I love Café St Henri. Thoughtful takes on coffee creations. Since they opened, I go to their Wellington location whenever i'm in Mtl as often as i can. I went to their Notre Dame location April 07, 2026 around 10:30 am. There were 4 people occupying separate tables. I ordered a cappucino for here, 10% tip. Don't get me wrong, the guy at the counter makes good coffee, but i was handed an unlabeled paper cup. All the other customers were given the ceramic cup & the 1 before me was given a paper cup with the the St Henri Cafe name. I felt like this was a downright discriminatory. I know this is a small issue but the thought that he took the time in deliberately choosing the plain paper cup versus the sea of labeled paper cups & white ceramic cups infront of him, made me give this negative review. Hope he will not do this again. He seems nice & friendly, but his choice, meh.
Excellent cafe for casual meetings, or to settle into with your laptop. Beautiful pastries (though the selection could be improved), & friendly baristas. Atmosphere a little cold for my personal taste, but still a local favourite.
In a city that takes its coffee as seriously as Montreal does, standing out requires more than just a good espresso machine. Café Saint-Henri on Notre-Dame doesn't just stand out; it consistently proves why it is an anchor of the local specialty coffee scene.
First-Class Coffee
As a micro-roaster, their dedication to the craft is evident in every single cup. The coffee here is, simply put, first-class. Whether you order a perfectly pulled, fruit-forward espresso or a smooth, meticulously poured flat white, the flavor profiles are distinct, balanced, & roasted to perfection. You can taste the care they put into sourcing & roasting their beans, making it a must-visit destination for true coffee aficionados.
A Genuinely Chill Atmosphere
Finding the right café ambiance can be a delicate balancing act, but Saint-Henri nails it. The space offers a uniquely Montreal vibe-industrial yet warm, with plenty of natural light. It is incredibly chill, making it the perfect backdrop whether you are settling in with a laptop for deep work, catching up with a friend over pastries, or simply enjoying a quiet morning moment with a book.
Superb Service
What truly elevates this café from great to exceptional is the staff. The service is superb. The baristas are not only highly skilled artisans but also genuinely approachable & happy to share their knowledge about the beans on offer. Despite a steady stream of locals, the staff remains incredibly efficient without ever making you feel rushed.
Verdict
Café Saint-Henri on Notre-Dame is everything a neighborhood coffee shop should be: passionate about its product, welcoming in its service, & effortlessly cool in its atmosphere. It is an absolute staple for anyone in Montreal seeking a top-tier coffee experience.
Café Saint-Henri (Notre-Dame) (3632 Notre-Dame St W, Montreal, Quebec H4C 1P5) - this is a pretty spacious establishment, more like a large hall that often feels like a co-working spot with coffee! ☕💻
There's plenty of room here with lots of tables & chairs, especially convenient seating along the windows.
It has a working vibe - you'll see many people with their laptops, some working & some just browsing. 🧑?💻
The staff is friendly & chatty, always ready to help. 😊 The coffee, in my opinion, isn't the absolute best in Montreal; maybe they could tweak the ingredient ratios a bit. But hey, everyone has their own taste! 😉
They do have pastries, not a huge selection, but they look fresh & tasty. 🥐
Overall, if you need a good place to work on your laptop or just spend an hour or two sipping coffee in a spacious hall, I'd recommend Café Saint-Henri (Notre-Dame). 👍

Nice atmosphere, small neighborhood cafe. I got a filter coffee & I had to toss it because of how acidic it was
