I had high expectations for the French onion soup, but it was unfortunately a huge disappointment.

The soup arrived gratinated on the top, but the broth in the center was barely warm-giving the distinct impression it was microwaved & then rushed under a broiler. Instead of a smooth, melted layer of cheese over a toasted crouton, there was a giant, half-melted slab that seized up into a rubbery block. I literally had to use a steak knife just to cut through it.

I usually love a lot of cheese, but the execution here was completely off. The temperature & texture ruined what should be a classic comfort dish. Hope the kitchen can refine their line prep & get the temp & cheese layering right.

Service was good though & the ambiance on the terrace is really nice.

The food was excellent. I was apprehensive to order spaghetti bolognese in a french restaurant but I was extremely happy with the sauce. Excellent!! The atmosphere was a bit noisy for nice conversation but the food was great!

Lovely to go back after many years. Still a traditional French bistro menu done well. Wonderful oysters & service. Great place to have a meal then walk down saint denis for other goodies. Merci, Cafe Cherrier! Votre réputation excellente persiste!

Great bistro. Lovely atmosphere, old school charm. Good-sized menu & prepared perfectly.

Its worth going to for the true French bistro experience. The terrace is wrapped around & you don't feel like a passing car might hit you (i.e. not IN the damned street…. Why do people like eating with car exhaust fumes in the air??). Only negatives were the wet/dirty terrace chairs & the occasional long wait for service.

The food was extraordinary, perfect in every way, classic French Bistro fare, the steak was to-die-for, sadly the service was very poor, after being seated for 20 minutes we had to get up to find a server, that happened again 5 times over the 2 hour meal. Still didn't take away from the fabulous food.

The food was good, the choice of wine adequate, our server was friendly. Because there was a table of 9 people beside us, the atmosphere was compromised because it became very noisy. But overall as a french Bistro it is very good & I would recommend it.

I recently went to Café Cherrier with one of my good friends, & it turned out to be one of those meals you remember long after. Nestled in the Plateau, the place has that effortlessly elegant French vibe-cozy inside, with a terrace that's perfect for people-watching. We shared a bottle of wine from their excellent selection (French, of course), & every dish we tried felt like a little trip to Paris. The onion soup was rich & comforting, & the steak tartare was spot-on. It's the kind of restaurant where you linger over dessert & conversation, & we did just that.
