Good place to go to enjoy what is supposed to be 5 star 5 course dining.
Food was good, not exceptional.
Staff was polite, not attentive.
The history of the repurposing of an old barn (so I was told) into a fine dining establishment was the best part. That & watching a bird eating butter from a nearby table.

Joli cadre, service bilingue souriant. Un peu cher mais l'entrée (une énorme salade) & un sorbet sont servis avant le plat. Les portions sont très copieuses.

Gibbys is a cool spot on old Montreal. The building has its charm & the space is appropriately elegant without being over the top. & to be fair, they include salads & sides with their mains which I guess makes you feel a bit better when it's time to pay. But the food while good, isn't really that great. Perhaps when I noticed that the ginormous pickles they give you with your bread & butter were a bloated mess, I should have reacted, sent them back. & so, caveat Emptor..

It all just worked. From the Negroni to the pickles to the clam chowder to the rib steak. Classic iceberg salad with blue cheese dressing. All enjoyed on a patio in front of a building from 1830. Our host/waiter - JP - set the scene: ask for him & you get class service. He even knows the mortar! You won't be disappointed. Thanks JP & the rest of the team.

My wife & I had an absolutely phenomenal experience here for my birthday dinner at Gibbys. Staff were all super friendly & accommodating to our 9 month old, our server Maxim (forgive me if I spelled wrong) was attentive & made perfect suggestions on food & beverages, & everyone had personality versus other cookie cutter fine dining establishments. This place exemplifies everything I look for in a place of recommend. Combining the quality of food & beverage, personal recommendations, & friendliness of the staff, this may have been the best meal I've ever had!
My only complaint is they didn't have a sweatshirt in my size for me to purchase on my way out 😂 15/10 establishment!
We absolutely will be back next time we are up in Montreal!

Everything you want in a steakhouse. Watch the chowder first bite..cayenne? Yes to the $33/glass merlot forward Bordeaux, yes to the burrata & yes to the Monte Carlos potato. I would go with the blue cheese salad next time after having both. I ordered medium but would opt for medium rare on the filet. Service was exceptional, atmosphere perfect.
