Escondite Cerveceria de Barrio est un restaurant mexicain qui sert des produits mexicains et des cocktails de tequila faits maison. Escondite Cerveceria de Barrio is a Mexican restaurant that serves Mexican goodies and house crafted tequila cocktails.
Escondite comes across as a trendy, flavorful Mexican spot with a lively, eclectic vibe and a prime location in Montreal's Old Port. The tacos draw praise for flavor and variety, with crowd favorites like shrimp and Gobernador noted, but portions are often small and prices can feel high for what is served. The drinks and margaritas are frequently cited as well balanced and creative, with some standout bites like guacamole and queso fundido pairing well with the menu. Service quality is mixed; some experiences are fast, friendly, and attentive, while others are slower, less consistent, or rushed during busy times, and staff attitude can noticeably affect the mood. The atmosphere is repeatedly described as stylish and cozy, with colorful decor and a terrace that adds to the appeal for a night out or a casual bite. A few reviews caution about ceviche or certain dishes and mention dryness or inconsistent flavor, while other dishes are praised as delicious. Overall, Escondite seems worth a visit for the tacos and drinks and the overall vibe, with the caveat that portion sizes and value can vary with timing and service.
Wow, I this place is a scam. This is disgraceful 20$ for 2 tacos that are genuinely half the size of my hand. Wouldn't recommend genuinely appalled & so ridiculously frustrated that this is 20$ while the food is decent NEVER COME HERE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR any REMOTE VALUE. Maximum cost for this tacos should be 12$. If you are hungry & looking to eat you are easily spending over 100$ here.

Fun little Mexican spot in Old Montreal. We had a quick taco lunch while exploring the area. Service was very good, friendly & attentive. Food was quite yummy! Decor was very cool!
The vibe is nice & the decor is cool. Unfortunately, our waiter didn't seem friendly from the moment we walked in, which set the tone for the service. The chips were really good, & the food came out fast, but the tacos were pretty small. Overall, it's an okay spot - I'd probably come back mainly because of the location.
We loved the Baja Tacos here! We were looking for a Mexican restaurant after coming back late in Montreal from Quebec City. The kitchen was about to close in 5 minutes, but Daniel, our server, accommodated us still. The tacos were amazing.
Great food! Great atmosphere! Latin music!! Nice location! Affordable prices. We were served by Mathis a nice young man who was always proactive & took care of us well. I totally recommend this place. We ordered tacos & guacamole; all was delicious.
The service was amazing- our server was so nice & enthusiastic & gave great recommendations. The food was delicious- particularly fantastic cornbread & delicious tacos. I had one of the best mojitos I've ever had. Their churros for dessert were also incredible! The patio also had a lovely atmosphere. 100% would go again & would certainly recommend to others!

The food was honestly a bit dry & mid, the place was packed for sure & the setting was probably more appropriate for friends/colleagues night out than for enjoying a meal. The hostess had multiple jobs which caused it to take about 15 mins to be able to take our order, between server, waitress, & hostess of the place, despite her good attitude. Finally, the tacos are very small, yet come out to over $6 a piece. All in all, would not recommend.
If you're in the Old Port of Montreal & craving some fun, vibrant Mexican food with a creative twist, Escondite Vieux-Port is definitely worth checking out.
We stumbled upon this spot while wandering the cobblestone streets & were drawn in by the playful vibe, colorful decor, & upbeat music. The interior is eclectic & cozy, with Day of the Dead artwork, quirky details, & a lively but chill ambiance that makes it feel like a hidden gem.
Now to the food - overall, it was very good, with a few standout hits & a couple of misses depending on your palate. The tacos are the star of the show. We tried a variety (the Gobernador, Pollo Frito, & Camaron), & each one had its own distinct flavor & presentation. The shrimp tacos were my personal favorite - crispy, fresh, & packed with flavor.
The guacamole & chips were solid - not mind-blowing, but fresh & satisfying. We also ordered the queso fundido, which was ooey-gooey indulgence, especially when paired with the chips. The Mexican street corn (elotes) was delicious & charred just right.
Drinks-wise, the cocktail menu is creative, & the margaritas are well-balanced with a little flair. Great spot for a round of drinks with friends or a date night.
Service was friendly but could've been a bit more attentive. It got busy during peak hours, so there were some small delays in checking in & getting the bill, but nothing major.
Prices are fair for the area, especially given the quality & portion size. Definitely on the trendier side, but not overly pretentious.
All in all, Escondite Vieux-Port is a fun & flavorful stop in Old Montreal - a cool vibe, bold flavors, & a solid addition to the Montreal taco scene. Would definitely return to try more of the menu!

The restaurant is very nice on the inside & our server Diego was incredibly helpful & kind. He was the only good thing about this experience. The taco portions were ridiculously small (however small you think, make it smaller), all the food tasted frozen & was not fresh. Thank you so much Diego for the exceptional service & being so kind despite the awful food. If you are reading this, turn around before it's too late.
I wouldn't recommend this place. My wife & I waited for almost 30min to get an order of tacos & tostadas. I don't know if they went to fetch Chicken, took so so long. Also, it's very expensive for the qty they serve.
The place is very disorganized & the staff seemed overwhelmed. The wireless credit card machines were not working for quite a while with no apologies or explanation. The tacos are very small but the lamb was good.
The setting outside is very nice with beautiful hanging baskets
I came here with a friend who was recently broken up with. The staff were so supportive but especially Mathis, the Big Banana Bandit. He almost stole two bananas just for my friend. The lengths these bartenders go for their clients!
Had the steak tacos & it was very yummy. Don't bring a banana if you don't want the bartenders to steal em.
