Review Summary

Comète BAKE SHOP is widely celebrated as a cozy, hidden gem in the Plateau, known for its high-quality, authentic Japanese-inspired sweet and savoury pastries. Customers consistently praise the artistry, textures, and thoughtful preparation behind items like the matcha melon pan, curry pan, and cardamom miso creations, often noting that the products are perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The warm, friendly service and the open kitchen concept contribute to a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere that many describe as a unique Montreal experience. While the space is small and limited in seating, making it primarily a takeout destination, the popularity of the shop means that its fresh, handmade goods often sell out quickly, so early arrival is highly recommended by those who consider it a must-visit ritual.

Very cozy place to grab a pour over coffee & a snack. Yuzu cookie was delicious!

I've been to Comète twice & both times the staff were lovely & welcoming. Also appreciate the open kitchen concept & watching them bake.

I love the texture of the buns: soft with a bit of bite & chew. The cookies were my preferred texture of slight crunchy rim with a moist & crumbly centre. All the flavours are more pronounced than what is usually expected of Japanese flavoured pastries that can be too subtle sometimes. It's also not overtly sweet.

I shared a hand poured coffee (on special during weekdays when you buy a dessert) which was smooth & not too bitter. My mom who never drinks black coffee loved it black.

My only critique is the yuzu chocolate bun, the bun itself was little dry.

Highly recommend going early if you want to try one of their viennoiserie as they sell out quick!

Montreal is lucky to have this Japanese bakery. The pastries & the filtered coffee(!) are delicious , & the owners are really lovely.

Purchased some filter coffee & 4 pastries

The pour-over coffee was a darker roast than my preference, but the delicacy & care taken in it's making won me over. The coffee had a complex & subtle flavour I enjoyed that I find uncharacteristic of roasts of that darkness.

The confectionaries were all excellently crafted.

Matcha Melon Pan had delicious, rich jam that paired well with the bitterness of the matcha crust. A stand out for me.

The Cannelle-Anko was tender, & red bean flavour was delicate.

The Cardamom-Miso confectionary was subtle & well balanced.

The chocolate yuzu was tasty - the yuzu flavor was very forward; for me, it slightly overpowered the chocolate. Still, the pastry was delicious.

The 4 items & 2 coffees came to around $25 CAD. The service was great & the atmosphere was quiet. This was around 11:00am, so everything may be even better if they are fresh, earlier in the morning.

Really impressive place. I took a black sesame cookie & a coffee. Both were excellent, & I was impressed that the coffee was prepared with so much care… a nice touch for sure. My friends took a bit of everything else (shrimp sandwich, yuzu & chocolate brioche) & we enjoyed everything. A unique & calm experience - although I can imagine it must get quite crowded when busy.

🤩 soooooo tastyyyyy! I'm still dreaming of the matcha melon pan with strawberry jam, the pillowy bread texture with the subtly crunchy top was really nice & the matcha flavour was expertly balanced. We ordered a filter coffee as well & it was made fresh, great pairing with the miso x cardamome twist 🤩
