3 words. Worth the wait.
The food here is absolutely fantastic. You may be greater by a 30-45 minute wait, but wow is it worth it. The Japanese curry is absolutely fantastic, & the beef ribs, amazing.
The service is really quick & friendly.
Perfect for a quick date night.
Recommend 10/10.
Fantastic Japanese Restaurant!
Delicious food, fair prices, & a unique atmosphere make this place a standout. The staff is warm & attentive, adding to the overall great experience. Loved every moment-highly recommend!
This is the best authentic Japanese restaurant ever!!! The food 10/10, the service 10/10 the only downside is the wait to get in but that's how you know the place is worth it (s.n. they don't do reservations)
Kazu is undeniably one of Montreal's premier Japanese dining experiences.
Upon entering, you're greeted by a cozy, warm, & traditional ambiance. The staff exemplify Japanese hospitality, being attentive, polite, & eager to address any inquiries. The menu strikes a perfect balance, offering a diverse selection without overwhelming patrons. Notably, the menu is creatively displayed on a collection of papers affixed to the wall, adding to the restaurant's charm.
Every dish we sampled was impeccably presented & delectable, reinforcing the notion that there are no wrong choices at Kazu.
In short, Kazu offers an authentic & memorable Japanese dining experience in Montreal. I wholeheartedly recommend it without hesitation.
Tried the Vegetarian range at Kazu. We had Veg Bowl & Bibimbap Japanese style (veg).
We wanted to try the Japanese curry which was in the chef's list apart from the menu but it was out of stock. But no regrets, both the dishes were absolutely amazing. The sauces, both quite unique were rich in flavor & i would highly suggest you to try them. The tofu was very soft, felt fresh. The vegetables were quite nicely done, carrots were pickled & sesame seeds drizzled on top. On the bibimbap contained an egg nicely done, the rice tasted soooo good & overall very well worth it compared to the price. Both bowls were very big & imo one bowl could serve 2 people.
Kazu stays at a bar to it's high rating, especially the staff is awesome. Very polite , helpful, quick service & everything you wish in a restaurant.
The ambience is also unique. Feels like a hustling & bustling restaurant in Japan with songs, happy people & tasty dishes.
Definitely order the fried beans on the side.
We also had desserts , one cheesecake ice cream & one sake icecream. While the cheesecake icecream was the best (really soulful) in Montreal, the sake icecream was very unique & we tried it for the first time. It has vanilla ice cream with sake on the top. Which made it taste quite unique & definitely try it out if you love experimenting things.
In all, superb place, deserves 5 star ⭐ & the staff makes the place lovely.
To try next time : Onigiri
A great place for dinner despite the long waiting list. They serve dishes very quickly after ordering. Their food has excellent presentation, but the portion on protein is a bit small. I would get more Salmon in my plate if I go to another Japanese restaurant. Price is fair. Beautiful Japanese style decoration in the restaurant. The seating space is a bit tight.
A bit if not a lot disappointed: I ordered a chirashi dish, but ended up with a carpaccio instead, which surprised me. While the flavors were ok, this was not what I expected/wanted at all. I also got the yuzu sake cocktail, which did not state it was fizzy, something I can't drink so I just handed it to my friend… honestly I wouldn't wait to get in cause there are tons of nice nice Japanese restaurants that aren't as packed & loud, although the waitresses were super nice :)
Haven't been there for a few years but this is by far my favourite Japanese restaurant in Montreal. Recommend without any hesitation! Prices are fair given extreme quality. Chef is an as! Staff always friendly. Japanese tavern ambience so expect to be seated tight closed to other guests. Amazing experience, always.
I got to dine in at this Japanese restaurant & the food was so delicious that I went back a few hours later to enjoy my second meal. Both times I had to wait around 20-30 minutes in line but it was worth the wait. Beef bibimbap was absolutely delicious, the beef was tender, moist & flavorful. Shrimp burger was super soft, ramen was big enough to share & the homemade tofu was ultra soft & delicious. Finally to end the meal, there is selection of ice cream flavors to choose from. I had the chocolate brioche & it was not too sweet. I enjoyed all the dishes that I got to try out from here, very fresh & authentic. Despite service being extremely busy, they were helpful & friendly.
I FINALLY went to Kazu last night & it was one of the best dinners I've had in Montreal. We ate so much & yet didn't feel heavy, actually felt nourished & happy :) We got soft tofu salad with Kimchi dressing, pancake w. Shrimp, grilled Seabass & Kalbi for just the two of us. & house warm house Sake to wash it all down. De-licious! Totally worth the 40 min wait in line. The servers were awesome & I even got to practice some Japanese with them. Highly recommend this eatery.
After years we finally made it to Kazu & boy, it is indeed worth the hype & the wait outside in line. If you're looking for authentic Japanese food which is priced so fair (especially compared to other Montreal restaurants!) this is it. 10/10 everything we tried was delicious & authentic. We had several shared starters, main & desserts & loved everything.
Hands down one of the best authentic Japanese izakaya places I've been to. The owner was extremely friendly & courteous, & you can clearly see that come through with his team members, food & service. Congrats to the Kazu team. A must visit if you're in Montreal... the lineup out the door speaks for itself. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal.
Small fusion Japanese near our hotel. Excellent food & service It's a very small establishment thought so you might have to wait during peak hours
Staffs are friendly. Food is really good. Best Japanese restaurant in Montreal.
