Just purchased some great cheese, baguette, & a dessert. I also purchased a terrible Quebec pinot noir wine. The reputation of this shop is very high so when a clerk suggested that this wine was really good I decided to buy it. Be warned! Looks like it is more about making sales then to provide honest customer advice. A manager needs to remind the staff that when they push a certain product, their own good name is at risk. She told me « it's not a grand cru but it is a great wine for the price range ». Well, I just wasted $35 because I could not even finish a single glass. I'm not blaming the wine.
Terrible service.
Nice location in Old Port. Love their desserts, definitely a sweet spot worth visiting!
Staff was so kind, allowed me to practice my French rather than switching to English upon hearing my accent. The store was very cool, so many different international delicacies.
NOLA Cheesecake (photo) was délicieux! Fresh with citrus flavors & nice sweetness coming from the white chocolate outer layer. Somehow this dessert managed to be light & creamy & pack a flavor-punch all at the same time. So many different crunchy & smooth textures too. YUM!!!!
Side note-yes there is a grapefruit slice on top; I do not like grapefruit & I LOVED this dessert.
I travel to Montréal from time to time & every time ´Chez Potier' is my place to go for a nice treat, especially since chef Tilly left the city two years ago. Why ´Chez Potier'? For the intricate desserts & real croissants. As much as I appreciate the multi-element desserts, I can not ignore the lack of good reception. I believe that people who serve the customers, must make an effort to be kinder & more appropriate. If not out of respect to the customers themselves, at least have respect to the chef & all the people, who put heart, imagination, artistry & extremely hard work into making such exquisite pastry. Chapeaux to the creators!
The two stars I took away from my review is for the service. It is not good to assume that your customers would not enjoy time at the shop & load a bag of five croissants, a cake & a hot chocolate to go. It's even worse when you are asked to make their order for in the house, to rudely scold them that next time they better tell you so way in advance, before they wrapped the pastry in the paper bag (the cake was not yet served & the chocolate wasn't even charged). Last November I had similar experience: I was savouring desserts & drinks inside the store. Before leaving, I decided to buy jars of mustard & other gourmand goodies. I again was advised next time to make up my mind in advance, instead of being cashed twice.
Multiple little mentions like this make me feel like I am being an annoyance. Why would I want to come back next time I visit Montréal?!
Highly recommend the Rose lychee dessert & the caramel circle (not pictured). A bit pricy but worth the treat!
The service was kind of bad. The servers seemed annoyed that they have to do their work.
One of the finest hot chocolate, croissant & desserts. A must visit when in Montreal. They have some amazing range of products to offer.
The best desserts I've tried. So delicious & the place is stunning.
As a dessert non-lover, I love this place! It's always a place to go if I want something sweet ❤️❤️❤️
Premium cafe, easy to go staffs. Loved the desserts very authentic. A little overpriced overall a great cafe
Literally amazing & delicate desserts. Tried the classic Paris brest & millefuille. Also recommend the croissant with strawberry compote inside.
Amazing cakes! I've tried quite a few patisseries in Montreal & this is one of the best. Expect to pay more for higher quality desserts. Passion fruit cheesecake is my favorite & I don't even like passion fruit that much. Baba au rhum is my second favorite. Pastries are good but are pricier than what you can get in Montreal at a lower price tag.
Amazing gourmet market with great selection of desserts & pastries. The only pain I want in my life is this Pain au Chocolat 😉
Amazing French style dessert/ pastry store. Love every dessert, not too sweet, great look. The cafe latte is also delicious 🤤 although the price is a bit higher than average pastries, it's worth going.
