Ordered the Omakase. Absolutely exquisitely prepared - with close attention to detail. Fish was beautifully selected & complimented each other perfectly. Accompanying courses are seasonal so coming back is always fun.

Although a bit expensive, the portions & the quality of the food makes up for the price. Their omakase comes with 3 appetisers, 15 pieces of sushi & a dessert for around 120$. The pieces of sushi were quite big & the cut of fishes were quite generous. I especially liked their Funny Maki because there was a great contrast in the temperature which made it so unique & delicious. I was surprised because I usually don't like fried sushi that much. As for the appetisers, I feel like the first two dishes were a bit too sour which overwhelmed the flavours of the ingredients but their octopus appetiser had a great balance of sweetness & saltiness which made it so wonderful. The quality of the ingredients is amazing, each slices were really fresh & I especially enioyed the fresh scallop sushi which had a great seafood sweetness to it. The service was superb. The waiters & waitresses were all extremely patient & professional, taking the time to explain each dish while they were serving it to the table. Even though the place was quite fancy with the minimalistic interior decors, I feel like the semi casual atmosphere fits the place extremely well & it was pretty easy to talk at our table until later at night when the restaurant was more crowded, I felt like we had to shout a bit to be heard.

Went to Jun I with high expectations. Overall, it was a good experience, though not outstanding considering the premium pricing.

The sushi quality is excellent, with fresh, tasty, & fatty cuts of fish-definitely among the better sushi spots in Montreal. My personal highlight was the curry sushi, which stood out as particularly delicious.

However, service was friendly but slow & somewhat disorganized. Our group of six ended up staying for almost three hours, partly due to long wait times between courses. Some dishes arrived unevenly, leaving some of us without food for extended periods.

Desserts were enjoyable, but nothing exceptional.

One notable issue was the soy sauce, which our entire group found overly salty & concentrated. It detracted somewhat from the sushi's delicate flavors.

Despite these points, Jun I is still a solid choice for a high-end sushi dinner with friends, just adjust your expectations accordingly.

The fish is fresh & good quality, but it's really about their unique rolls. They also do traditional roll combos as hand rolls.

One of the best sushi places in Montreal hands down. Great quality of fish , excellent service & such affordable prices. I don't recommend the omakase but all their sushi is amazing. The freshness is unbeatable.

Really good quality (some of it local) fish, chill atmosphere & excellent service! We chose the smaller sushi option x 2 & it was plenty of food. Such a wonderful spot

We had a delicious & fun mean at Jun I. We loved the service, & the fish was very fresh. It was billed as the best omakase in Montreal &, while great, it is not. The hot & cold dishes were ok, but stand out. The sushi & sashimi were great but the maki roll we got was ok. Recommend trying it & loving it when you have the right expectations.

Excellent sushi place. They have a small, but meaningful menu. The restaurant is very lively & inviting. We had dinner on a Wed, starting at open, & by 7 pm, all the tables were full. Three primary things on the menu: - "omakase" (in quotes because it is table-side, not traditional, bar-side, one-bite at a time). Includes 4 hot dishes, & 15 nigiri, maki, sashimi, - only the 15 raw-fish option, - a-la-carte. We opted for the 15 raw-fish option "omakase" with a couple of add-ons. The candied salmon trout was amazing. Sushi were fresh & tasty, albeit no premium pieces (CAD 75 for 15 pieces is quite generous, & hard to get premium pieces), Service was fantastic. Recommend.

A very lovely sushi restaurant, where I would have to recommend at least doing the moriawase option. I did not try the omakase option, & maybe regret not doing so in hindsight. If deciding a la carte, do try the scallop gunkan & if possible the japanese mackerel (it was a unique offering during our visit). The establishment is pretty but small & relatively modest. Almost too small as you can hear a loud table quite easily. You may be taken aback by the simplicity of it all, including the disposable chopsticks for your use. Hiding behind the first impressions however are a warm towel to clean your hands, unique off-menu options, a knowledgeable & thoughtful server, & an amuse bouche that was a substantially sized gunkan sushi in our case. Be ready to pay upwards of $100 per person to leave satisfied, but also be ready to receive over-average sushi sizes. Each piece of sushi is on average 5 dollars with regards to the moriawase, but each is sized reasonably. I enjoyed the Jun Gin cocktail, sumashi soup appetizer, & the white chocolate/yuzu/fennel dessert. The latter was very unique, helped cut the fishiness left over on my plate, & frankly made my night. I hope to return here!

The we worst sushi ever. I ve been to this restaurant few years ago, itcwas an amazing experience. But yesterday i was really disappointed & sad. Paying more than 100 $ for a mediocre food & sushi. It was very amateurish. I will ever go again to this restaurant instead i ll learn how to make my own sushi since am used to buy a very high quality of fish. Why bother to throw away my money on a such bad experience. It's a total scam. Mistake a client with the poor food but very expensive one. Not to mention long service.

