About

Emeraude de Bangkok offers a comprehensive exploration of Southeast Asian and Szechuan traditions through a menu defined by bold aromatics and precise heat levels. Signature preparations feature fresh basil, lemongrass, and galangal integrated into complex curries that balance sweetness with savory depth. The kitchen utilizes traditional wok techniques to develop deep char on proteins while maintaining the crisp integrity of seasonal vegetables. Diners encounter a spectrum of flavors ranging from the bright, citrusy acidity of Thai classics to the tongue-numbing intensity of Szechuan peppercorns in spicy stir-fry dishes. The interior design prioritizes functional efficiency, creating an environment focused entirely on the rapid delivery of high-volume, flavor-forward dishes. This establishment maintains consistency by adhering to rigorous ingredient sourcing standards that define the core profile of every served plate.

Review Summary

Emeraude de Bangkok offers a mixed dining experience that draws both praise and criticism from its patrons. Many guests appreciate the fresh, flavorful Thai dishes, particularly the curries and dumplings, and enjoy the convenience of being able to bring their own wine. While some diners consistently find the service efficient and the atmosphere pleasant, others report significant inconsistencies, noting issues with long wait times, food temperature, smaller portion sizes, and occasionally brusque or inattentive staff. The restaurant is frequently busy, which can lead to a noisy environment and strain the kitchen, especially on holidays. Overall, opinions remain divided between those who consider it a reliable neighborhood gem and those who feel the quality and service have declined, making it a hit or miss destination for those seeking authentic Thai cuisine.

As you read many of my other reviews you will see that I rarely dislike Asian restaurants. Well, sorry to say, even though this place was highly recommended. I tend not to agree.
When we entered the restaurant, it was full. Usually when a restaurant is so busy the food is really good. Right?
Maybe I'm too picky & used to eating flavor packed food.
We ordered the Combo Build Your Way menu.
Included are 2 soups, 2 appetizers, 2 main dishes, 1 vegetable & 2 steamed rice. What a great deal.
We ordered 2 Hot & Sour soups which did not come to our table hot, so both were returned. Once they came back they were a bit warmer but still not hot. If you can get it hot, the soup was very tasty & not spicy.
For our appetizers we ordered the Peanut Butter Dumplings & Fried Calamari. The dumplings were delicious, I wanted more, but the Calamari was overly battered & greasy.
Our mains were Orange Beef & a Red Curry Chicken & the vegetable dish was the Basil Tofu with Mixed Vegetables.
The beef was tender but heavily batter in a sweet sticky sauce but no orange flavor & not spicy. There were 2 tiny slivers of orange peel in the sauce.
The Basil Tofu vegetables were tasteless but did contain a very nice variety of veggies. It needed a kick. It was supposed to be spicy but it was not at all.
The Red Curry Chicken, onbtje other hand, was very flavorful & a bit spicy. The Curry with coconut milk helped enhance the flavor & give it a bit of kick. Very good.
All in all, if the food would have been hotter instead of just warm, it may have been more enjoyable. I don't appreciate going to any restaurant & having to complain & return the food. Yes, sure it was a Saturday night, & they were busy, but really. Staff was sufficient but they didn't even approach us & ask if all was ok.
Would I recommend this place? No
Will I go back? Probably not.

Just found out of this hidden gem in Dorval. 15 minutes from my house. Good service. Had the special for 2. Won Ton soup, Peanut Butter Dumplings, General Tao chicken, sauted vegetables & rice. You can bring your own wine. Easy to park. I will definitely return.

We have eaten here many times & have always enjoyed the food. On New Year's eve we made a reservation for 4 at 6:30. Our table was ready when we arrived & we were served our soup & appetizers & then we waited & waited for our main course. At 8:30 (2 hours after our arrival) we began to ask when we might expect to receive our main dishes. We were told that it was very busy & they were trying to serve the customers in the dining area as well as the take out. Shortly after that we said we would pay for what we had eaten & would be leaving. At 8:45 they began to serve our main meal. First, came the rice & vegetables & the plate of vegetables was about half the size we had in the past. By the time the meat portion of the meal arrived, we had either finished the vegetables or they were no longer warm. While we understand that it was a very busy evening, it probably would have been better if they had communicated with us the delay & expectations instead of us having to ask. As well, knowing that it is one of their busiest evenings, they might have considered hiring more staff or reducing the take out orders as it appeared they were struggling to handle both. On our way out another customer was leaving & he was complaining about the service as his experience was similar to ours. Very disappointing &, in all, it was a memorable evening but for all the wrong reasons.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. My chicken in peanut sauce was bland. Service was very slow. Be prepared to wait close to an hour for your main course. A small bowl of rice is not included. Someone at our table was charged $15 for a small portion of sautéed vegetables. I won't be going back.

Average asian style eatery. Service was slow, but it was a busy Saturday evening. $15 for just a plate of sautéed vegetables is too much. There is vast competition in this type of cuisine. I'm not in a rush to return here anytime soon. We didn't feel that we got bang for our buck.
