Great seafood selection, from fresh oysters to grilled octopus! The after 9pm table d'hôte promotion is really worth, & allows you to try the delicious food selection on the menu! The service was also amazing & you have to try the pasteis de nata!View more
Really great seafood. The cod cake & fish of the day were delicious & the pasteis for dessert were spot on. Service was attentive & our server was very knowledgable. All in all, would highly recommend!View more
This was my favorite place for a long time for fresh seafood & fine dining.
However my latest visit is anything but pleasant.
I visit on a Monday evening, the place is still relatively busy as they recently received a Michelin recommendation. The host sit me at the bar, when I ask if I can take the seat at the end she said she would save it for other reservations. I have no problem with that but the seats remain empty til I left.
It took a while before anyone greeted me & take my orders. I'm a simple person & since I visited here so many times before I already know what I wanted & placed my order quickly: include a pan seared dore sole as my main dish.
Now here is the problem, I got a fish with a ruptured gallbladder, which happens once a while & can make the flesh very biter, it's a common problem when cleaning the fish. I made a mistake of not sending it back right away, as on the top side it was not so notable. But when I got to the bottom part it's so biter as the flesh has soaked up the gallbladder juices, I have to stop.
The stuff noticed that & ask me if everything is ok. I said I don't think the fish is cleaned( as in by the fish man) properly. That's when they got really defensive & keep saying that why they want to clean (meaning deboning) the fish for the customer, for the customer. But I doubt that would change anything about a gallbladder juice soaked fish. & the two of them keep saying that I should let them to'clean the fish' for me just killed all appetite for me.
I don't know what have change but clearly not what I expecting from a Michelin recommendation Restaurant.View more
I usually have have the black cod, it's my go to dish but my friend had the Bouillabaisse & that blew me away!!!
Wow!!!! Full of seafood & the broth was little spicy & so flavorful.View more
We were visiting from Toronto to celebrate my mother's 82nd birthday & enjoyed her birthday dinner at Ferrerira. All the staff were most welcoming & made my mother's evening so special. We were fortunate to have a table by the kitchen & watched the chefs work their magic & appreciated their efforts in the fine details in preparing the dishes. We all had seafood & found the portions a good size but more importantly were fresh & delicious! The sardine & scallop ceviche apps should not be missed. The fresh grilled fish of the day was simple but so tasty & the bouillabaisse was cooked to perfection. Nicole, our server, was absolutely lovely! She was so kind to our family & provided dessert for our table. My mother was so touched by this gesture. We would like to thank the Ferreria team for going above & beyond to make my mother's Montreal birthday such a memorable one. Merci!View more
Ferreira stands as a true institution in Portuguese cuisine, where tradition & excellence merge to create an unforgettable dining experience. The menu showcases a masterful selection of dishes, each prepared with high-quality ingredients & a deep respect for authentic flavors, from impeccably fresh seafood to rich, comforting specialties. Complementing the exquisite plates is a stellar wine selection, thoughtfully curated to highlight Portugal's finest vintages.View more
My favourite restaurant in Montreal is the best seafood in town.View more
First time for me. Ferreira's reputation proceeded itself. In some ways the hype really left more room for disappointment. I was anything but disappointed. From door greeter to being walked to the back room where my party had already sat the first impression was top notch.
The table staff was top tier. The food was delicious across all courses. At a seafood place, I had rib-eye because I had yet to have a quality steak on my trip & this was one of the better ribeyes I have had in recent memory. Montréal knows how to cook beef.
I will be sure to revisit in future trips.View more
Yesterday we were at this establishment, the food was delicious but we took rice with seafood & lobster with us, when we got home we tasted the dishes but the rice was not cooked, the lobster was poorly cooked, it was impossible to eat because it was rubbery, in addition, the mussels were not fully cooked.View more
This is definitely a showcase restaurant for Portuguese seafood & cooking, from appetizers, main to desserts, it will brighten your day & will not disappoint. We went there as a party of three. We deliberately choose different items from the menu. We all decided to go back again for another time to have more.View more
I visited McGill University in early November of 2024. A couple of university professors took me to Ferreira for dinner as I told them earlier that I liked seafood. There was a lot of options even among seafood. I ordered a salmon dish. The others ordered a variety of dishes. The dishes were plentiful. Later, we ordered a sampler of desserts. All dishes were very tasty. Overall, it was a very good dinner.View more
Great seafood place downtown Montreal & amazing service.View more
If you are into great seafood this is the place to be. The staff is fantastic, very attentive & so nice. We tried thier seafood tower & it was freah & delicious. It is a very trendy place so they keep the music quite loud. Since I was going with older mother, was a bit too loud. But that is does not deter from this being a great place to go.View more
