Service was fast but kinda rude... food was fresh made & delicious... little too salty but was good.... chicken was tender & flavorful with hot heavy spice.. delicious... vegi rolls sucked .. not fresh but microwaved.....prices were reasonable.. parking kinds sucked .. will come back if in the area.. try other dishes..
Food was mediocre - well, what'I' had was mediocre. Vegetable fried rice. I ate it fast because I was super hungry. Rice had no real flavor. I had to add spicy hot sauce.
The server who prepped my table with a plate with chopsticks & napkins, dropped the plate on the table so hard that it startled me & a woman next to me who looked at me like,'smh'. I read her face good because that's what I was thinking. I know they're rushing & all but still be - aware.
There was a little lady running around there really working hard but as I waited for my table, I watched her do multiple things; handling money, handling plates, coughing into her shirt sleeve. Personally, I wish I could have seen her wash her hands at least once, the whole time. That bothered me but damn, I was hungry.
With that on my mind, I ate my meal. I'm sure the five star reviews are valid but my experience was this one. I will not be back.
To the staff: Don't bomb drop plates & such onto customer tables because you are rushing. Calm down, it's not a good look & it doesn't feel good to the customer. Most importantly, you're all doing alot. WASH YOUR HANDS, especially you Ms. Doing Everything lady.
Overall great Chinese food - some of the best I have ever had.
We ordered a few plates to share - General Tao's Chicken, Beef & Brocolli, Spicy Chicken, Vegetable Noodles, & Vegetable Fried Rice.
The only issue was that the spicy chicken was not at all spicy. It had chili peppers served with the dish, but the chicken itself was not spicy.
Had dinner her last night 12.13.25 while visiting from Florida. It's a small place, upstairs, located in the Chinatown area of Montreal & the food was very good. We had the beef fried rice & the general Tao's chicken. It was just us two, but the generous portions were plenty for 4. If we're in Montreal again, we'd love to try other dishes here.
I'm not sure why people love this place. The chicken was very average, the rice was dry & tasteless. Not going back. & it is quite pricy compared to other great chinese places in Montreal.
I may have reviewed this place before but in case I'm stoned:
Chez Chilli is the best chinese I've had in this city by a wide margin. Only La Perle comes close.
I've tried: the laziji, the hong shao rou, salt n pepper porchops, fish stew, yu xiang eggplant, several noodle plates, general tao, salt n spicy chicken, cumin squid, beef & lamb, the spicy beef stew, caramelized shortrib, yang zhou fried rice, & a few others I can't remember. Every single one of these dishes is top notch.
The service is great too. They always reseat us when our orders are huge, they explain the dishes very well in case you have doubts, & they're very friendly.
I'll never stop singing their praises, best chinese you can get, hands down.
General Tao's chicken is very authentic & the fried rice is delicious?
We came in around 6:00 p.m., just before the crowd arrived; it filled up quickly. Loved the fried rice & eggplant/ground pork dish, plus the sizzling beef. A bit too salty overall, but tasty!
First of all, the employees could learn a bit about customer service. They took an eternity to take our order, & with an attitude as if we were a nuisance rather customers. We saw other potential customers leaving too because their order was never taken.
On the other hand the general Tao chicken was more breading than actual chicken, & the fried rice with pork & shrimps didn't have any pork, but sausage cubes. The food could definitely improve as well.
Heart of Chinatown mtl. Looks like you are going to a grungy spot in the basement however it is well worth it to keep going & order some food. The service is mid with a girl who does not look to happy to serve you but the food is solid. On par quality some of the Chinese food spots in Toronto. We got the bone in chilli chicken, sizzling beef woth ginger & green onion + chicken fried rice. Truly hit the spot. Highly recommend.
Traditional Chinese food local in Chinatown, spicy, sweet & delicious. I love the Kung Pao Chicken & the fish with pickled mustard. The portions are perfect sized paired with a bowl of rice! Aside from Panda express, I would say, one of the best in West of Asian food.
This place had some damn delicious Chinese food. We ordered the fried rice which was okay in my opinion, the General Tao Chicken was the bomb & the wonton soup which was delicious. You won't regret eating here. It was packed when we came in which says a lot about the place. It's in a basement setting with limited seating but served us well. We waiting 5 minutes to be seated but the servers were hustling. Great place to eat!
A wonderful tasting General Tao dinner ( with Rice ( that was very good )). I would definitely return. A+++
Amazing Chinese cuisine, I really love their spicy hotpot 、beef fried rice、lobster. I will come here again!
Ordered lobster & pork/shrimp fried rice. Lobster was good, but fried rice was mediocre at best. Didn't realize what they meant as pork was sausages. Shrimp was good. Could have been so much better if they had used bbq pork instead. Friendly service & decent atmosphere.
Must be the place where the locals go. We ordered the chicken fried rice & the beef & broccoli. We found it so delicious that we came back a second time in the same week! While it is in the basement, the place was packed.
Beyond expectations. One if the best fried rice & chicken sweet&sour ( General Tao) in a long time. Servers super nice.
Located in a prime spot in Chinatown, this underground restaurant is always bustling with a crowd. The atmosphere is vibrant, & the staff is incredibly friendly & attentive. The food was quite good, though it took some time to get used to the unique flavors. Portions are very generous-almost too much. By the time I finished the appetizer, I was already feeling full. Despite that, I went on to try the Singaporean noodles, chicken fried rice, & assorted vegetables, which were all quite tasty. Given the popularity of the place, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid the long queues.
The food here was so flavorful! I had the beef tripe, & the waiter made sure that I knew it wasn't an actual cut of beef (I did know, I've eaten it before, but I appreciate him making sure haha). The chow mein, chicken & potatoes, & fried rice were all great too. I've only had beef tripe twice, including this visit, but it's definitely the best out of the two that I've eaten. A great place in Quebec's Chinatown.
