We began with a glass of wine & three appetizers - scallops with basil & melon, the blue cheese salad, & the potato au gratin cheddar & bacon fois gras plate. All were exceptional & delicious & better than expected. Next, we had the Fois Gras Nigiri which was eaten fast but each bite was savored-a great portion, too! Our main course was next! We got the halibut, duck in a can, & the pork shank. All the portions were great however, the pork shank was more than enough, & we didn't finish that sadly. Although it was scrumptious. The sauce that accompanied it was delicious & so were the lentils. The halibut was fresh surrender by seasonal vegetables & caught in the wild. The duck in the can was consistent & delicious & is one of the staples on the menu, you can't go wrong here. Dessert was the traditional Quebec maple bread pudding which I could've had seconds! It's the best dessert you can get in the province of Quebec especially if you're a maple fiend like we are. C+ for seating us across from the bathroom & near screaming babies, otherwise everything was an A+.View more

With sophisticated & inventive Quebec fare, Au Pied de Cochon has a well-deserved reputation as a top-notch restaurant. Both the food & service were first rate without being stuffy or formal. The weather was perfect & we were able to sit outside on the patio. Our waitress, Lauri, was very friendly &, while a native French speaker, also spoke excellent English. We started off with a couple of drinks - my companion has a fantastic cocktail made with jasmine-infused vodka, orange blossom syrup & triple sec. I had a classic Quebec-made cider (crisp & dry), great balance, aroma & flavor. After two superb entrees - duck temaki & plogue de champlain - our plats principals did not disappoint in the least. My companion had the well-known conserve de canard or canned duck which was even better than expected. I tried an intriguing dish that was new to the menu - tripe with mushrooms - & found it to be tender & absolutely delicious. As we were sipping our after dinner drinks, a street performer began singing traditional French chansons while accompanying herself on the accordion. A great night!View more

Well, if you have extra time to kill, don't mind the cost, & really want to experience the hype, I guess it worth a visit. Make sure you are not hungry before the visit as the wait can be loooong. The restaurant is poorly managed with friendly but chaotic service. The indoor space is crowded, noisy & stuffy, with bathrooms behind the beverage bar. The patio customers were neglected most of the time. During our waiting & dinning times (2.5 hours), there were at least four tables with missed or delayed orders, & the sides (bread & fries), often arrive long after the main was ice cold or finished. It took on average 20 minutes to get the bill & you would be at the mercy of the restaurant wifi to use your card on the POS terminal. Most customers ended up paying inside anyways after failed attempts. The food...is unique. We ordered foie gras nigiri & the renowned duck in a can. If you like peanut butter on rice with customized ponzu soy sauce, the nigiri would not disappoint, but the foie gras might not be necessary. The duck in the can wa definitely a novel idea with complex rich falvours, but unfortunately executed poorly. The duck breast tasted like stone & the thick skin was chewier than gummy bears. I was wondering why a full scale steak knife was provided with the dish, but it all soon made sense when I started cutting. The most delicious ingredients were the sourdough bread crust & the garlic. I wish there were more. Overall, this is for sure a once in a lifetime dinning experience as I do not wish to dine there again. If you have this restaurant on your vacation checklists, it worth a (one) visit. If you are looking for a romantic & enjoyable dinning experience with your partner or family, there are better places around the area.View more

One of the most memorable meals I have ever had. The foie gras terrine was rich & perfect. The sale & maple sugar fries were a treat. Salads are colorful & delicious. The Duck in a Can was special. Vast & diverse wine selection. I enjoyed their Gin de Monocle, which they distill. The restaurant staff felt like a true team with attentive, sociable, generous service. All in an inviting, fun, walkable neighborhood. We will be back! Thank you, Au Pied de Cochon!View more

Wow, I can't say enough good things about this place as I was sceptical prior to going as I'm not really a fan of Duck & Frois Grois but my friends are so I went along anyways & I'm so glad I did. First off this place is extremely popular so a reservation is almost mandatory as it's always pretty busy from what I saw. The restaurant has a nice indoor & outdoor seating area with nice decor & lively atmosphere. The staff here are top notch from the kitchen to the servers they know what they're doing here. The food & drinks were phenomenal to say the least & even with me thinking I was not a fan of Duck & Frois Grois this place changed my mind. Regardless of that they had many other non Duck options on the menu even though I guess Duck is what they specialize in but all the other dishes were fantastic too. I can't remember the names of most dishes but the scallops, Frois Grois Poutine, Clay Pot Stew & this Frois Grois with Maple Syrup dish were some of the favourites. All I will say is that this is definitely a Culinary Experience you need to try at least once in your life so you can decide for yourself as I have definitely become a fan myself & will be returning here eventually when I visit Montreal in the future. Kudos to the entire team there as they are doing a fantastic job & keep up the great work. Oh & by the way the Desserts were exceptional too so make sure you save some room for that 😉View more

