My duck was extremely tough & very hard to cut, the fat didn't seem rendered enough & the fois gras was very gelatinous. The flavors were amazing, unfortunately it just didn't seem like it was cooked long enough. Service was good until our waitresses switched mid shift then everything became very slow & we felt forgotten.
This was an experience to remember. A lively environment with exceptional food & service. The fois gras nigiri was amazing as was the pork chop. A side of asparagus that was seasoned with dill & mint was a beautiful accompaniment along with the maple flan. Very rich food with complex flavors overall. Hopeful to go again next time in Montreal
Despite the limited choices (later we were told that the restaurant has just started opening more days during the week, & the menu needs to be adjusted due to staffing), the food was fantastic. The pork chop is a must-have. It's not a family restaurant, but the waitress was very kind & told us they could do alterations for our little ones (age 8, 7, 5). All the adults & kids love the food there (we didn't ask to change anything for the kids). Welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.
It was fantastic , even though our eyes were bigger than our stomachs & we required a take away box! We sat at the bar where we watched the chef & his team perform his magic. Our waiter Alex was attentive & fun as was every staff member. We started with the maple stuffed donut chicken liver mousse, braised onions & pistachios- out of this world! It was followed by the foie gras Mapo Tofu with Udon noodles & spicy ground pork- outstanding, but we didn't stop there! We finished up with the pork chop with mustard hollandais, fondant potatoes & mushroom sauce, we had the rest for breakfast! Au Pied du Cochon has been on our bucket list for 10+ years & it didn't disappoint! We will definitely return!
Atmosphere was great, food could be better though. We ordered the pork tongue appetizer which was delicious, pork chop was good although the potatoes were overcooked & dry. The champvallon was not worth the money, the mains also took a long time after the appetizer to arrive. I definitely had higher hopes for this place.
The duck in a can was raw & the server had the guts to tell me it was just a different way of cooking & that it was just "rare". It was so rare that it was chewy & I felt like an animal eating it. The medium rare portion was edible but clearly inconsistent. The potatoes in the pork dish was so burnt I couldn't spit it out fast enough. Didn't see because the restaurant was too dark to make out the food properly.
Had a mixed experience @ PDC. We were seated close to the kitchen/bar area where it was very loud (even with earplugs). This made it hard to enjoy the experience. Since the place was busy, it would have been hard to switch tables until the end of the meal so we decided not to ask. We got 4 total entrees/mains but were overall disappointed: Pork tongue was too salty & not particularly flavourful. Plogue à Champlain was good but a bit too sweet. The fish & chips was way too oily & overly battered. Overall, the highlight of the experience was the duck in a can, unique concept & interesting flavour + texture combinations. We also enjoyed our Ginette cocktail. Service & presentation was very good, no complaints. Had been looking forward to trying PDC for a while but don't think we'll return.
Great food, friendly staff & adherence to Covid protocols made this a memorable dining experience which I highly recommend. Especially good was the Foie Gras Nigiri & the Pork Chop.
We were so happy to be able to find reservations at Au Pied Du Cochon since we were only in town for 2 days. This is our 3rd time dining at Au Pied & they continue to provide Awesome meals. The service was impeccable & the food just phenomenal. However, perhaps the kitchen was super busy that evening such that we didn't receive our starter until 30mins after ordering & our entrees an hour after ordering. While the meals were terrific, we were surprised by the fusion inspired entrees & would have preferred more traditional options such as the stuffed pork hock or burgers with foie gras. Regardless we loved our dinner & would return the next time we're in Montreal.
The food is really amazing! Especially the dishes with four gras & the pork chop. It would be better if the music volume is lower.
