Ben & Florentine is widely appreciated as a fantastic spot for breakfast and brunch in downtown Montreal, consistently praised for its generous portions, fresh ingredients, and a diverse menu that caters to various tastes. Many visitors highlight the quality of the meals, such as the eggs benedict, crepes, and seasonal specials, which offer great value for the price. The atmosphere is generally described as welcoming and clean, making it a popular choice for families and travelers alike. While the restaurant can get quite busy, especially on weekends, the staff are frequently noted for being hardworking, friendly, and accommodating, often going above and beyond to ensure a positive dining experience with attentive service and helpful recommendations.
I'm usually pretty tough to please but my meal had really great flavors & textures. The staff are hustling & working together to provide a good experience. I only decided to write this becuase I don't agree with the current 4.1 rating. My waitress Lawrence regardless of how busy she was, had a smile on her face the whole time. Haley was also moving quickly to assure I had a great experience & my coffee didn't get below half a cup.
A friend recommended this as her fave breakfast place, & now I know why. I headed to Ben & Florentine for a big breakfast since I had a walking tour after & went for their egg benedict plus a side of bacon. I've had eggs benedict before & I would say that these were the best ones I ever had. Plus free coffee refills & fruit on the side made it such a great meal! So what made me go back a 2nd time in my trip when my flight was cancelled was the service. Huge shoutout to Marie! She was very friendly, remembered me & my order & always took the time to check on me even though she had other waiting tables. We even talked about the airline that even Canadians avoided flying with. Great food & amazing friendly service! I'm a huge fan & would recommend this plac e to anyone!
After our first brunch here was so good, we ended coming back 3 or 4 more time while on holiday in Montreal. Food was always delicious, generous portions, excellent service & a lovely, bright setting. Highly recommended if your in Montreal.
This is one of the best dining experiences I've had. The food is amazingly fresh & large portions that you are not going away hungry. & the staff, superb - so friendly, so agile & so efficient. I would recommend to anyone.
HORRIBLE SERVICE - Friday, June 19, around 8:00 AM
This was, without question, the worst customer service experience I have ever had at this establishment.
At approximately 8:00 AM, I politely requested a window table for one. There were already customers seated in that area, yet the employee at the entrance refused the request & stated that SHE decides where customers are seated because some employees were late. She then instructed a colleague to keep customers jammed in one section.
In other words, customer seating was apparently being determined by what was most convenient for her, not by customer service or common sense.
The employee's attitude was arrogant, confrontational, & completely inappropriate. At no point was I rude or demanding. I simply made a reasonable request. Instead of responding professionally, she acted as though accommodating customers was an inconvenience.
Faced with this behavior, I decided to leave. As I walked out, she loudly called after me,'JE VOUS SOUHAITE BONNE JOURNÉE, MONSIEUR,' with unmistakable sarcasm. It was petty, disrespectful, & entirely unprofessional.
What is most shocking is that this restaurant has generally provided excellent service in the past. This employee's conduct was so far below acceptable standards that it raises serious questions about supervision & management presence during morning shifts.
Refusing a seating request is one thing; speaking to customers with arrogance, dismissiveness, & open sarcasm is something else entirely.
I left without ordering & will think twice before returning or bringing my team for brunch unless I am confident that this kind of behavior is being addressed.
Food is really good, potatoes are a bit dry tho, but overall really good! Our waitress was super friendly & really accommodating! I was afraid that the eggs were cooked on the same grill as the meat, but the waitress took the time to reassure me that the eggs are cooked on a different grill & that if I wanted egg benedictine that she could cook it on a different grill.
