Review Summary

Bous is widely regarded as a standout destination in Montreal, offering an elevated and modern approach to authentic Persian cuisine. Guests frequently praise the restaurant for its high quality ingredients, flavorful charcoal grilled kebabs, and thoughtfully crafted dishes like the fesenjoon and tahchin. The atmosphere is consistently described as elegant, chic, and warm, providing a sophisticated backdrop that honors Iranian culture without feeling stereotypical. While most visitors find the service professional and the experience memorable, some note that the fine dining portion sizes and pricing may not align with expectations for those accustomed to traditional, larger-format Persian meals. Overall, the restaurant is celebrated as a beautiful gem perfect for special occasions, date nights, or introducing friends to high-end Persian hospitality.

A new favourite!

Came here with my gf & we loved it. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the Maast-o-Khiar, Saffron Rice, Koobideh kebab, & Barg kebab. Everything was packed with flavour, perfectly cooked, & nicely presented/plated. The Barg kebab was our highlight.

I had the vodka barberry cocktail & my gf had a willow mocktail. Both were very tasty & unique.

The interior decoration is beautiful. Traditional art & rugs mixed with tasteful modern design & dim lighting. Great date environment.

The service really stood out. I am celiac (gluten free). When our main course came out the server apologized for the delay (which wasn't very long) & said that some bread had touched my plate, so it had to be remade. This has happened to me many times before, but usually the server brings it out & I have to ask for it to be remade. Not having to need to ask or watch others eat while my food is being remade was really nice. The server was very polite & also brought a complimentary drink because of the delay. Hopefully this great service continues past the restaurant's first few months!

The only thing that could've been better for me was if there were gluten free options for the dips like corn chips, rice crackers, or bread.

We'll definitely be back!

Very disappointing experience. The prices were far too high for what was served. The koobideh & jooje kababs were each about half a skewer, making the portions surprisingly small. The kababs were served without rice, which is very unusual for a Persian restaurant & made the meal feel incomplete. The overall food quality was quite ordinary. Considering the high prices, the meal offered very poor value for money.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. First off, the staff & atmosphere were absolutely fabulous. They could not have been nicer or better. You feel that you're in a chic museum. The mocktails were great. But here's the rub: the only food that lived up to the above was the kashk-o-bodemjaan. The ghormeh sabzi with lamb had lamb that was well cooked (fell off the bone) but the meat was under salted. The ghormeh sabzi itself was not properly sour & had a very mild flavor (should be sour from the dried limes). It also didn't seem to have adequate fenugreek. The barg was also under-salted but otherwise had a very nice char to it. But you can't make up for not pre-salting meat adequately after the fact. The salad shirizi was well presented & fine but tiny. The saffron rice had to be ordered separately from the kebab/khoresh, & seemingly there was no option to get tadigh. Maybe something like Rumi's Kitchen where you can order a tadigh app with a khoresh on top would be good? & no sumac was included with the kabob which would have been nice. I hope they keep fine tuning because I really want them to succeed & all the ingredients are there with a few tweaks.

Bous is hands down one of the best Persian restaurants I've been to. The food is incredibly fresh, flavorful, & beautifully presented. Every dish was perfectly seasoned & tasted authentic, with generous portions & high-quality ingredients.

The service was warm, attentive, & welcoming from the moment we arrived. A special thank you to Omar, who was absolutely excellent-professional, friendly, attentive, & genuinely made our dining experience even more enjoyable.

The atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, making it perfect for both a casual dinner & a special occasion. The kebabs were exceptionally tender, the rice was perfectly prepared, & the appetizers were outstanding. You can truly tell that a lot of care goes into every detail.

If you're looking for authentic Persian cuisine & exceptional service, I highly recommend Bous. We will definitely be back!

?An absolutely incredible experience from start to finish!

From the moment you step through the door, you are immediately captivated by an atmosphere that is both elegant & luxurious. The stunning interior decor, beautifully sourced directly from Iran, adds a captivating & authentic depth to the upscale ambiance. It is the perfect setting for a special occasion or simply to treat yourself to an exceptional evening. The welcome is incredibly warm, with an attentive & highly professional staff who make you feel comfortable right from the very first moments.
The evening started beautifully with the discovery of their original cocktail menu. The creations are bold, perfectly balanced, & bring a welcome touch of modernity that beautifully introduces the meal. For wine lovers, their selection is equally impressive, featuring a remarkably curated wine list composed of exceptional private imports that pair beautifully with the complex flavors of the menu.
As for the food, Persian cuisine is truly elevated to an art form here. The dishes are as beautiful to look at as they are delicious to taste. Special mention goes to the texture of the bread, the refinement of the eggplant & yogurt appetizers-subtly enhanced with herbs-& the must-try crispy rice, a masterpiece of culinary mastery. The chicken skewers & slow-cooked meats (like the lamb, which was absolutely tender) are remarkably well-executed, rich in flavor without ever being heavy. To finish, the traditional desserts bring a floral, refreshing, & incredibly delicate note.
In short, Bous is a must-visit address if you are looking for a refined Persian table, impeccable service, an outstanding private import wine selection, & a sophisticated, visually breathtaking environment. A memorable experience that I recommend without a shadow of a doubt!

