Review Summary

Katsuya is widely regarded as a top destination in Montreal for authentic Japanese and Korean style katsu, consistently praised for its generous portions, crispy textures, and juicy meat. Many visitors highlight the high quality of the food, noting that it successfully mirrors the flavors found in Japan. While the menu offers a diverse range of creative options, such as the popular red carbonara and cheese katsu, the friendly and efficient service significantly enhances the overall dining experience for most guests. Although a few minor inconsistencies regarding wait times, interior ambiance, or specific side dishes are occasionally noted, the majority of patrons find the value and taste to be exceptional, making it a highly recommended spot that keeps them coming back.

Food was delicious & filling, super comforting & warm. Love the pork tonkatsu with curry & rice. Very generous with the portion. Highly recommend, will return

The food was very tasty & fresh. We both ordered the Katsu curry & one drink each. It was a little pricey for 2 people but heyy we had left overs for lunch. So no complaints 😜 I might go again to try the red carbonara Katsu dish. The service was quick & the experience was pleasant.

The atmosphere was really nice. Since it was my first visit, I was a bit confused but the staff were friendly & explained everything well, which I really appreciated. The curry katsu & the japanese katsu were both crispy & delicious & they pair perfectly with the house lemonade. If you're looking for a Japanese style katsu restaurant, I think this place would be my number one. It also seems like the only truly authentic Japanese katsu spot in Montreal.

Menu is a bit of a hit or miss… I did like my pork curry, but my friends didn't enjoy their original & Japanese chicken ones. The appetizers - honey fries, shrimps & karaage - were very underwhelming. Portion sizes were good.

Wanted to try Katsu & this establishment was recommended by my sister in law.
There's lots I different meals to choose from. A few appetizers also available. We had the snow cheese balls(3) for an appetizer, which is breaded crab meat with cheese. The main meals were Sweet Chilli Katsu & a Pork Curry Katsu.
Both came with shredded lettuce & rice & were of decent portions. The whole meal was good!
Decent sized dining area, probably about 80 seats. Clean & very relaxing atmosphere. Service was very good! They accept cash & major credit cards. No dedicated parking so parking on the street could be a challenge.
Overall a very good supper experience. Would recommend.

The pork Katsu with curry was delicious. Also, the serving of pork is generous, & the meat is so tender. I wish they'd serve it with something other than raw cabbage, but that seems to be the standard way it's served at any katsudon place. They should serve it with tempura vegetables. That being said, as far as shredded, raw cabbage salads go, it was okay - they seasoned it with a light dressing which tasted good, but I'd take a coleslaw over it any day. My other gripe is that they don't provide enough curry (sauce) to go with the meat & rice. Curry is not expensive, so there should be a good amount of it to go with the other elements on the plate - otherwise you're kind of serving an incomplete dish. Thankfully the pork itself was so good, I could look past the shortcomings. Our waitress was attentive & very friendly.

Great food, exactly was expected. I've never been to Japan but the Curry Katsu sauce was better than I imagined. The Takoyakis as an entry are a MUST. Crispy & beautiful presentation. Totally would go back

Hands down the best curry pork katsu. Hard to access from suburbs but I go there malgré tout.
