Display Allsushi(273) omakase(68) quality(58) qualite(44) fresh(37) chef(35) sake(34) sashimi(34) poisson(34)Although a bit expensive, the portions & the quality of the food makes up for the price. Their omakase comes with 3 appetisers, 15 pieces of sushi & a dessert for around 120$. The pieces of sushi were quite big & the cut of fishes were quite generous. I especially liked their Funny Maki because there was a great contrast in the temperature which made it so unique & delicious. I was surprised because I usually don't like fried sushi that much. As for the appetisers, I feel like the first two dishes were a bit too sour which overwhelmed the flavours of the ingredients but their octopus appetiser had a great balance of sweetness & saltiness which made it so wonderful. The quality of the ingredients is amazing, each slices were really fresh & I especially enioyed the fresh scallop sushi which had a great seafood sweetness to it. The service was superb. The waiters & waitresses were all extremely patient & professional, taking the time to explain each dish while they were serving it to the table. Even though the place was quite fancy with the minimalistic interior decors, I feel like the semi casual atmosphere fits the place extremely well & it was pretty easy to talk at our table until later at night when the restaurant was more crowded, I felt like we had to shout a bit to be heard.View more
Note : 1/5 Service : Les serveurs étaient chaleureux, patients & attentifs. View more
One of the best sushi places in Montreal hands down. Great quality of fish , excellent service & such affordable prices. I don't recommend the omakase but all their sushi is amazing. The freshness is unbeatable.View more
Went there to celebrate with my girlfriend totry the omakase the food was OKAY nothing incredible but not bad until we got to dessert. We forced ourself to finish it, the flavour were all over the place but not in a good way. In the end, it was good but I feel like it was just a bit better then fastfood sushi so clearly not worth the enormous prices going with the portions & flavour profiles..View more
I had a very good evening at Jun I. The food is really good & fresh. I had the omakase experience which is nice. The service is really good & the decor is neat.View more
We had a delicious & fun mean at Jun I. We loved the service, & the fish was very fresh. It was billed as the best omakase in Montreal &, while great, it is not. The hot & cold dishes were ok, but stand out. The sushi & sashimi were great but the maki roll we got was ok. Recommend trying it & loving it when you have the right expectations.View more
Finger licking good 🤳😊 Omakase expienre Fresh on point 👌🏼View more
Top sushi for quality & freshness. Definitely get a variety sashimi. The miso soup has such deep & delicious flavours. They also offer a wide variety of rolls. The one thing I wish this restaurant had was sushi made at & served at the bar, like true omakase style.View more
Excellent sushi place. They have a small, but meaningful menu. The restaurant is very lively & inviting. We had dinner on a Wed, starting at open, & by 7 pm, all the tables were full. Three primary things on the menu: - "omakase" (in quotes because it is table-side, not traditional, bar-side, one-bite at a time). Includes 4 hot dishes, & 15 nigiri, maki, sashimi, - only the 15 raw-fish option, - a-la-carte. We opted for the 15 raw-fish option "omakase" with a couple of add-ons. The candied salmon trout was amazing. Sushi were fresh & tasty, albeit no premium pieces (CAD 75 for 15 pieces is quite generous, & hard to get premium pieces), Service was fantastic. Recommend.View more
The food here is excellent. The omakase got us to taste a lot of different dishes, I recommend it. The service was also great, & we got great Sake suggestions throughout the night.View more
View more
As a group of seven, we ordered the omakase menu. The owner, Jun san, made us feel welcome from the very beginning. From the appetizers to the main sushi & desserts, everything was a delightful surprise. My companions repeatedly said that each item was the best Japanese food they had ever eaten. We had a great time here with thier food & service & were so happy with our choice. As I knew from before, he is the best chef & & definitely want to come again!View more
A very lovely sushi restaurant, where I would have to recommend at least doing the moriawase option. I did not try the omakase option, & maybe regret not doing so in hindsight. If deciding a la carte, do try the scallop gunkan & if possible the japanese mackerel (it was a unique offering during our visit). The establishment is pretty but small & relatively modest. Almost too small as you can hear a loud table quite easily. You may be taken aback by the simplicity of it all, including the disposable chopsticks for your use. Hiding behind the first impressions however are a warm towel to clean your hands, unique off-menu options, a knowledgeable & thoughtful server, & an amuse bouche that was a substantially sized gunkan sushi in our case. Be ready to pay upwards of $100 per person to leave satisfied, but also be ready to receive over-average sushi sizes. Each piece of sushi is on average 5 dollars with regards to the moriawase, but each is sized reasonably. I enjoyed the Jun Gin cocktail, sumashi soup appetizer, & the white chocolate/yuzu/fennel dessert. The latter was very unique, helped cut the fishiness left over on my plate, & frankly made my night. I hope to return here!View more
Had the Omakase. Sashimi truly melts in your mouth. Delicious & wonderful service. It was expensive but at least you get quality 🍣View more
The service is good, but the food is disappointing. The Omakase tasting menu is 90$ per person so I had high expectation, but turns out the food doesn't stand out from other normal sushi restaurants (price range around 30$ per person). What frustrated me most is the whole environment. As an expensive Japanese sushi restaurant with tasting menu, the chopsticks are disposable. I mean, can you imagine a steakhouse gives its customers plastic knife & fork? Also, it was super noisy in the back & the background music is just too loud, from Flo Rida's Low to Bon Jovi's It's My Life. I love all these music, but I just expected a more quiet & formal environment here. Overall, the food & environment just aren't worth the price. My suggestion is don't choose this restaurant for a date or a formal occasion, cuz it is super expensive & it won't meet your expectations.View more
The food is really good but the service was quite slow. It took 3h to finish omakase course. The server is really competent person so I think it is solely because of lack of staff.