The food tasted good, but the portion sizes were disappointing. The koobideh was very small, & the rice portion was much less than expected. Considering the price, the quantity did not feel reasonable.

The space is beautifully designed, with a warm, moody atmosphere that feels both refined & inviting. The textured ceilings, rich tones, & thoughtful lighting create a memorable ambiance that sets the tone the moment you walk in.

The food was equally impressive. The lamb was tender, flavourful, & perfectly cooked, while the rice & accompanying dishes were well balanced & beautifully presented. The fresh herbs, house-made dips, & warm bread brought everything together.

A special mention goes to the orange blossom drink, which was an absolute standout & easily 10/10. Refreshing, aromatic, & unique, it's something I'd gladly order again.

Wow! What an experience. This was our first time at a Persian restaurant & we will definitely be back. We made a reservation so had no trouble being seated. Our waitress was friendly & very helpful with recommending the Kashk Bademjoon for a starter & it did not disappoint. We also had the Barg & Joojeh Kabobs with rice, & they were also great. Maybe a bit pricy for the amount of meat, but it was good quality meat & well prepared.

While it seems some other reviews say the menu is limited, you can tell the chef knows his stuff & really cares about making sure the dishes that they do offer are top quality. I would also personally a smaller menu of dishes that are really well done than a smorgasbord of mediocre options.

Overall, it was a great experience & we'll definitely be back.

Very unique blend of modern food serving & Persian cuisine. Best in class ingredients used.
Authentic persian rice with butter used for cooking. Signature Koobideh: 100% lamb & awesome meat flavor.
Loved it!
Definitely would recommend Bareberry Bloom from the drinks menu if you adore non-alcoholic sweet & sour.

Overall Experience

The restaurant attracts a crowd mostly between 25 & 55 years old, including couples, families, & friend groups. The atmosphere is calm, with jazz music & Persian-inspired interior design. Expect to spend around CAD $120-190 for two people. Everything is halal, & they also offer mocktails.

The space is beautiful & very cohesive. I loved the color palette of brown, dark grey, beige, & burgundy, as well as the Persian-inspired details such as the hanging carpet & arched kitchen entrance. The branding is subtle & never overwhelming. The jazz music with Persian influences really enhances the experience.

The service was attentive & overall super good top 3 best service i've had. I especially appreciated that the server asked me to taste the water to make sure the temperature was right for me. Serving water in a wine-style bottle was another nice touch.

A few details could be improved. The single light bulb near the entrance feels random without a matching element on the opposite wall. The linen napkins fit the aesthetic but leave lint on clothing. The restrooms are gender-neutral & somewhat narrow, although the dark blue tiles & adjustable lighting were nice surprises.

Food

Golden Square Mile Tahchin - 4/10

Beautiful presentation, but the flavours felt unbalanced. The herbs & berries were overwhelmingly sour, & the crispy rice was overcooked & extremely hard. The dish needed something creamy or slightly sweet to bring everything together. It also felt as though it had been sitting for a while before being served.

Joojeh kebab - 6/10

Creative presentation & well-cooked chicken, although slightly overdone. The pickled onions were the highlight of the dish & unexpectedly stole the show. The bread became soggy from the juices, & the dish became repetitive after a few bites. It needed a bolder flavour profile to match the restaurant's modern concept.

Shishlik - 7/10

Good flavour overall, but the lamb was slightly chewy. Combined with the hard bread, there were too many tough textures on the plate. The presentation was attractive, although the plate felt too small. The pepper was very spicy, & I would have appreciated a warning.

Borani Bademjoon - 8/10

A refreshing & enjoyable side dish. The cold yogurt worked beautifully after the grilled meats. Some eggplant pieces were too large, & the grilled garlic was a bit overpowering, but overall it was one of the stronger dishes.

Final Thoughts

The atmosphere, design, music, & service are the restaurant's biggest strengths. The food is visually appealing & creative, but several dishes need better flavour balance & texture. Overall, it's a beautiful dining experience with plenty of potential.