I had the pleasure of dining at Ferreira Cafe twice in four days, first for lunch & then for dinner. I have to tell you, if you are Montreal, this place is a must for at least a meal. The restaurant is elegant & gives a real "sense of occasion" without being stuffy or uptight. The staff is warm & helpful & is able to accommodate both French & English. I am so grateful that staff were extremely patient with my French, I'm still learning & need the practice! At time of writing, they still have the outdoor sitting, which looks very lovely but not my taste. The people looked very happy & it if decorated beautifully. & the food. Wowowowowow. At lunch we were told the specials & they were doing one of my favourite things as a special - salmon tartare. It was incredible. Probably the best salmon tartare I've ever had. The salmon was perfectly fresh, the dish was a perfectly balanced & seasoned & the intriguing garnishes were delightful. I will admit that everyone I spoke to for the rest of my time in Montreal had to listen to how excellent the salmon tartare was. I kept replaying in mind how very perfect it was. Our lunch waiter was extremely helpful with our wine selection - usually at lunch my dining partner & I would have white, but I've been having a palette issue & lost my taste for the more acidic whites. Our waiter suggested a rose that was the perfect companion to my meal & I greatly enjoyed it. Now for our dinner. After that perfect lunch I had a lot of confidence dinner would also be incredible. & it was! We took a dear friend to dinner & he was thrilled with every moment of dinner. We were so lucky & felt that we were seated at the best table in the house. My husband & friend indulged in a perfectly made Vesper & perfectly made Martini. I had a lovely glass of wine. None of us opted for the daily specials, but it was a very difficult decision. They all sounded so good, so did the menu! Our appetizers were all tasty, beautiful & so good to eat. Our friend marveled at the beauty of the restaurant & how amazing our table was. I have to make special mention of the sommelier, he was so very helpful in assisting us finding a white that was complimentary to all our mains & also one that I greatly enjoyed. I realize that losing the love of more acidic whites is a problem, & it was handled by the sommelier beautifully, thank you again. The portions were incredible & I don't mind telling you I couldn't finish mine. Our meals were presented beautifully - I had the bouillabaisse & it was presented in a Le Creuset in one of their intriguing shades of blue. My husband was also served his main in a Le Creuset, in a different share of blue! I'm trying to tell you, if you are Montreal or plan on being in Montreal, this place is a must for people who love fish & seafood. I'm already looking forward to the next time we are in Montreal & able to have a meal here. For me, it's lunchtime. I'll be thinking about the salmon tartare...View more
The seafood tower was amazing - the mussels were today's winner. Trust your (well-dressed) clever server to recommend an appropriate wine to accompany your meal. A must for serious foodies.View more
The Chantier sur Peel was a well balanced cocktail. Octopus appetizer was perfect, great texture & mix of flavours. Chocolate mousse was a delicious mix of caramel & chocolatey textures. Both those dishes were beautifully presented too. I regret that my phone was getting repaired so I couldn't snap a shot. The problem was the seafood rice casserole. Portions were definitely generous but the flavour just wasn't there. I appreciate the slight spice but for the most part it was just bland & mushy. I ordered it because it was supposed to have more of a bisque flavour. I'm assuming adding the giant full crustacean & serving it in a pot was to give it a homey feel but the crustacean flesh (scampi maybe?) was kinda gross, & the dish should have had some sort of vegetable or side to add a bit of texture. Service was very attentive & for the most part knowledgable, but couldn't describe the tartare for some reason saying simply that it was salmon & creamy...like that's every salmon tartare...does it have shallots, sesame, capers? I wouldn't mind if she asked someone else for more detail but such a vague response wasn't helpful. Once again she was perfect in every other aspect & deserves her 5 stars. Pretty decor, but the music was basically elevator music, surprised they wouldn't go for something more upbeat & Mediterranean.View more
Food: Exceptionally fresh seafood. We ordered: 1) Seafood Platter: if you have two or more diners, don't second guess. Just get it. 2) Roasted Sardines: one of our favorite dishes of the night. 3) Daily Catch: Incredible sea bream with an amazing chickpea salad & veggies. Everything perfectly cooked & seasoned. 4) Bouillabaisse: Highlight of the night. A must-try dish. Service: Top notch. Attentive but not overbearing despite the fact that it was super super busy even on a Monday night. Ambiance: We were seated in a quieter corner in the back & it was very nice.View more
The name "cafe" in the restaurant, I didn't expect to be $$$. It was near the hotel we were staying, so we were able to get reservations. It was very good but it expensive! Thank goodness I was celebrating my birthday! So it kinda justifies the splurge. Getting 4 stars bc it was more expensive than I expected. Service was great, the rice seafood casserole n risotto comes in a pot served nice n hot. The seafood bouillabaisse was good. The giant shrimp was undercooked. I know seafood is expensive. But wow! I almost fainted when I saw the bill! CA$400 w tip. The pastel the Nata was ok, was not crispy as the ones I had in Lisbon, $11 for 2? Not worth it. Skip it. Since it was my birthday I hit a nice candle w my dessert. So nice! I forgot my phone so I didn't get to take pics. So my sis send them to me. Also the lighting was dark so the foid pics didn't come out good.View more
Really nice & fresh seafood. Black cod is superb. Seafood rice casserole is well executed. Seating is comfy. A busy place, so reservation is a must. Would recommend.View more
