Chenoy's Dollard-des-Ormeaux: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
DeliSmoked MeatBrunch

About

Chenoy's serves authentic Montreal style smoked meat that is cured and spiced according to long-standing traditions. Each serving consists of hand-carved, tender beef piled high onto fresh rye bread, typically accompanied by sharp yellow mustard and crunchy dill pickles. The menu extends to include classic deli staples such as poutine, crispy fries, and coleslaw prepared with a signature tang. Patrons encounter a straightforward environment where the focus remains entirely on the quality of the cured meats and the efficiency of the kitchen. Portions are notably substantial, ensuring that every plate delivers a heavy, protein-focused experience characteristic of traditional Jewish delis. The establishment maintains a no-nonsense approach to service, emphasizing quick preparation and the reliable delivery of staple comfort foods that define the local smoked meat culture.

Review Summary

Chenoy's is widely regarded as a nostalgic Montreal institution known for its high quality, flavorful smoked meat sandwiches and diverse menu options that cater to families and large groups. While many patrons consistently praise the friendly, efficient service and generous portions, the overall consensus acknowledges that the restaurant maintains a traditional, diner style atmosphere that has remained largely unchanged for years. Opinions regarding the physical state of the establishment are mixed, with several guests noting that the interior decor feels dated and is in urgent need of renovation, despite the food remaining a reliable and popular staple for the local community.

My family has frequented this restaurant since moving to DDO when I was 5yrs old. I am now 42 with a family of my own living in Pierrefonds-Roxboro, & the food is great as it ever was! For 50 something odd bucks you get a jumbo smoked meat plate (fries, coleslaw & pickle), & an extra jumbo smoked meat sandwich on the side & you have MORE than enough for 4 people to have a *GREAT* & delicious meal. The staff is so polite & kind as well 😄👍 If you want an exceptional smoked-meat sandwich, this place can't be beat! N.B. I was too hungry & ate 1/4 of the fries, sandwiches & pickle in my picture 😆 Also, go for medium (fat) & classic old-fashioned meat, SO tasty!!👍
Edit: now 46 & Ravi is still making the *BEST* sandwiches as you can see in my new pics. Half a Jumbo smoked meat sandwich is the size of my closed fist! Can't beat the price for what you get, especially compared to others charging the same/more & half as good.

As a young adult, Chenoy's was one of the only restaurants that was open late, or 24/7. After clubbing, it was the place to go & grab a bite before heading home. That was some time ago, & it hasn't changed. The old-fashioned smoke meat is exactly the same. Served warm on rye bread with yellow mustard. I ordered the combo, so the sandwich plate had fries, coleslaw, & a crunchy pickle. To be honest, the meal was very good except for the fries. They weren't quite cooked enough. The inside & outside were cold & limp. Not the best. We did enjoy our lunch. Service was quick, so it's the perfect place to go for a business/work lunch hour.

This place hasn't changed in 25 years. Biggest Matzoh ball I've ever seen. Old fashioned smoked meat is on point. Has a very cool old-timer feel.

We hadn’t been to Chenoy’s in a couple
of years. The food (especially the old fashioned smoked meat)was as good as ever. The service was exceptional. Our server,Lavera did everything but cartwheels to make sure we had a good dining experience.
We would return for the food,of course but being served by Lavera again would be the cherry on Chenoy’s amazing cheesecake.

First let me start off with : I know now why all Chenoy's have slowly closed everywhere.Walked in on a Friday late afternoon into a morgue. Was seating & preceded to order a "Jumbo" old fashioned smoked meat plate at $19.99.The drinks & fries came first then the punchline of a joke came. The sandwich i got didn't even resemble a regular size , i took a pic. When i put the rye bread on the meat & held it , it had about 1 inch of meat.I've never complained about food in my life but this was just straight mocking the customer to my face.I called over the waitress & asked: "Does this look like a "Jumbo" sandwich ?" I said "What does the regular sandwich look like?"She has the audacity to say "Smaller than that".I took the picture & got up & walked out of that miserable place.Mocking your customers will only close the place down faster , which i hope it does & therefore put it out of its misery.Went to La Belle Province & had 2 bigger sandwiches for $3.00 more ($23)Mark my words this place will follow in the footsteps of the other Chenoy's .....Don't waste your time or money.

We just ate at Chenoys on St. Jean in the west island. We wanted a good smoked meat sandwich sorely disappointed.

First, there was none of the dry old fashioned smoked meat again, so we ordered the regular spicy one. Unfortunately the meat was cut too thick, but the real disappointment was that they changed the bread they used to use & replaced the rye with a new flimsy toast style bread. It just turned to mush on the sandwich, had a different flavour that didn't fit with the sandwich, & the whole flavor was off. Service was fine though & that was the only good thing.

The smoked meat sandwich was a real disappointment after being so much better for 30 years.

If this is what they will continue do in the future, we'll go elsewhere like Moe's, Smoked Meat Pete's, & Abys which all have better smoked meat sandwiches than Chenoy's now.