I booked the only reservation available, 10PM. The restaurant came recommended by a local & I was a bit wary at first given the numerous email reminders that we would be charged if we didn't show up. I was worried it would be stuffy & formal. I was very wrong. Lively atmosphere, friendly jovial service & really good food. It is known for its "duck in a can" entree which unfortunately I didn't try. But the foie gras profiteroles, bleu cheese salad & "fish & chips" were amazing. Highly recommend. The place was really cool!!!View more

Had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent & the food was fantastic. The duck in a can was really rich so I struggled eating this on my own, but if you're a foie gras person then this would be right up your alley.View more

TDLR: Service great, food mediocre if not slightly below average. Would not recommend or visit again based on personal experience. To start off, service was good. All service staff were extremely nice & helpful. We saw a few chefs & definitely kudos to how hard they worked to keep the kitchen running. However the food fell short of my expectations. We ordered the foie gras nigiri, duck in a can, & salt & maple fries. Food took an *extremely* long time to come out. The foie gras nigiri was the best thing we tried that night, although the flavour balance was mediocre - strong peanut butter & soy sauce taste that overpowered the foie gras. The duck in a can took over an hour to come out. We actually saw the Can packaged & ready but our server had set it so we get the fries & main at the same time. This led to the Can sitting there for a good 20 minutes until I asked if we could get the main first. Hence the food was room temperature. That would have been fine but the amount of duck meat was about a palm size amount & the rest was just skin & fat that we couldn't even cut through with a knife. Flavour was good though. If this was the normal size, I wouldn't recommend it for $60+. The fries we received was over fried the first time, leading to a bitter taste. We asked for a new order of it, & the second time was better although quite a lot of pieces were still burned (like dark brown/black). Although I was disappointed by our visit, I would like to think we just visited on a bad day/time. We had actually wanted to order additional things during our wait time because we were so hungry, but decided against it in case we had to wait another hour. All in all, I don't think I would recommend this place or come back.View more

The wait staff were excellent but the food was nothing special. So disappointing after looking forward to this meal for over a year & visiting from Australia to dine. The best item was by far the foie gras poutine, however it initially came out with no foie gras on it! We had to say something for them to notice. The fish mains had no salt on it & tasted terrible. The duck in a can was okay, but sloppy & overrated. The mussel dish was so oily & could have used some bread to accompany it - however the wait staff did not mention this at the time of ordering. The wait times for food was quite long. The restaurant itself is very loud & crammed. I sadly would not recommend this place, which I am disappointed to say as we were really looking forward to it.View more

This is my 4th time being at PDC. The place is lively & noisy but not unnecessarily, there are lots of people having a good time, but it is noisy. We ordered scallops appetizer ( which was very fresh, & citrusy), foie gras poutine (my kids loved this), & Plonge de Champlain (excellent crispy pancake, with amazing sweet syrup). All were excellent, & the service was very informative & took our kids wishes to heart. We also ordered the duck in a can which tasted good, but the duck breast had a large sinewy piece running through it which made the breast very hard to cut. On my previous visits I have been wowed by the food (beef stew served in a pumpkin, or chicken balls that were the most chickeny thing I have ever had) , & service but this time I wasn't. Hard to tell if it was familiarity with the product or if things have slipped. Still an excellent time.View more

We were 6 people; 4 of which were from out of town. The server was engaging & attentive. Everyone's meals were delicious. We started with the oysters, scallops, & foie gras poutine. Then our mains were Duck in a Can, the lamb dish (one of the specials), pork chop, Quenelle (surprisingly amazing), & lamb shank. Then we had Pudding Chomeur, passion fruit pavlova, & a coffee/maple flan-type dessert. Everything was fantastic from beginning to end. Also notable was their homemade Baileys/Irish cream that was delicious.View more

