Display Allsmoked meat(59) sandwich(22) deli(13) fries(12) cheesecake(10) chenoys(8) style(8) changed(6) to go(5) old fashioned(5) slice(5) chicken(5)Chenoys has been around forever. I remember riding my purple bike with the paisley banana seat there, wearing my bright yellow CKGM t-shirt, to win a free smoked meat sandwich. I live in Toronto now & visit Montreal a few times a year, & always, always, & always, stop in at Chenoys. I eat there with some trepidation because, although the place looks clean, albeit dated, it smells like a toilet. But it's the best place I know of to buy a smoked meat sandwich. My mom is in a nursing home & I always bring her a sandwich & a slice of strawberry cheesecake.
Local friends brought us here right after our flight to try our first proper smoked meat sandwich & did not disappoint. Friday evening, it was quite quiet. The decor is very old school diner complete with vinyl booths, stained glass lamps (love!) & lovely service. We ordered the original smoked meat sandwich platter with some shrimp & steak & upgraded to a poutine of course. The sandwich was quite tasty but the steak was a little dry. Not surprising as we didn't come here for the steak. Loved the poutine though. A must try! We also ordered a cheesecake to go on the road with us to share with some friends & OMG is it heavy & dense! True deli cafe style. I love my cheesecake but I couldn't finish my slice sadly.
Chenoy's Deli never disappoints! Whenever we pass through the West Island, we always stop here even if just for take out. Generous portions, delicious smoked meat, & you have to try a slice of their strawberry cheesecake (if you've got room!) It's a shame they're not open 24 hours anymore, but a definite stop if you can!
At first, I thought the portions were quite small for a 40$ trio but it ended up being quite a meal & with a decent amount of leftovers. The fries were a bit soggy, maybe due to it being delivered, & the wings were normal. The smoked meat was good, quite tender, but I would have preferred it more if the meat had more fat in it. The coleslaw was good & the bread was alright. My favourite part was definitely ribs. It was glazed with amazing flavours & the slightly charred exterior made the ribs so addictive. It complemented the tender meat so amazingly & it was quite delicious. On the other hand, I was quite disappointed in the Strawberry shortcake. For one slice to be charging 9$, the cake was really underwhelming. The strawberry itself barely had any flavours & the texture of it was weird. The sponge cake itself was soggy & the texture was also a bit off. It wasn't an amazing dessert following the great ribs. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal for a reasonable price. I wish they had a better ratio of vegetables in their trio but that is probably just me. Their menu offers such a wide selection of meals, it is a great place for a larger party as everyone can easily find something they enjoy.
Expensive.. Disappointment. $29 + tip.. for a handful of soggy fries, & a poorly sliced jumbo sandwich. Bread was soaked, fries undercooked & small portion. This place has lost a step. Pu Jamais..!
Great place. Hasn't changed since the 80's. But still great. The only thing I could offer them in terms of improvement - slice the smoked meat thinner. This is a personal preference as the smoked meat was delicious.
