JEAN TALON MARKET - Yeah!! Third time lucky with bi-valves!!
During the past year, this lack of self-discipline Bi-Valves lover ( & family members ) had suffered the wrath of food poisoning by having devour some tainted oysters at Barcelona's Mercat de la Boqueria & London's Borough Market. At Jean Talon Market, the sight of one of the most impressive oyster stalls ever came across was too much of a temptation for this oyster addict to pass-by. Armed with travel medical coverage & the fact that we are still in Canada, I decided to take the plunge & go for it!! Man! Am I glad I did.
The'triple-checked' ( according to the vendor owner ), pristine fresh products, served super cold were so ^^$$@$% good!! In particular, the JUMBO Mamacita, which was so umami sweet, plump & chewy, not overly salty or without an excessive metallic taste. The less imposing size Sea Angle was mighty fine too. But those super-sweet & crunchy Cherry Stone clams?! Wow!!!.....IMO, the best $2 bites in the world!
Oh! BTW, this time I was protected by the Foodie God…..NO food poisoning symptoms!! Pheeeewww!!
Amazing oysters! Love going there & having some fresh oysters & then go for a walk around the Jean Talon market. Definitely a must!
For the perfect summer ritual with wine & the atmosphere of an authentic coastal market.
It was a very crowded raw oyster bar on the corner of the public market. I had the slurp & slurp express & was impressed with the quality & flavours. Although I’m not sure if it was worth $18, I still enjoyed the oysters & recommend this place to anyone visiting the public market!
We were happy to be part of La Boite aux Huîtres's first ever edition of the "Merci pour les Huîtres" event ("Thank you for the Oysters" event) in collaboration with Virginia Seafood. Three kinds of oysters were part of the event:
J&W Seafood from Lower Bay Western Shore, Massawadox Salts from Upper Bay Eastern Shore & Sewansecott from Seaside.
A little suggestion, the next time you will pass by the Jean-Talon market, come visit La Boite aux Huîtres & slurp some fresh delicious oysters! We promise you will fall in love all over again with the sea because we did!
