Review Summary

Comète BAKE SHOP is widely celebrated as a cozy, hidden gem in the Plateau, known for its high-quality, authentic Japanese-inspired sweet and savoury pastries. Customers consistently praise the artistry, textures, and thoughtful preparation behind items like the matcha melon pan, curry pan, and cardamom miso creations, often noting that the products are perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The warm, friendly service and the open kitchen concept contribute to a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere that many describe as a unique Montreal experience. While the space is small and limited in seating, making it primarily a takeout destination, the popularity of the shop means that its fresh, handmade goods often sell out quickly, so early arrival is highly recommended by those who consider it a must-visit ritual.

This GEM of a bakery sells authentic japanese pastries, we have been going every saturday since its opening. They come up with brand new dessert pastries every single week, we are always so excited to try them. The savoury ones are a must try, we never get tired of the croquette pain, friend shrimp pain & curry pain. ✨Reminds me of my childhood in tokyo. love lovee the staff always greeting us with a smile too😊

We were greeted by the sweetest & friendliest staff. Everything looks crafted with care, love & time. We tried 3 different pastries & they were all spectacular. Their passion fruit chocolate choux has to be the best dessert i've tried all year. Very few places in montreal stand out in this way. Cannot wait to go back & try their savoury pastries & a few matchas

A hidden bakery gem in the Plateau for authentic Japanese-style pastries. We got the matcha melon pan & the ebi fry bun (fried shrimp) - both were delicious. The space is quite small so it's mainly takeout, but there are a couple of wooden benches if you want to sit.

What a lovely matcha bakery!

This place is a beautiful combination of Montreal's slow-paced lifestyle & the delicate artistry of Japanese cakes & pastries. I not only loved the cozy atmosphere, but I was also impressed by the quality of the cakes & drinks.

Everything was thoughtfully prepared, & you can really taste the care in every bite. I will definitely be coming back again & again.

Highly recommended for both locals & tourists looking for a unique & relaxing café experience!

I drove 40 minutes to get there, but they told me they had no pastries left in the afternoon. (It was early afternoon) Only few cookies left.
Apparently, their pastries sell out early. Even though there were still several hours left before closing, it felt like they were just displaying & selling leftover food.
For anyone planning to visit, keep this in mind.

I've been to Comète twice & both times the staff were lovely & welcoming. Also appreciate the open kitchen concept & watching them bake.

I love the texture of the buns: soft with a bit of bite & chew. The cookies were my preferred texture of slight crunchy rim with a moist & crumbly centre. All the flavours are more pronounced than what is usually expected of Japanese flavoured pastries that can be too subtle sometimes. It's also not overtly sweet.

I shared a hand poured coffee (on special during weekdays when you buy a dessert) which was smooth & not too bitter. My mom who never drinks black coffee loved it black.

My only critique is the yuzu chocolate bun, the bun itself was little dry.

Highly recommend going early if you want to try one of their viennoiserie as they sell out quick!
