I've been to Comète twice & both times the staff were lovely & welcoming. Also appreciate the open kitchen concept & watching them bake.
I love the texture of the buns: soft with a bit of bite & chew. The cookies were my preferred texture of slight crunchy rim with a moist & crumbly centre. All the flavours are more pronounced than what is usually expected of Japanese flavoured pastries that can be too subtle sometimes. It's also not overtly sweet.
I shared a hand poured coffee (on special during weekdays when you buy a dessert) which was smooth & not too bitter. My mom who never drinks black coffee loved it black.
My only critique is the yuzu chocolate bun, the bun itself was little dry.
Highly recommend going early if you want to try one of their viennoiserie as they sell out quick!
Montreal is lucky to have this Japanese bakery. The pastries & the filtered coffee(!) are delicious , & the owners are really lovely.
Cozy place run by a wonderful couple - pastries with a Japanese twist are delicious & original. The curry pastry stuffed with ground meat makes for a filling meal. The sesame & mango babka is to die for ♥?
Very cute Japanese bakery in Le Plateau! Staff is very friendly & cinnamon brioche was delicious. We will come back to try the matcha melon pan. One thing to note, store is small with limited seating.
The Comete bake shop on Montreal's rue Fabre in the Plateau used to offer a superb selection of Japanese baked goods. Unfortunately, the bakery is still closed undergoing renovation after a disastrous fire. A very limited selection of Comete's products is available daily from the Kyoto florists on Avenue Mont-Royal half a block beyond Papineau. I honestly wish that Comete would reopen soon & again regale us with its full range of delicious products.
It's an amazing bakery with actual Japanese pastries & breads. I recommend it to anyone & especially those who would want actual Japanese baked goods. The staff are super nice. For now I recommend coming early as they usually run out of items & will close the store early.
