Overall, Café Cherrier emerges as a Montreal institution that consistently delivers classic French bistro fare with generous portions, a warm Parisian vibe, and attentive service. The menu is praised for reliable staples like onion soup, gravlax, onglet de boeuf, gigot d'agneau, ris de veau, and steak tartare, with brunch and desserts such as eggs Benedict and tarte tatin earning frequent compliments, and the terrace is often highlighted as a superb setting for al fresco meals. Prices are considered reasonable for the quality by many, though a few reviews note that they have risen and some call portions or value not ideal at times. Service is repeatedly described as friendly and professional, with staff remembered for their attentiveness, yet some experiences mention slower pacing or occasional missteps in busy rooms or in wine recommendations. The atmosphere is described as convivial, intimate, and often lively, sometimes noisy, but with a consistent level of comfort and charm that keeps diners returning. Taken together, the reviews suggest a dependable, well loved bistro that balances tradition and quality, with room for improvement in noise control and consistency.
The food was wonderful & my server was great. But don't trust their wine recommendations. I was having the lamb & requested their recommendation on a hearty full bodied wine under $75 to complement the meal. Their sommelier recommended a St Didier-Parnac Cahors 2021. It was only $42 & I was impressed that he was recommending a wine well below my threshold. However it was very disappointing, Sour & very shallow with little dimension. Since they had opened it & it was not spoiled I did pay for it, but needed to order something else so as to not ruin my meal. I took the St Didier-Parnac home to use as a marinade. I can't help wondering if Cafe Cherrier had ordered to much of this sad wine & were trying to get rid of it whenever an opportunity presented itself.
Food was decent. Small portion. For the bill, The server yanked the terminal out of my hands as soon as she saw my Amex. I was told to use another card...

A classic on St-Denis St.
Just a lovely brunch on Sunday. The service was on point & the atmosphere is just bistro perfect. Took a nice walk in Carre St-Louis parc across the street from the restaurant. That was just awesome
Très bel endroit convivial.
Plats raffinés, personnel très agréable.

We were just there for the ambiance & a cocktail - both were superb. My friend has decided Americanos are her new favourite drink. We loved looking at the celebrity photos & I recognized someone I had worked with'in the day'. & what a great photo of René Lévesque!
Tout est toujours parfait au Café Cherrier, depuis toujours. Je ne me ferai pas d'amis, mais les enfants n'ont pas leur place dans ce bistro, selon moi.
