We chose this restaurant for our wedding anniversary based on its reviews, but unfortunately it didn't live up to them...
I ordered the Carbonara Di Spaghettini & found maybe two or three small pieces of pancetta in the entire dish (see the attached photo). I dug through the pasta looking for more. I would have flagged it to our server, but she didn't check on us until we'd nearly finished eating.
One smaller thing: for a restaurant billed as Italian, the soundtrack was American rock, which made the room feel like a different place than the menu suggested. Very weird.
We'd suggest looking elsewhere for a nice Italian dinner.
The entire area around the restaurant is absolutely stunning with old French style architecture. The Italian food we had here for delicious & completely surpassed our expectations. We got a steak, which was the highlight for us. The pastas were great except maybe the carbonara (wasn't salty enough). The burrata was one of the best parts of the meal. Our server, she was so friendly & was a montreal local. She was so patient with our group of 10.
A delightful Italian trattoria in the center of Montreal's charming Old Town. It is tough to get a reservation, which is a good thing. So, we dined at the bar, waited on by the hospitable chief bartender. I selected ragu pasta, my wife really enjoyed her gnocchi. Tiramissu was to die for.
Non solo se si ha nostalgia di casa! È davvero ottimo, materie prime fresche e cucina che mantiene il sapore autentico del cibo senza'scimmiottare' la cucina italiana. Consigliato vivamente!
Another brilliant evening of delicious innovative Italian cuisine with high vibe music & memorable cocktails with warm & attentive service. 10 out of 10!
Authentic Italian food at its finest!
Service was impeccable,European vibe when you walk in, very friendly staff & helpful, Bartender was top notch! Knows how to make a solid drink that leaves you with a smile!!
The food was out of this world, can't wait to go back there again!
Great Memories!
Really incredible food & dessert. I'm a New Yorker who visits an Italian restaurant every other week because that's New York, but this was exceptional. Salad was a highlight. Tortellini with sausage sauce was incredible. Limoncello strawberry panna cotta on a hot day was such a fresh treat to close out the meal. We sat at the bar & our server was so kind & attentive too. Highly recommend.
The service at Marcella was disappointing from the moment we walked in. We had to wait 5 minutes just for a server to show up & seat us. While our appetizer salad did arrive quickly after ordering, everything fell apart afterward. We waited 45 minutes for our mains (Carbonara di Spaghettini & Ravioli Cacio e Pepe) while watching every other table around us get served.
When we finally had to flag someone down to ask about our food, the plates were brought out immediately, but the quality was shockingly bad. The $31 Ravioli was totally average, 6-7 pieces, bland nothing out of regular, but the Carbonara was unacceptable. It arrived cold & completely tasteless. Instead of a proper emulsion of egg, guanciale, & pecorino romano, they lazily dropped a raw egg yolk on top to make it look'fancy.' Anyone who knows Italian food knows that is not a real carbonara.
To their credit, when we complained, they offered to change the plate & removed the carbonara from the bill. However, we still ended up paying $92 CAD for just two drinks, one salad, & one mediocre pasta dish. For a well-located restaurant at this price point, the food & kitchen management need to be vastly better. Very disappointed.