It was our second time at Ferreira with the first time being wonderful. We decided to go for our wedding anniversary while on a trip to Montreal. What a deception, the food was subpar for a restaurant that is that expensive. We ordered the seafood tower, the lobster & smoked fish were dry. The wine list was great & the wine very good (good job to the Somelier). After the tower, I really felt bad & did not really want to eat anything else. They should also update the restautant.View more
Highly recommend reservation. One of the best Portuguese seafood restaurants. Every dish was cooked to perfection, wished I could have tried every dish on the menu.View more
Just an update as I frequent Ferreira whenever I can. I was having some important friends visiting Montreal from the US & I wanted to make a strong impression (5 adults 3 children). Ferreira never disappoints. From the amazing attentive service, seafood tower, to the Tomahawk steaks - OUTSTANDING. We've always had an amazing experience here & is in my opinion one of the top tables in all of Montreal, dare I saw North Ameica (& I travel A LOT). Wine selection from the sommelier was perfect & helped us select a wide variety of wines from Portugal. Fantastic experience for the money. Worth every dollar. Love love love Ferreira. Keep up the great work.View more
It was a very busy Friday night when we arrived. Shortly after we got seated, our waitress Nicole kindly went over their daily specials & answered our questions with patience since it was our first visit there. She was knowledgeable, attentive & pleasant, so great first impression! We ordered a half dozen oysters, fish & seafood bouillabaisse & seafood rice casserole, with a tiger prawn for each. The texture & flavors are simply perfect & original, without being overpowered by the sauce. We were absolutely amazed by the quality & quantity of both dishes! Needless to say, we finished everything in the pot & loved every bite & wrapped up the night with a lovely dessert!View more
service is really good. Duck & seafood soup is niceView more
Delightfully surprised by this restaurant close to our hotel in downtown Montreal. We enjoyed the seafood platter & wine in their outdoor patio before heading back home. The perfect ending to our anniversary trip!View more
Rice & fish dish was absolutely excellent. Recommended Portuguese wine Aldeia just ok & not a $22 4 ounce wine. Fish & potatoes soup was just ok. The monk fish is a nice touch. They should serve it with a piece of bread. Fried app Octopus very well done. Went with my wife & two daughters. Ordered adult meals. My 13 year old was offered a seafood linguini. It arrived extremely spicy & inedible. She took 2 bites & stopped eating. I tried it & it was too spicey for me. Our kids are accustomed to spices & eat adult dishes. After some time they check in we asked for the dish without spice. We would have appreciated knowing it was an arrabiata when ordering in the first place. He made another & charged $45 for both the one thrown away & the second which she did enjoy. $90 dollar linguini with shrimp & scallops. It took away from an otherwise good experience. I don't mind paying $460 for 2 adults & 2 kids if we eat the food & enjoy it, but the wine & pasta was a mishap. We felt like the manager should have used better judgment. Not sure if we will go back.View more
The food was really good, especially the Rice with seafood & lobster as well as rice with duck. Octopus was super delicious. Salmon tartare needs more flavor such as soy sauce, for example, & more seasoning. Restaurants are always crowded during lunch break time . Some music will add a nice atmosphere to the place.View more
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dining at the Ferreira Cafe was an exquisite culinary experience from start to finish. The moment we stepped into the beautifully decorated establishment, we were greeted with warm & attentive service that set the tone for the evening. The seafood offerings were truly exceptional, with the blackened cod standing out as a masterpiece of flavor & presentation. Each bite was a delightful blend of perfectly balanced spices & melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, showcasing the chef's impeccable skill & passion for Portuguese cuisine. The ambiance of the Ferreira Cafe is equally impressive, combining sophisticated decor with a cozy & inviting atmosphere that made our dining experience truly memorable. The attention to detail in both the food & the surroundings is evident, creating a perfect harmony that elevates the entire dining experience. For anyone seeking an outstanding meal in an elegant setting, I highly recommend the Ferreira Cafe. It is a gem that promises an unforgettable culinary journey. We will undoubtedly be returning to savor more of their delectable dishes.View more
Not so familiar with Portuguese food, but I think that was a plus for us, everything we tried was a bit unexpected in addition to being expertly prepared & delicious. We had a lovely scallop ceviche that was nuanced, not the lime bomb you often get (which I also like!) Fish & seafood is the reason to come, but the carnivores will be pleased with the ribeye & other trad meat dishes. The bar was happening, the cocktails & mocktails were fun & tasty. Our server was a total pro. All around great dining experience.View more
Had dinner here last night on recommendations from a friend. Decor is awesome, very inviting. Waiter was knowledgeable & super helpful. Menu is Portuguese seafood oriented & small but many specials greatly expanded it. Wine list is impressive although not many bottles below $100. Had two restaurant standards: the black cod in port reduction & the bouillabaisse, both outstanding, accompanied by a slightly spicy dry Douro white wine. Pastais de nata for dessert that was better than what we found in Lisbon. Overall outstanding!View more
