To wanxu Li: You chose to dine in & receive full table service, & you also chose not to leave a tip. In Montreal, tipping is a basic part of the dining culture. We cannot accept guests enjoying full service while completely ignoring this common practice.
Our restaurant takes pride in attentive service, fresh ingredients, & delicious food. We welcome guests from all over the world, but regardless of where someone comes from, basic respect & an understanding of local dining customs are expected.

January 2nd: A Reflection on Respect & Gratitude At the start of the New Year, I dined at Ichi-Bon Sushi & witnessed something that moved me to speak out. It was a busy mealtime, & the restaurant was bustling. Amid the activity, I noticed two elderly individuals, both in their 70s, tirelessly attending to customers. Later, I learned they were the owners. These two worked with smiles on their faces, providing attentive & thoughtful service-refilling drinks & patiently addressing every request without a single complaint. They clearly poured their hearts into ensuring every guest felt comfortable & cared for. However, one gentleman chose to leave no tip when settling the bill. While tipping is not mandatory in Canada, it is a basic acknowledgment of & gratitude for the hard work of service staff-especially for individuals like this elderly couple. They not only provided excellent service but also extended warmth, patience, & kindness. Yet, this gentleman's decision seemed to diminish their efforts, as though their hard work was insignificant. Perhaps he believed paying the bill was enough, but have you ever considered the physical & emotional toll on a couple in their 70s, working hard every day to meet the needs of their customers? Their tireless dedication surely deserves at least a small token of appreciation & respect. The few dollars saved might have felt negligible to him, but for this couple, it could have meant recognition for their labor & a small but meaningful source of encouragement. I hope this gentleman will reflect on his actions that day. In this world, we all need mutual respect & kindness. A tip is more than just money-it is a gesture of gratitude & support for those who work hard to serve us. In the future, wherever you go, I urge you to choose a kinder & more considerate approach toward those who serve you. I witnessed the entire incident, & this gentleman adamantly refused to leave a tip in any form. Let us remember that a little kindness goes a long way, & gratitude costs nothing but means everything.
Ichi-bon Sushi offers excellent sushi with attentive owners who focus on every detail. Their sushi is so fresh that you can even taste the warmth of the rice. If you're around Old Montreal, don't think twice about visiting this hidden gem. Also, the prices are very reasonable, much cheaper than most places in Montreal.
The server was very attentive & kind! The sushi combo was filling & tasty. A must go for well priced sushi near the old port. Will be back again! Thank you!
