Chenoy's is described as a classic Montreal smoked meat deli with a nostalgic old school vibe, where generous portions, a reliable smoked meat experience, and friendly service meet in a setting felt to be timeless and comfortable for groups and families, with ample parking and approachable prices. Many reviews praise the juicy, well seasoned smoked meat, big plates, and a menu that has something for everyone, along with solid breakfast options and a welcoming interior that evokes a true Montreal deli atmosphere. The interior is repeatedly praised as charming and nostalgic, while the service is often highlighted as attentive and helpful. Some feedback notes inconsistencies, including lean cuts with little flavor, fries that are underwhelming, and desserts like cheesecake that can be dry, as well as occasional delays or communication gaps. Overall, Chenoy's remains a West Island staple for those seeking the classic deli experience and a sense of tradition, backed by loyal regulars who keep returning despite the occasional flaw.
Chenoys has been around forever. I remember riding my purple bike with the paisley banana seat there, wearing my bright yellow CKGM t-shirt, to win a free smoked meat sandwich. I live in Toronto now & visit Montreal a few times a year, & always, always, & always, stop in at Chenoys. I eat there with some trepidation because, although the place looks clean, albeit dated, it smells like a toilet. But it's the best place I know of to buy a smoked meat sandwich. My mom is in a nursing home & I always bring her a sandwich & a slice of strawberry cheesecake.
Ordered 1 Exprees Smoked Meat sandwich & 1 Chicken Strips Express. Was told the strips would take a bit to make, happy to here instead of waiting with no communication. All was excellent.
The smoke meat takeout special for $39.99 gives you a pound of smoked meat, a pound of coleslaw, a pound of potato salad & a loaf of rye bread. Such a deal.
A staple for smoked meat ! My husband & I shared the smoked meat plate . It was perfect for two, moist & delicious. Everything came nice & warm . The waiter was attentive to all the guests needs. Having my mom with us , he was making sure everyone had what they needed , including coffee refill. Because we were sitting in the back, there wasn't much atmosphere, but being a larger party it allowed us to have a quiet environment.

Food was alright, not the best smoked meat I've had, fat is too hard, it's not melt in your mouth unfortunately. The fries & pickle were great. Service was ok.. please fix the men's bathroom.

Local friends brought us here right after our flight to try our first proper smoked meat sandwich & did not disappoint. Friday evening, it was quite quiet. The decor is very old school diner complete with vinyl booths, stained glass lamps (love!) & lovely service. We ordered the original smoked meat sandwich platter with some shrimp & steak & upgraded to a poutine of course. The sandwich was quite tasty but the steak was a little dry. Not surprising as we didn't come here for the steak. Loved the poutine though. A must try! We also ordered a cheesecake to go on the road with us to share with some friends & OMG is it heavy & dense! True deli cafe style. I love my cheesecake but I couldn't finish my slice sadly.
server was friendly & the food was great. My parents wanted good montreal smoked meat & they weren't disappointed. We liked the family-friendly deli vibe. I ate the fish & chips which were super yummy too.
Old school deli & restaurant. Opened 24 hours. Large parking lot, easy to find a space, the entrance is around the front. We went in for breakfast/brunch on a Saturday around 10:30am. No wait to sit down. Service was friendly & helpful answering questions we had about the menus. Coffee & water was quickly served while we settle on what to order. The decor is old school deli/bar counter as well as leather booths. The lights above the booths have Chenoy 1936 emblazoned on them. Good variety of selections, have a separate breakfast menu as well. The smoked meat is available in different items throughout the menu. Had the smoked meat omelet, & the big boy breakfast combo. Food came out quickly, hit the spot. If I came again I'd definitely have the smoked meat sandwich. The meat in the omelet had a nice classic smoked meat flavor.