My husband & I got the omakase for two. We enjoyed our time & food, but if we were to return in the future, I think we would order sushi off the regular menu. Most of the omakase dishes were good, but a few too many of them were just'okay' for our liking. Nonetheless, we are huge sushi fans & we enjoyed our time.View more
View more
Good, omakase menu was not too heavy, I wasn't overstuffed. Plates were complex with lots of textures & flavours. However, overall, there were no wow moments. Food was beautiful but not as tasty as it looked.
We got the omakase for two. I think the food was fine, the sushi itself being the best part. If we were to do it again we would probably only get sushi because we found that some of the other dishes slightly lacked seasoning. The evening started pretty quiet & quickly got busy & louder, but we were still able to enjoy the end of our meal. Service was efficient & professional though not particularly warm or inviting.View more
Extremely overpriced for the fare. Had the omakase for 2. We literally went for poutine afterwards because it was so little food. The portions on google where you see the plate of food, that isn't an individual serving, it was a shared plate for 2. Which is completely ridiculous for $110 per person. The nigiri sushi wasn't really much different from much cheaper restaurants.
The service was fantastic & attentative.
The fare is sourced somewhat locally, but i would have expected the price to reflect that, but they went the other way.
What an amazing food experience. Jun I, though a bit on the pricey side, was an excellent experience. We ordered the Omakase & Sushi Moriawase which was just the perfect amount of food to share between two people. The service was well paced, with our dining experience lasting just over two hours. Jun I is the perfect place to go on a dinner date with a loved one or simply go with friends to have a great night with amazing food. Highly recommend.View more
Excellente soirée. L'entrée de l'omakase était particulièrement memorable.
Excellent spot, omakase menu was delicious, well-balanced, & quite serious, portion-wise
Got the omakase (tasting menu) here. While the food was generally good & the value is unbeatable, I feel like the flavours were not very balanced for some of the dishes. The flavour profile here leans heavily towards sour & zesty. There's a lot of citrus/yuzu & balsamic sauces used. It worked for the early salads & appetizers, but got exhausting towards the middle & I couldn't wait for the sushi for a palate reprieve. My favourite non-sushi dish was the wagyu, which really stood out for its umami & perfectly cooked rareness, although the thick bunch of carrots felt a bit excessive. When the sushi arrived, it did not disappoint. There was a variety of sashimi, rolls & traditional sushi. All were amazing & probably worth the price of the omakase on their own. My favourite was probably the pair of fried makis! Service was good & started quickly but slowed down A LOT the dinner crowd poured in after 7. Come early if you want prompt service & their full attention.View more
My honest review as a Montreal tourist from Toronto:
- Omakase was amazing & would probably be in the Michelin guide, especially for the price so I would say it deserves a Bib Gourmand at the very least
- the service was inconsistent, we had a couple good servers that explained each item & would occasionally check on us & others where they explain everything in french quickly & walk away. We do not speak French so we didn't understand at all.
- the ambiance was weird because for a higher end sushi experience we expected a quieter Japanese style environment but it was bar lounge & social environment which is probably enjoyed by the locals. I would suggest to separate the Omakase experience to the a la carte. This would make the restaurant perfect
food was top tier, BUT the service on the other hand was terrible. this was my second time coming here & had booked for a birthday. we ended up getting the omakase menu & the duck breast & crusted fish were my favourites (besides the sushi assortment of course). though, the downside was that we had waited such a long time in between each shared course. we were seated in the restaurant for two & a half hours, which is i think is not ideal for a six-course meal. mind you, the restaurant flow was overall moderate. overall, i would only come back for the à la carte as it seems that everyone after us was getting their food five times faster.View more