The food was amazing! We ordered the Duck foie gras poutine, the pork chop, Duck in a Can & Pudding Chomeur for dessert. We couldn't be more impressed with the flavour & the quality of our meal. Our server was fantastic & was very thorough in taking us through the menu. We were sat at a deuce table in front of the service area which was very busy & chaotic. We felt several times that the servers or staff would fall into us but instead ended up bumping into each other to navigate the narrow aisle. There really wasn't enough room for the table & the staff in that area. But we were very glad to have had the experience at this wonderful restaurant & wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.View more

What a fantastic restaurant & experience. I would give it 6 stars if I could! The staff is really friendly, engaging, & courteous. The food is impeccable & the portions generous. The drinks (cocktails) were amazing, & they'll even make you customized cocktails that aren't on the menu. The vibe & atmosphere, a little busy but fabulous. Everything we tried was full of flavour & the highlight was the duck in a can & the creme caramel dessert. Highly recommended this place even if you get a 5pm reservation! Such an amazing meal!! Lovely cocktails mojipfo & matante rhubarb. Every dish an artistic achievement, so many complex flavors, so delicious! We began by dousing our eggs on duck temaki, relishing the bleu cheese salad with crunchy nuts, & the buckwheat pancake in foie gras. Then dove into the legendary canard en conserve & the aged pork chop, finishing with a coffee-cream enhanced flan. The waitstaff were perfect & the ambience super-high-energie!View more

Absolutely LOVED the food! I'm so glad we ordered what we did. The foie gras nigiri melts in your mouth & is such a good appetizer. The duck in a can is frickin delicious! I would recommend getting some extra bread on the side to sop up the sauce (that's what I'd do next time!) I also highly recommend the creme caramel. I don't see a lot of places that pair it with a coffee cream, but it works soooo well. Only thing is that the restaurant can be a bit crowded so service can be kind of slow, but the servers themselves are very helpful & friendly. I am 100% coming back next time I'm in Montreal!View more

What an amazing experience. Barely made it off the plane in time to catch dinner, but we were welcomed with opened arms. Treated to some of the best food we've ever had. Particularly enjoyed the Duck in a Can. So much that our server so generously had the can washed for us to take home, along with some extra labels. We were heartbroken to arrive home to find that we had left the can at on the table, after they had taken the time to clean it for us. Thank you so much Au Pied de Cochon, we will return.View more

This restaurant lives up to the hype of being a culinary institution in Montreal. I got to visit this restaurant during a brief stay in the city, & from the moment I stepped in to the moment I left, the experience was very memorable. I made an reservation for my gf & I to sit at the bar, which in hindsight, was the right call because you get to sit in front of the kitchen & watch the chefs working hard & assembling all the dishes (highly recommend sitting at the bar). The staff, from the server to even the chefs, were very welcoming, accommodating, & stayed on top of our every need from beginning to end, communicating with us in English since we do not speak French, ensuring that our waters were always topped off, giving us plenty of information about every dish & drink we ordered, as well as making good recommendations that worked out for our palette. All the dishes were incredibly tasty, but especially their infamous Duck in a Can, which I now understand why it's such a classic! We had a few libations, all well prepared, & ciders. The desserts were really good too! All in all, I am looking forward to going back one day & cannot recommend this place enough.View more

Had dinner at this place this week, definitely didn't live it up to the hype. The restaurant was overly crowded, everyone is trying to move the table down so they can push themselves into the seat. At the end, whoever sat at the back of the restaurant had no way to even breathe!! & that was what exactly happened to us. When we reflected this to the waiter, she just asked the next table to move down, but clearly there were no space to move!!! Anyway the appetizer was great, we ordered four different one & love all of them. Highly recommended the duck tartare, perfectly done in taste & presentation! That said, the aged pork chop we ordered was very disappointing, it was dry & no favour to it. All in all, I wouldn't come back if they don't rearrange the seating. The food is good but hey it is Montreal, you get good food everywhere!!!View more

DUCK IN A CAN Yes, you heard thay right! Duck in a can. Who knew that'd it'd be so fancy? The Duck is served with butter, sourdough bread & foie gras & it's definitely one of the most delicious things I've ever had! This is a higher end resto only come if ita a special occasion or you have expendable income. Despite what ordered being the duck in a can I found my boyfriend's cassoulet much better because I loooove beans. There is nothing better than beans & meat.View more
