Suave, esoteric, & classy. Me & my review partner both had 2 cocktails each & oysters. We were impressed by the cocktails & my partner very much enjoyed the Mad Whale. Kind & cool staff, awesome place overall, just not necessarily our vibe. (22/27) always love a hidden entrance.

First things first: finding the place is part of the fun. In proper speakeasy fashion, the entrance is tucked away in an alley, hidden just enough to make you feel like you've stumbled upon a secret society dedicated to excellent cocktails. Cute.
Once inside, the décor is delightfully over the top - dramatic, moody, & unapologetically stylish - exactly what you'd expect from the folks at @groupebarroco. It feels theatrical, like stepping onto the set of a very glamorous late-night scene.
The drink menu is well thought out, with a long list of signature cocktails that clearly lean into the flair & creativity of the bar team. The ones we tried were delicious & undeniably flashy with a bit of drama & make the table next to you curious about what you ordered.
In hindsight, we probably should have asked for a classic martini or something equally simple to truly test the bartenders' skills. But alas, we fell right into the trap they so expertly set: intriguing descriptions, clever ingredients, & a menu designed to lure you toward their signatures. & honestly… we're not really mad about it.
Now, about those'Top Bars in Canada' lists. One can't help but wonder how those actually work. Do they send someone to every bar in the country? Is there a secret panel of extremely well-hydrated judges traveling coast to coast? Or do certain places simply become very good at attracting the right kind of attention?
(We may know the answer to that… but that's a conversation for another time.)
For now, we'll say this: Atwater Cocktail Club delivers on atmosphere, creativity, & a sense of occasion. Whether you're chasing one of Canada's most talked-about cocktail bars or just looking for a fun night out behind a hidden door, it's worth stepping into the alley for.

Located in Little Burgundy, this hidden cocktail spot offers a casual yet stylish vibe. The space features mirrored walls, some street-style art, & a well-stocked backbar that fits the energetic mood. Mixed crowd. Plenty of seating: couches, tables, bar stools. Music is good but leans loud-conversation is possible, but not easy during peak hours.

Menu is sleek & functional, organized by flavor profile with ingredients, ABV, & glass type clearly noted-great for navigating. Glassware is solid quality, garnishes are thoughtful, & overall presentation is on point. No coasters. Drinks are impressively balanced.
Special mention: Smoke Show - a fruity cocktail with an Instagram-worthy presentation & solid flavor to back it up.
Service: 8.5/10
Water served on arrival. Team is friendly & attentive. Prices are average for Montreal, but the bar felt lightly understaffed for its size-orders can take a while.
Awesome hidden speakeasy. Perfect place to have a good cocktail. The mixologist was excellent, suggesting many drinks with unique flavor. The food supplied by Foiegwa's kitchen was also delicious.

I love this little hidden (not so hidden) gem at the heart of Atwater. This place scream old school bar ambience with a touch of magic with the originality & beauty of they're drinks plus they all or most, tasted great in my opinion but for the food I was left a bit disappointed a bit for the size of them, so I recommend more going for drinks then anything else, but other then that nothing to say but positive thing 10/10.

Our first night in Montreal we were fortunate to find this hidden gem! The cocktails were original & fresh & surrounded by a cool vibe blending shiny luxe lounge seating, amazing lighting & a dinosaur skull shrine. Behind the bar we enjoyed watching the team create one cool cocktail after another. We will be back!
One of the most unique'speakeasy's' in Montreal! Hidden away down an ally that you'd typically avoid on a dark night, except for the ropes & the huge (but incredibly friendly & professional doorman), you go underground for a really intimate setting, with great music & atmosphere. Relaxed, efficient table service, with an evocative menu of cocktails (& other drinks). The "Smoke Show" is a must, for the visual factor, & is damn tasty! Music was an ace mix of new & old hits, but unfortunately no dance floor. Still a 5* venue though. *TIP* if there is a queue to enter, politely speak to the doorman & let him know your party size; if a space opens for a particular size party, you MAY move ahead of other parties waiting in line.

Beautiful speakeasy in a hidden alley with a very friendly staff & beautiful atmosphere & decor inside. The choice of cocktails is large enough without being infinite, which is very positive. I really loved the federal reserve cocktail (20 cad), & also the smoke show was nice (17 cad). I also tried the cocktail 17 (17 cad) & the 40 thieves (16 cad) all of them interesting & good. Definitely a must go in Montreal.
