Indulging in the Lamb Chops at Restaurant Bonaparte - A Taste of Timeless Excellence As I recently dined at Restaurant Bonaparte, I couldn't resist trying their renowned lamb chops, & I must say, it was an experience beyond compare. Since 1983, Restaurant Bonaparte has been celebrated for its exceptional French cuisine, & their lamb chops certainly lived up to the reputation. Cooked to perfection, each bite was a symphony of flavors & textures that danced on my palate. The tender meat, infused with delicate herbs & spices, melted in my mouth, leaving me craving more with every bite.
Bonaparte's location in the old port centre is part & parcel to the old-world charm. Inside, the restaurant is well-appointed & elegant. Music softly complimented the ambiance. Our food was most delicious: Lobster bisque & onion for starters; entrees included the Boeuf à la bourguignonne (Beef bourguignonne) & Suprême de volaille au brie du Québec fondant, crème de sauge (chicken with brie & sage) with Creme Brule & Napoleon for our desserts. The staff was appropriately attentive, proper, & friendly. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience!

Ambiance, Food, Drinks & Service top the chart in French Cuisine. George the Host, Simon, our server, & Iliya made our dining experience so amazing. Thank you 😊
To date, the best dining experience my wife & I have been to! We've eaten in many restaurants around the world & this is our favorite so far. Awesome service, food, & ambiance.
It was a wonderful experience! No wonder it is the best restaurant in Montréal. I loved almost everything. Dress something nice, you will feel like a King/Queen. It took us about 1hr & 40mins to complete the tasting menu. First of all, the atmosphere was beautiful. The music, the walls, the tables, the menu, & the plating went very well together. The Christmas tree was beautifully decorated with dried cirtus. I had to take pictures up close. Servers were very professional & attentive. It was a busy night, but they all had a smile on their face & looked very happy working there. Clumsy me, I dropped the butter knife as soon as I got to my seat. I was so embarrassed, but the servers replaced it right away without us asking or getting their attention. Now, the food, we tried the tasting menu, & it was an awesome choice. My husband & I ordered different things & shared them. Salad & lobster bisque - both were great choices; Salmon was no doubt, Duck Foie Gras Crème Brûlée was not for my taste, but I was glad that I tried it; mushroom ravioli was so wonderful, rabbit confit was not my style but again, l loved that I tried it; pear sorbet cleansed my pallet well (but was too boozy for me); roasted duck was heavenly & was the highlight of my meal (got it medium) & lamb was also heavenly (medium as well); tea (gave me a whole pot, loved it) & coffee; cheese option was really great & Pastry was is the only plate I couldn't finish. We didn't take the wine pairing option. We ordered drinks separately. Overall we were very satisfied. Highly recommend to try.
This restaurant perfectly embodies the essence of Old Port: good looks, no substance. We got the tasting menu. The appetizers were interesting but nonetheless disappointing. For example the foie gras crème brûlée was an interesting concept, but didn't deliver. The savouriness did not pair well with the pear compote. The lobster bisque was thoroughly disappointing. It was grainy & lacked any flavor other than the stench of a fish market. There was little, if any, lobster in it. For a meal of this price, it's a slap in the face. The entrées were similarly lackluster... by the time they came. The lamb stew was decent, but the sauce had coagulated. It wasn't memorable, & not something I recommend spending money on. The poisson du jour was average, but the sides it came with were scarce & unimaginative. Finally the desserts were good, but nothing special. All in all, I cannot recommend spending money at this restaurant. You're far better off going somewhere outside of Old Port.
The space is lovely, the service is excellent & the food is good. I ordered an orange carrot soup (soup of the day) which was very nice & the lamb shank. I was a little disappointed with the lamb shank as it was overcooked--something you don't expect in a restaurant of this standing. Also, I personally prefer Quebec (local) lamb vs New Zealand lamb, but I believe I was served the latter. My experience with lamb has always been that New Zealand has the stronger, game-y taste, which I am personally not found of. Overall, a great experience, but not an experience you can't find elsewhere in Montreal, for less $$.

Nous avons passer une magnifique soirée, tout était délicieux de l'entrée au dessert .A+ pour le suprême de volaille au brie fondu. Le service était aussi impeccable & l'ambiance calme & chaleureuse.
(En Français ci-dessous) I rarely say this but mark my words ,wish i could rate more than 5 stars on every categories for this place. The staff is incredible from the very moment you step foot inside. The food was delicious & incredibly reasonably priced for the luxurious service & experience received. From the ambiance to the decor ,the food, the staff, the cocktails, if you are looking for a fine dining experience without making your wallet cry , do yourself a favor & give this place a try, i will be back & next time try the hotel iteself as well.
4.5/5 Great ambience & vibe. The avg age of guests there is high, meaning it's a consistent & authentic restaurant. The interior gives some French castle vibe. Love it. The service was good except that our server was covering half the tables there by himself. He was nice but too occupied with other guests. Food was great. Appetizers were better than the mains. Great seafood, foie gras, lobster salad & duck breast. Beef bourguignon & lamb shank was alright. P.s. their wine list was impressive
Updated review: ambiance is good, staff is a bit less experienced than it used to be but did very well :)
Food took a nose dive since our last visit. We had the tasting menu & this was not our first time so our expectations were high. The lobster bisque lacked depths, salt & the twist you would expect from such a place. It tasted like lobster bouillon mainly. The Smoked Salmon & the scallops appetizers were amazing. The mushroom raviolis were dry & crunchy around the edges as if there were left outside under a heating lamp too long.
The mains were good. However my wife was disappointed by the size of the lobster serving. About one claw… I was expecting also expecting the desserts to be at the same level as last time but was let down. Dried out macarons are just not Ok for a place that charges 150$-200$ per person . If it was a regular restaurant maybe our expectations would be lower, but a place of this standing & price you expect impeccable food & service. Not to mention the fact that the neighbouring table returned their dessert & didn’t seem impressed.
Disappointed to be honest. It used to be a favourite.
