matcha(13) melon(9) pastry(8) curry(8) coffee(7) pastries(7) yuzu(7) patisserie(7) sweet(5) miso(5) japanese(5) flavour(4)we ordered everything on the menu & everything was INCREDIBLE! we missed the sandwiches, but got 6 different baked goods. blown away by every singe one! ate most of them too fast to get photos. the owner was super warm & friendly, she was quite amused by us going back for multiple rounds. definitely will be going back (many many times).
Purchased some filter coffee & 4 pastries
The pour-over coffee was a darker roast than my preference, but the delicacy & care taken in it's making won me over. The coffee had a complex & subtle flavour I enjoyed that I find uncharacteristic of roasts of that darkness.
The confectionaries were all excellently crafted.
Matcha Melon Pan had delicious, rich jam that paired well with the bitterness of the matcha crust. A stand out for me.
The Cannelle-Anko was tender, & red bean flavour was delicate.
The Cardamom-Miso confectionary was subtle & well balanced.
The chocolate yuzu was tasty - the yuzu flavor was very forward; for me, it slightly overpowered the chocolate. Still, the pastry was delicious.
The 4 items & 2 coffees came to around $25 CAD. The service was great & the atmosphere was quiet. This was around 11:00am, so everything may be even better if they are fresh, earlier in the morning.
Superbe pâtisserie japonaise, on y trouve de délicieuses douceurs, sucrées & salées! Je recommande fortement le curry pan 😋
Cozy place run by a wonderful couple - pastries with a Japanese twist are delicious & original. The curry pastry stuffed with ground meat makes for a filling meal. The sesame & mango babka is to die for ♥?
Really impressive place. I took a black sesame cookie & a coffee. Both were excellent, & I was impressed that the coffee was prepared with so much care… a nice touch for sure. My friends took a bit of everything else (shrimp sandwich, yuzu & chocolate brioche) & we enjoyed everything. A unique & calm experience - although I can imagine it must get quite crowded when busy.
Well that was easily the best curry pan I've ever had!
The matcha melon pan is also great & there's always some sort of weekly(?) special to try. Yum!
Very cute Japanese bakery in Le Plateau! Staff is very friendly & cinnamon brioche was delicious. We will come back to try the matcha melon pan. One thing to note, store is small with limited seating.
rien a dire sur les produits qui sont tres bien , les saveurs exemplaires, les portions généreuses, j aimerais juste plus de variété & surtout retrouver les excellents pudding japonais au caramel, a bientôt
The buns are so soft & fluffy. The burger was very flavorful. You can taste each layer, the salad, adds some texture & the sauce is great! It was so good, I finished it in a blink of eye, so I also got their stuffed melon pan, which is super yummy too. I wish I lived closer, so I could go often!
They staff are friendly, nice & respectful too!
So glad they were able to finally reopen. Stopped by at 9:30 on a Saturday morning; zero wait. The owners are so nice, & everything is so delicious. I'm not sure I can pick a favorite - miso cinnamon or chocolate yuzu. Or the curry puff pastry? All perfection
Edit: November 01 - they are back!!
They are temporary closed due to a fire! Their instagram says they will return though. :)
The Comete bake shop on Montreal's rue Fabre in the Plateau used to offer a superb selection of Japanese baked goods. Unfortunately, the bakery is still closed undergoing renovation after a disastrous fire. A very limited selection of Comete's products is available daily from the Kyoto florists on Avenue Mont-Royal half a block beyond Papineau. I honestly wish that Comete would reopen soon & again regale us with its full range of delicious products.
Easily the best melon pan I've had in Montreal. Everything else was good but the melon pan was a stand out.
A wonderful little bakery operated by a charming couple & serving original creations. Our favorites are the curry pan, croquet, cardamom & cinnamon pastries, & everything containing matcha. The yuzu juice is amazing. Weekends are extremely busy, so come early or on weekdays.