Diner was absolutely delicious ! You can tell the fish is super fresh & you get your money's worth. Loved the waiters & their attention to details (never had to ask for anything). Good music & happy to see options of tasty non-alcoholic drinks as well. Overall great experience, will come back FOR SURE !!

We had the best experience, service was above & beyond, the fish was buttery & so incredibly fresh (we had the sushi moriawase). The matcha dessert was a winner, as well. We can't wait to come back. Deserves all the hype & more.

Fish is consistently top 3 in Montreal. Maki/nigiri/sashimi always solid. Ambiance & service have declined post pandemic. No sushi bar anymore significantly hurts the ambiance.

food was top tier, BUT the service on the other hand was terrible. this was my second time coming here & had booked for a birthday. we ended up getting the omakase menu & the duck breast & crusted fish were my favourites (besides the sushi assortment of course). though, the downside was that we had waited such a long time in between each shared course. we were seated in the restaurant for two & a half hours, which is i think is not ideal for a six-course meal. mind you, the restaurant flow was overall moderate. overall, i would only come back for the à la carte as it seems that everyone after us was getting their food five times faster.

I’m not a person that ever leaves reviews but JunI was so spectacular I simply had to. Very friendly & attentive waitstaff that know what they’re talking about when asked about the products. They deliver each item with an entire description & breakdown so you’re not left guessing. Highest quality fish & drinks. The chef himself personally comes out to every table to ensure they had a quality experience & to ask about the night. 10/10 spot.

We ate here last night & overall enjoyed the entire meal. The kitchen staff is very talented & it is obvious in the output. They generally showed better than the front of house. We decided to order the omakase menu as the best way to try the most dishes & get a sense of the restaurant.

Here is the menu we had last night:

Asari kinoko
Palourdes, jus de palourde, tomates, fenouil, pleurottes royales, huile de poireau.
Clams, clam juice, tomatoes, fennel, king oyster mushrooms, leek oil

A fantastic little starter course served with a small bowl of marinated daikon radishes. The clams were perfectly cooked. It seems a bit weird to eat tomatoes this late in the season.

Hotate crudo
Pétoncles kobujime au gin Ungava, betteraves jaunes, vinaigrette au yuzu, huile de coriandre
Ungava gin kobujime scallops, golden beets, yuzu dressing, cilantro oil

This was my wife's favorite course. I loved it too. The scallops were delicious. The flavors complemented each other well. I felt the cilantro was a bit overbearing in the dish. (& yes, I do like cilantro)

Shiromi
Poisson blanc du jour mariné au shio koji, courge musquée, babaganoush d'aubergines asiatiques, myoga
Shio koji marinated white fish of the day, butternut squash, Asian eggplants babaganoush, myoga

I like this dish quite a bit. But I wish the wait staff had explained all the components rather than just dropping it at the table after saying it was white fish with eggplant. The chef is far more poetic in his wording & it would have enhanced the meal to see the eggplant was an Asian version of babaganoush. Reading it today, I now have a better picture of the dish & that would have added to the experience.

Tako
Pieuvre marinée au sel de Kombu & grillée, radicchio, piments shishito, pommes de terre, choux de Bruxelles, suprêmes d'orange, sauce yaki & ail noir
Kombu salt marinated & grilled octopus, radicchio, shishito peppers, potatoes, brussels sprouts, orange supreme, yaki & black garlic sauce

This is another course where the wait staff could have better explained the dish rather than simply drop at the table with only a few words. Black garlic was never mentioned & it is a key ingredient. It was a fantastic use of Fall ingredients. Bravo to the chef.

Omakase de Junichi San
Assortiment de nigiris, sashimis & makis : 15 mcx / personnel

A very nice selection of beautiful seafood presented well. We added uni & were thankful that our main server explained the difference between the taste & textures of the west coast versus east coast uni (oursin) choices. The tempura roll with a sort of salmon tartare on top was out of this world - the kind of dish I would have eaten a second plate of. The hand roll served alongside was incredible too.

I forget all the components of the dessert. Overall it had a very beautiful fall feel to it. The apples & salted caramels were great. My only complaint would have been to have fewer flavors competing for attention by my palate. I like fewer flavors & allow the ones present to shine more brightly. But I am nitpicking.

PROS: great food, beautiful dining room, good staff.
CONS: I mean this as constructive criticism to the dining room manager. The service does not match the quality level of the food. Service was done a bit too fast with plates being brought the second after we finished one course. I hate being rushed through a tasting menu. I want to savor every flavor & relax. I wish they had printed a copy of the omakase menu & left it at the table if the wait staff is unable to describe all the nuances of the dish when presenting it to us. So many descriptions were left out. I also wish the server would pour less when refilling our glasses - but that is a personal preference.

I would & will gladly return to eat here.
