Malgré le nom du restaurant qui donne le sentiment de la'cuisine classique', le restaurant n'a rien de classique. Nous avons pris le menu de dégustation à 8 services. Les combinaisons atypiques que je n'ai jamais goûté dans d'autres restaurants auparavant Le goût est excellent & ce n'est pas monotone. J'ai adoré le tobinambour, le riz de veau, le pain & le dessert au champion. Le service est bon & le personnel est gentil. 100% recommandé.

Gem we discovered thanks to some recommendations from strangers! The smaller setting made for a really great intimate atmosphere where my friends & I could chat easily. We were seated at the bar (last minute reservation on a Saturday), but they thoughtfully gave us a corner to face each other. We also had a great time talking to the staff! We went for the tasting menu & wine pairing, & thoroughly enjoyed all of it! The mushroom dessert was a pleasant surprise.

Honestly, this was disappointing, especially considering how many good reviews this place has. While the food itself tasted great, we didn't have a good overall experience. The day we went, it was extremely cold inside & the heater wasn't working, which made it very uncomfortable to enjoy the meal.
What made the experience even more confusing was that we were waiting for what we thought was our last dessert, only to be told that the entire course included just one dessert. I would have appreciated knowing this earlier, as we would have left right after finishing instead of sitting there in the cold waiting.
Overall, the food was good, but the experience wasn't. I'm not sure if I would give this place a second chance.

Not worth it. Went on a Saturday night, 8:30pm & there was one group leaving & one other group eating, that's it. Place was empty on prime time & food was not it. They try to over complicate things (eg. strong cheese on berry donuts for dessert).

I was very disappointed with my experience. I think they should stick to basics to get more people to come & then start trying out new things, but might've just been unlucky too…

Possibly my biggest disappointment of the year in Montreal. I honestly do not understand the other reviews.

First, the restaurant is very far from downtown - at least a 30-minute drive, & frankly it's not worth the trip. Out of five dishes, we only liked two. Two were such a huge disappointment that we couldn't even finish them, including dessert - something that never happens to us.

The service was also extremely slow. Finally, the restaurant is extremely noisy, This is especially surprising given the very high ceilings. Clearly, no investment was made in proper acoustics.

We have ordered a set manual including 7 courses at a cost of 100 dollars per person. The food were great. The appetizers were sea urchin, the beans, the razor clams, duck heart with foie gra, main dishes were the arctic cha & sweetbreads, then a dessert . All the foods were fresh & tasty, accompanying side dishes were great , the sauce can bring out the flavour of the food without covering it. The Arctic cha got a crispy skin & tender meat texture. The sea urchin got a very sweet taste due to the chicken broth. The bread accompanying the duck heart was just baked before serving & it was fuming when we ate it . The bean was crunchy. The razor clam was a bit small in portions. The sweetbread was very tender & juicy & unlike other restaurants which just deep fried it . The weakest dish was the dessert , it was a deep fried bread with chocolate inside accompanying by some plum bits. It could be further improved but I accepted it . In all I tried more than ten restaurants in Quebec city & Montreal in the past seven days, Chez Jean Paul was the best. Not to mention the waitress was very nice introducing us all the different dishes with candid recommendations. Also, they changed plates & utensils for every dishes which other restaurants lacking. I would return to try again & also making recommendations to my friends.

Je voulais essayer ce restaurant depuis un petit moment, & je ne trouvais personne avec qui aller, parce que je savais que leur spécialités étaient les abats.
Mais je me suis rendu compte que leur cuisine, élégante, raffinée & équilibrée n'est pas réservé aux amateurs d'abats, il y a beaucoup d'autres choses à manger sur le menu.
Tout était délicieux & parfaitement exécuté, un vrai régal.
Le service était professionnel, souriant, extrêmement précis, quant aux explications des plats, & leurs compositions.
Je n'ai qu'une hâte, c'est d'y retourner.
Le menu des desserts mériterait une petite réflexion, je suis sûr que le chef pourrait nous concocter quelque chose à la hauteur du reste du menu.

10/10 food, drink parings, experience

For such a small team the quality being sent out is impressive. The dishes are fun, balanced, & well thought out. All the wine pairings complemented the dish in their own way while still standing out alone. Service went smoothly.

The only criticism is that I wish the dessert menu was more robust. There were good fresh & palate cleansing dishes but for me, it was missing something more rich or decadent to end the meal.

It was an absolute pleasure to dine here & I can't wait to be back & see what new things the team does.

Quelle belle surprise que ce restaurant !

Épicurien dans l'âme, je suis toujours à la recherche des meilleurs restos à Montréal. En surfant sur Internet, je découvre que ce restaurant apparaît sur une liste des 50 meilleurs restos de Montréal. Nous avons donc réservé une table pour 4 personnes à l'occasion des 85 ans de ma mère.

En entrant, un peu stupéfait que le restaurant soit si petit. Probablement pas plus que 30 clients peuvent y être servi.

Le service est fort sympathique & on nous explique chacun des plats. Nous avons choisi: chicarron avec une sauce à l'aneth (croquant & salé), une entrée de courgette de 3 couleurs (goûteuse), une entrée de flanc d'agneau, de l'omble grillé (avec la peau craquante à souhait), du ris de veau exquis suivi d'un entremets & d'un petit dessert.

Nous sommes sortis de ce restaurant repu (& le portefeuille un peu moins rempli - mais la qualité a un prix).

Ce restaurant a tout intérêt a être connu. Lors de notre soirée, il y avait tout au plus 12 personnes dans la salle à manger & sur la petite terrasse dehors. Un peu dommage ! Montréal regorge de bons restos qui sont connus (Vin Mon Lapin, Le Violon, Boulud, Montréal Plaza, Mastard) grâce aux prix qu'ils ont gagné. Chez Jean-Paul est du même niveau. Il ne reste qu'au bouche à oreille à se faire & à transmettre le message que ce petit restaurant mérite bien un détour. Un excellent repas vous y attend.

Nous sommes trois à avoir été eblouis & enchantés par tous les plats que nous avons goûtés des entrées jusqu'au dessert. Recherché mais sans exagérer, des saveurs dans chaque bouchée, produits exceptionnels locaux. & le service à la hauteur de la table. Bravo à toute l'équipe! 1000x recommandé.

L endroit est très agréable , ambiance feutrée , décor soigné , musique sympa & pas trop forte . La cuisine est surprenante, inventive , raffinée , soignée , délicieuse de l entrée au dessert . Le service est au Top , attentif , efficace, expliquant chaque plat , donnant envie de les goûter tous .

Quel beau décor, grandes fenêtres Faut un bon appétit si vous succombez au 7 à 9 services car les plats sont à partager mais quand vous arrivez aux plats principaux les portions sont très généreuses & difficile de leur faire honneur après plusieurs entrées. Les entrées sont délicieuses dont les oursins de Rimouski exceptionnels. Les plats principaux très bien sauf des palourdes trop cuites Mon désappointement au dessert : une mousse aux fraises délectable sauf elle était couverte de mince tranche de prosciutto. Vaut mieux le savoir avant Autrement Laurent au service prends bien le temps de nous expliquer chacun des plats & ses connaissances en vin/accord sont bons Un restaurant gastronomique haut de gamme Isaël Gadoua, chef proprio.

Excellente soirée passée chez Jean-Paul : des entrées au dessert, en passant par les plats & le vin ! Très certainement un nouveau incontournable à Montréal !!
