brewing English styles like ESB & a dark mild.
Excellent service. I didn't try the food, but it looked amazing, gotta come back for brunch.
Definitely worth a detour.
