Review Summary

Katsuya is widely regarded as a standout destination for authentic, high-quality Japanese comfort food in Montreal, frequently praised for its consistently crispy, tender katsu and generous portion sizes that offer excellent value. Many diners highlight the delicious variety of sauces and creative fusion dishes, such as the rose katsu and udon, which mirror the flavorful experiences found in Japan. While the restaurant experiences occasional challenges with wait times during busy periods and inconsistencies in atmosphere, the staff is generally described as friendly, attentive, and helpful. With its fresh ingredients and comforting meals, this restaurant remains a popular choice for those seeking a satisfying and reliable dining experience in the city center.

Finally a good katsu place in Montreal!! We went twice in two days. Both times were delicious.

The pork katsu is light & crunchy, fried to perfection without being too overwhelming. There is also a summer meal with cold SOBA noodles, which we have never found in Montreal until now! They are absolutely delicious & the broth is very flavorful. Last time we ate soba noodles was in Japan so we were very excited, 10/10 recommend.

This place is a hidden gem for anyone who loves authentic Japanese comfort food. The portion sizes are very generous for the price point & you can tell they use fresh ingredients. I tried the classic pork katsu & it was cooked to perfection. The staff was very friendly & made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. It is a great addition to the neighborhood & I highly recommend checking it out.

I went on two occasions: first time I had a Japanese katsu, second time I had the sweet chili katsu. I loved the cutlets for its crunch & flavor. However, for both times, the coleslaw was hard & tasted bland. St-Hubert coleslaw is way better. I would recommend getting dishes that don't have coleslaw. On the bright side, I loved the honey fries, crunchy & lightly powdered with the right amount of sugar~

Portions are super generous! Pork loin was surprisingly juicy. Even after reheating (takeout), it was not too dry. Pretty good if you're craving for katsu. Not the best, but not bad. Would recommend!

Katsuya has been on my'Want to go' list for years & on end of February, me & my friends decided to go give it a try it. I really loved their Japanese Katsuya chicken & karaage! Super crunchy & sweet-salty sauce balances the flavours. We ate during lunch period so it was nice & peaceful that we're able to have conversations, & service was quick. Prices is roughly $16-$22 depending on what you get. I recommend coming here with friends or a quick lunch/dinner, as it's fulfilling!
