Escondite Cerveceria de Barrio est un restaurant mexicain qui sert des produits mexicains et des cocktails de tequila faits maison. Escondite Cerveceria de Barrio is a Mexican restaurant that serves Mexican goodies and house crafted tequila cocktails.
Escondite comes across as a trendy, flavorful Mexican spot with a lively, eclectic vibe and a prime location in Montreal's Old Port. The tacos draw praise for flavor and variety, with crowd favorites like shrimp and Gobernador noted, but portions are often small and prices can feel high for what is served. The drinks and margaritas are frequently cited as well balanced and creative, with some standout bites like guacamole and queso fundido pairing well with the menu. Service quality is mixed; some experiences are fast, friendly, and attentive, while others are slower, less consistent, or rushed during busy times, and staff attitude can noticeably affect the mood. The atmosphere is repeatedly described as stylish and cozy, with colorful decor and a terrace that adds to the appeal for a night out or a casual bite. A few reviews caution about ceviche or certain dishes and mention dryness or inconsistent flavor, while other dishes are praised as delicious. Overall, Escondite seems worth a visit for the tacos and drinks and the overall vibe, with the caveat that portion sizes and value can vary with timing and service.
If you're in the Old Port of Montreal & craving some fun, vibrant Mexican food with a creative twist, Escondite Vieux-Port is definitely worth checking out.
We stumbled upon this spot while wandering the cobblestone streets & were drawn in by the playful vibe, colorful decor, & upbeat music. The interior is eclectic & cozy, with Day of the Dead artwork, quirky details, & a lively but chill ambiance that makes it feel like a hidden gem.
Now to the food - overall, it was very good, with a few standout hits & a couple of misses depending on your palate. The tacos are the star of the show. We tried a variety (the Gobernador, Pollo Frito, & Camaron), & each one had its own distinct flavor & presentation. The shrimp tacos were my personal favorite - crispy, fresh, & packed with flavor.
The guacamole & chips were solid - not mind-blowing, but fresh & satisfying. We also ordered the queso fundido, which was ooey-gooey indulgence, especially when paired with the chips. The Mexican street corn (elotes) was delicious & charred just right.
Drinks-wise, the cocktail menu is creative, & the margaritas are well-balanced with a little flair. Great spot for a round of drinks with friends or a date night.
Service was friendly but could've been a bit more attentive. It got busy during peak hours, so there were some small delays in checking in & getting the bill, but nothing major.
Prices are fair for the area, especially given the quality & portion size. Definitely on the trendier side, but not overly pretentious.
All in all, Escondite Vieux-Port is a fun & flavorful stop in Old Montreal - a cool vibe, bold flavors, & a solid addition to the Montreal taco scene. Would definitely return to try more of the menu!

Pleasant servers. Atmosphere nice. Water on the table was too warm to drink. I had coke, excellent, my dinner companions had mojitos & a margarita . The margarita got sent back it was so bad. Mojitos were drinkable but not enjoyable . No one liked the food. It lacked flavour & eye appeal. Sadly will not return to this location.
Stopped by for a cocktail on a Friday. Ended up staying longer & eating wonderful entrees. The young man at the bar was extremely polite & made the best margaritas in Montreal. Will go again for sure.
I absolutely love this place. The food is amazing, the best margaritas ever. I recommend the tostadas & the chapiflor ( like general tao cauliflower wings)
Don't mind my username, don't know how to change it. Tacos were flavourless, dry, & cold. Guacamole was unseasoned (needed both salt & lime). Paloma just tasted like a margarita. Super sour, no simple syrup, no idea if they put grapefruit in it. Food came before the drinks too, & in piecemeal over the course of the night after we sent the cold tacos back. Not sure how this place has a 4.3 rating.

I attended a private party here with about 60 people. The food was good! I really loved their tacos & ceviche. The decor was incredible. Every time I looked up I saw something else I wanted to photograph. The only constructive feedback I'd give is that I wish their guac was seasoned (herbs & salt) a bit more. Their fish tacos & medianoche margaritas are beautiful.
Service was top notch! I got my food & drinks within 2 minutes of ordering them. The margarita media noche was delicious! I also loved their chips & guac. The bartender was extremely friendly. I'll definitely be back!
Beautiful decor, delicious food & pitchers of margaritas, our server Aldo was great But definitely NOT somewhere to go for a loud party atmosphere as we were shushed a number of times & even told they needed the table (which was clearly a lie as half the place was empty & our reservation did not have a time limit), so we left pretty early. When 6 late 40 year old women cause them trouble you know they need to lighten up!

We walked by & heard a good crowd with Latin music & stopped in. We just meant to stay for a drink but after having some guacamole & margaritas we stayed for tacos. Almost like being in Mexico & Otis was a great bartender. Highly recommend the Media Noche margarita. Muchas gracias Otis!
We took the outside seating on a warm September afternoon. Service was a little overworked, but adequate. Started drinks with a Margarita & a Dos Equis on tap. We ordered tacos & quesadilla.
The tacos were Al Pastor (pork) & Barbacoa (lamb). Everything was good. Prices were OK. No complaints, but I felt it could have been better. I have been to the Escondite in Verdun & it was great. We really enjoyed it. For that reason, I only give one star.
