Gibby's serves as a destination for prime cuts of beef and fresh seafood within a historic stone building defined by wood-burning fireplaces and dark wood accents. The menu focuses on dry-aged steaks that are trimmed on-site, alongside Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, and oysters harvested from cold waters. Traditional sides such as baked potatoes, pickles, and sourdough bread accompany the primary meat and fish courses. Patrons encounter a multi-room layout that maintains an atmosphere of seclusion and warmth through its thick stone walls and low ceilings. The culinary preparation emphasizes classic grilling techniques over open flames to achieve specific textures and flavor profiles. Every selection of seafood undergoes rigorous sourcing standards to ensure consistency across the entire menu. This establishment functions as a dedicated center for meat and aquatic offerings in a centralized urban environment.
Gibby's is widely celebrated as a quintessential Montreal steakhouse, cherished for its historic atmosphere, elegant decor, and traditional charm housed within a beautifully preserved centuries-old building. Many patrons praise the restaurant for its exceptional service, noting that staff often go above and beyond to create memorable experiences for birthdays and anniversaries. The menu is frequently lauded for its generous portions, high-quality steaks, signature Beef Wellington, and unique touches like fresh bread, pickles, and palate-cleansing sorbet. While some guests have noted inconsistencies in food preparation or service quality during busier times, the overall consensus among regular visitors and first-time guests alike highlights the establishment as a reliable and iconic destination for a classic fine dining experience in Old Montreal.
A restaurant with a wonderful old stone building & beautiful design. Very professional & friendly staff & very delicious food. The price is very reasonable for the excellent service & food & having a good time. 😍. & the best & good ending of our dinner was Gibbys chocolate, wow 😋😋😋
Was looking forward to my birthday dinner at Gibbys. Started with a rude hostess & moved to an indifferent waiter. Meal was very average, including dessert. Waiter didnt ask if our steaks were cooked to liking, had to ask for dessert menus. It had been a while & was excited to share Gibbys with my sons. Won't be back. A lot better places in Montreal to have a great steak dinner.
Wow! What an experience. So good. Steak cooked to perfection, waiter attentive & very knowledgeable about the wine. Surprised our table with a cake. Definitely would love to go back.
You're craving steak? This is the place. Definitely on the pricey side for what you pay. The service was a bit slow: waiter was not attentive (forgot what we ordered & forgot to bring steak knife while food is getting cold) but understandable given the massive place.
Gibbys proclaims "Experience the finest seafood, fresh plump chilled oysters, a large choice of the freshest fish & Gibbys' expertly aged delectable steaks, cooked to perfection." I have been to some of the finest steakhouses in North America (yes that is only my opinion) but they would include Bern's inTampa, Golden Steer in Las Vegas, Gibsons in Chicago, Charlie's in Orlando, Peter Luger in NYC, etc. Expectations were high. Ambiance did not disappoint. Selection was promising. Ordered the Gibby's cut. Looked perfect, but on 1st few bites it was obvious to me it was slightly overcooked. I would have managed, but before I could even draw attention to the waitress, the manager (his name is Adil) was at our table asking if everything was ok. I mentioned it was a bit more overcooked than I was used to & without hesitation or question he asked if he could replace it for me. I said it was fine. He insisted & said it was his responsibility to ensure they offered their best. Promptly replaced, it was perfect. No questions asked, no guilt involved, they made it right. To me, that separates the elite experiences from even the best. Attention to making the evening perfect is what Gibbys does exceptionally well. Enjoy the experience. Relish in the service. Highly recommended.
its always good to come eat here, also loved the one in Saint Sauveur especially in Winter. Everything was good even kids liked & ate some of the salad. Grilled salmon is a safe choice for kids. Carré D'agneau Grilled & Steak & Frites are also perfect. Crab cake & sautéed shrimps with garlic are awesome for appetizers/starters.
The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, & the ambiance was cozy & welcoming with a historic flare to it. The only complaint was that the fireplace was on & it was extremely warm. Apart from that it was exceptional!
We were at Gibbys for my mother's birthday. Our server Mourad was amazing, attentive, patient & always smiling. The included salads, baked potatoes, fresh bread & birthday cake were all delicious. The Beef Wellington & steaks were good. This wasn't our first time dining here & as usual the ambience was inviting & warm.
